  1. No preventative treatment given for about 10 years now. In saying that I would treat if my team went down with something, individual pigeons are removed should they go down with something. I win my fair share.

I would have intentions of giving them every race BUT that wont happen. You'll encounter bad weather, the moult and if your unlucky the birds being ill. You'll find you'll have to bob & weave throughout the young bird program....... like we all have to.
  4. You can suspect bad bacteria is present but not tell, a culture test as far as I'm aware is the only way of finding out for sure. I would suspect bad bacteria if a pigeon show any of the following signs, limping, swollen joints, poor performance, loose droppings, dull in appearance. Again as far as I'm aware bad bacteria is ever present in pigeons and is always probing for a weakness trying to take a foothold somewhere. I'll give you an example. A good few years back I had a team of young birds that were underperforming, something wasn't right so I sent of 3 youngsters to a vet with instructions to find out what the problem was even if it meant culling them and carrying out tests on stomach, organs etc. Cultures were done on blood & organs and the findings were bacteria was present around their hearts! giving the heart a swollen flabby appearance, consequently the pigeons couldn't perform nowhere near their best. In this case the pigeons looked in all respects healthy but it was the poor performance that got the alarm bells ringing.
  5. Summer months early morning training, the air is fresher and winds generally calmer. This time of year when morning temps are hovering around 6-8C I would train afternoons.
  6. If you want to be successful in sprint based racing train as often as the weather allows right through the program. This training/schooling as youngsters will pay dividends too when they're raced as old birds.
  7. Essex & Kent Amal 10:45 out of Wetherby in a W/N/W wind
  8. Sorry I cant help. You could try ringing the RPRA in the morning and ask if they could put you in contact with a fancier in that area.
  9. Maybe someone could design a simple webpage dedicated to repellents and suchlike.
  10. Whereabouts in Essex?
  11. Again, as far as I'm aware the RPRA will release details to a fellow pigeon fancier with a bona fide loft number.
  12. I believe the RPRA went down this route (withholding names & addresses) to stop so called pest controllers contacting fanciers direct and claiming money for the pigeons return. Get the lady to re report it using this link http://www.rpra.org/stray-reporting/ and hopefully the RPRA will contact the owner reminding them of their obligations.

    Race Programs

Is it not so that the clubs are members of a federation and not the members of clubs (members members). How it works under RPRA rules is clubs propose a race program, how a club go about choosing this is there own business. Does this differ to your organisation?
  17. Put the mesh on the front of the dowels, if on the inside the pigeons will cling to the wire mucking up their tail feathers.
