  1. As others have said its only certain meds that you are required to take away the grit and thats generally doxycycline or any of the cylcline drugs as it stops the meds working. Any other meds are fine. My birds get fresh grit daily and have never had an issue but i do remove it if giving doxycycline but thats rare these days as i dont get many issues with respiratory disease these days since changing ventilation on the lofts. Jas
  2. Wilkinsons mate. £4 for a very big piece. we use it to keep away the sparrowhawks, we spread it at high level across the route they take, this stops them attacking the birds by surprise.
  3. What are you feeding them at the moment?
  4. people do it on all different types of auctions, ebay is a prime example of that, I know people who have multiple accounts that bid on there own auctions, they also get other people to bid for them as well. Unfortunately thats one of the downsides to auctions, sometimes you get as bargain other times you dont. Jas.
  5. Agreed, if the eggs are not full the cock is the problem, change him and see what happens. Jas.
  6. i've always used nobivac purely because thats what you tend to get from the vet when i order it.
  7. I think you need to change the statement to the worlds worse customer service, anyone can put a glossy catalogue together with products they dont stock, you really need to look at companies like taylors or murray and mills thats what customer service looks like, you have a very long way to even coming close to those guys, Im still waiting for my refund from a years ago for a book i ordered on next day delivery which took 5 days to arrive when i ordered it over the phone and you told me it was in stock. jas
  8. I had a similar issue with them. i phoned them up to order a book, was told yes we have plenty in stock, they took my card details and i paid for next day delivery, 5 days later still no book, i was on the phone screaming at them to be told sorry theres nothing we can do, they didnt even give me my next day delivery charge back. that was the 4th time in a row i had delivery issues with them and that was the last time i ever dealt with them. the best thing they can do for the fancy is go under which hopefully thats the way they are going. as others have said use murray and mills or taylors far better service.
  9. got 15 youngsters in the pan and another possible 48 ready to hatch. all going extremely well so far, but i know i shouldn't say that as things normally go pear shaped when i say things like that. Jas.
  10. I suppose they have to get it right once, they cant cock up everyones orders like they do, lol, Jas.
  11. Well done guys for sortiing out your differences, not sure what it was all about but as said strapper is a good guy, very knowledgeable and an asset to the site, good luck for the coming season to all. Jas.
  12. trust me mate after having 2 children under 3 i wouldnt recommended it to anyone, i love them to bits but no more for me,lol my word dont they keep you on your toes. i will stick with the calf colostrum the misses can keep the breast milk, lol jas.
  13. 1st day calf colostrum for me, have used baby food before but see more benefit from the colostrum as it contains antibodies that baby food doesnt. When you look at the benefit differences between breast milk and bottle milk, breast fed baby are more resistant to illness than babies fed by a bottle, i have seen this first hand my first daughter was breast fed, never had any issues at all when a baby, the second one wasnt breast fed but feed with bootled milk and suffered with all the usual baby allergies like hexma, lots of colds etc. thats why i choose the colostrum, Im gonna experiment when the widowhood birds youngster hatch, half will be fed colostrum and the other half baby milk on the corn just to see if my theory is right. I will let you know how i get on. jas

  15. Hi mate. the antibiotics are given to fight off the secondary infection like ecoli which would have taken hold when the birds were that ill. Its standard thing to do when birds are that ill, its gives the bird a chance to recover not only from the worm infection but from the secondary infection. Antibiotics have no use against the worms, which have already been dealt with. Jas.
  16. Its very common, it could be anything from the egg got cold whilst bird wasnt sitting, this normally happens when the hen lays her first egg, she doesnt start sitting untill the second is laid and if its very cold then it can kill the egg. it could also be that the egg wasnt fertilised by the cock, or could have died from disease. Jas.
  17. i couldnt have put it better, just a complete waste of time, it tells you nothin.
  18. No the rule states that the pad must be in the confines of the loft of trap, not under a landing board, theres no rule to even say bob wires have to be used and theres no rule that says that the birds once clocked must be confined to the loft as some people think. the trap can consist of a sputnik, a supertrap or any type of trap that the bird has to go through as long as that pad isnt under the landing board outside the trap theres nothing wrong, you can have the pad on the floor of a sputnik, even though the sputnik is outside the loft its still within the confines of the trap. The problem that the rpra have done is not set things out the rule with photos of what traps are acceptable, we all read things differently and one persons understanding will be different to another, in a court of law the rpra wouldnt stand a chance based upon the information they give us as fanciers regarding the ets rule.

  22. you should listen to strapper mate, get the birds to a vet. all you are doing is potentially making things worse. as strapper said birds with canker, cocci or worms dont die over night and with all due respect to the person who looked at your birds you cant tell if they have cocci canker or worm without the use of a microscope, i to have been in the sport for what will be 30 years this year and pigeon health has been a real interest for the last 5 years, i have studied it in depth and can tell you that no matter what experience you have the only thing that can confirm cocci, canker of worms is the microscope, no amount of looking at the birds or handling them can diagnose anything. blind treating them will only make things worse, its sounds like the birds are really ill and giving them treatment that isnt potentially going to cure them will only make them feel worse. i am yet to see an adult bird die from cocci and you would have to have a really bad infestation of worms or canker to cause death, Its sound very much like either a bacterial or viral infection but the only way to find out is get them to a vet and get them check out before its to late. Jas.
