There will never be a cull on solitary birds such as Peregrine's, only flock birds face a cull when infection is discovered, that would include our lofts so best to not take chances with ours. RSPB have no say regards culling, they are a charitable organisation set up for the protection of birds. Defra the Government Dept. are the ones that make culling decisions.

I'll get a pic of them as they are now, they are a super looking pair, both cocks, off a Dk. Pied x Red. When they were a few days old, pre. rings, I went one evening to shut lofts and the mother came off the nest and I realised one had fallen out the pan, when I picked it up it was stone cold and appeared dead, I thought I saw pulse so I took it in and held it over the Rayburn until I was sure it was alive, I then held it for over an hour until it looked good enough to put back. The next morning they looked identical and to this day I could not tell which one it was. Just goes to show, don't give in too quickly. I think I learned this lesson from our many years as licensed dog breeders

Good read Walter, made me get my old books out when you mentioned Fechan Lass, I bought a lovely Dk. Pied cock from Louella son of Fechan Producer who was a full brother to Lass, this was 1974 or 75. The hen I bought at the same time was a g/daughter of Grizelda, the only grizzle I've ever bought in, I've lived here 30yrs and not club raced in that time, the 30 birds I brought with me, and decendents, have been on open loft the whole time, they now are 22 birds and 9 of them are grizzles so with the never ending hammering they take from BOP, when one moves on another quickly replaces it, the old Kirkpatricks seem tough birds

Ospreys do come under Birds Of Prey although as you say mainly fish eaters, we did have a clip on here of a carrion crow fighting a hen sparrowhawk off her nest and stealing eggs so corvids do have some use
