  1. Gregarious! A nice word used by Vic on another thread in regards pigeon behavior. Very true too Vic; it is the very fundamental of the pigeon. Hence whilst I believe that 'Over Crowding' is a myth. Why do they then fly of the top or such and even have bad returns. Too much inbreeding is a factor I believe. Nature takes a hand as incest is a no go area in nature, and likewise in humans. It has a very detrimental effect. The biggest problem is that most that do incest breeding don't understand the fundamental reason. Do they really believe that the young bred will be the same or on par even! Can't overfill a cup, it spills out. Likewise you can't make it a better bird by putting something in there that doesn't exist by just adding the same. Most don't realise that incest is just to hold the BLOOD lines, nothing more, and then it is the out cross that mixes and 'Flies! This is why Mother Nature takes a hand… and hence why some breed a 100 or so to counteract their losses.
  2. No it doesn't surprise me in the least! They want to be first at the trough, 2nd last and again if any left!
  3. Se well and eloquently put. Yes many will leave. And the cost for starting up will deter mny from stating. Especially when the Missis asks which comes first. Morgage, Kids, etc. etc. or just to see flipping birds fly. But you now what the real thing that surprises me? The selfisness of those that are / have pushed for it, and they vey ones that spout only about trying to keep a sensible and steady influx of new members AND spouters of rying, and Oh how can we encourage new members etc. And HOW CAN will STOP LOSING so many yea year! What can we do to keep members.... and then selfishly spout in silence 'As long as it doesn't affect me and any one upmanship I may have or gain!
  4. Pigeon racing is rampent with inequities. As several ex Flyers called it, rough justice. Best hope is that they all balance out. One thing for sure, the flood of used manual clocks to hit the market will be a boon to the juniors and other beginers.
  5. No Tammy. Was a great ancier, and other since tat taught me that. If racing te hens w/h then leave them with them a few days more. I think 16 das id prime.... Have left them also till they move themselves on. But is realy a waste of time and a drag on the parents.
  6. Well that's me own personal beliefs on ET's... Not on the deeds of the misfits that contrived, fibbed and what not to get the ET accepted Aand why!!! To get a little more lee - way, a little more undeserved advantage over those that can't afford or due to Loft position CAN'T have, or be able to have it guanranteed to work come Saturday morning. Fortunately the TRUE racing as I see it for me is the Distance races so tha won't overly afect me. Not like the ones that have their birds arrive at the same time, or just before the ET clocker only to be robed by the affluent one with a ET clock! But then that is why you and others want it. And all the red herrings in the world won't alter that a jot!
  7. Would love to know why Poultry Keeping is now thought of as a sport. I see also that next years world alom etc, indeed all winter sports are going to be held on Grass, as those that live in the Likes of Sweden, Austria etc. have an unfair advantadge on snow. Just realise apparently why the Brits aren't so good at it... But will now undoubtedly bwe able to nip over the mud flaps with the best of them. Must say it's about time too, been very discriminate that! But due to climate changes it would appear that even those countries with strife better as the snow there in 30 yeas time will be unheard of... and about time too, mostly and grossly unfair that!
  8. I do... have Alberta to go to yet. Sons took Ex Wife to Winnipeg 3 years back now. Missuaga / Toronto / Montreal / Quebec, and most of Ontario. but Quebec! Well they certainly didn't make me welcome there, indeed the fact was that they went out of their way to let you know that they were French and the Brits aren't welcome. But everyone to their own.
  9. England M8. Have spent some time in Canada. Gave a talk at the last but one C.U. Convention ... work stopped me getting there this October just gone. I am booked for this year 'Pickle Lake' prize giving. Me and Bill Butterfield, originally from 'Monkey Hanging' country bumkins till he was 16. (HARTLEPOOL when they thought it was a Frenchmen / French spy SO THEY HUNG IT!) He moved to Toronto, but he's father was a top notch flyer though blind. He still handled and chose the breeders, and which went to race that week - end, and Like Jed Jackson and few others clocked them in himself. My first wife was from Winnipeg Manatoba, so the two eldst sons are half Canadian. I was the instigator of your 'Pickle Lake' with Mike Van Der Jagt. And with Roland Zacherios races from Winnipeg I themed the Canadian Distance Day'. Hopefully will get 1000 miles on day one day .... Canada has the best chance of any for doing that I guess. I'm coming over in October again.
  10. I see in this years London Marathon, that ALL runners are to have someone to hold onto and help them around the 26 mile course, just to be on parr with the discrimination of us [u]'Poultry Keepers'
  11. Feathered friends team up with Disney for fundraiser By: Jillian Austin - Brandon Sun online Look into the sky on Sunday morning and you just might see valiant pigeons racing through the clouds. Pigeons will be flying from the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border to Brandon for a local fundraiser that coincides with the opening of the new Walt Disney film, Valiant — a movie about a brave but undersized pigeon who serves with the British royal fleet in the Second World War. Craig Emery, a local pigeon trainer, said that like Valiant, his own birds also have to be brave to make it back to their First Street home. “There is an element of danger,” Emery said. “There are sometimes fellows out shooting, hawks and barbed wire that they have to avoid.” But he has no doubt his pigeons will return from their adventure. “They’re all good athletes,” he said with a chuckle. “The homing instinct comes pretty natural to pigeons.” The fundraiser will benefit Westman Dreams for Kids and the Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner, which will mark its 20th year in Brandon this Christmas. The charity event has grown from a small church to the Keystone Centre in its 20 years, serving thousands of people dinner at Christmas time. Bob Pilchar, manager of the Capitol Theatre, had the fundraising idea for the pigeon race in the back of his mind for quite some time, as he also raises pigeons. When the movie came out he thought it would be the perfect time to do it, and partnered up with Gladden Smith of the Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner. “It’s very important for both organizations to meet their goals,” said Smith. “Without money being raised we wouldn’t be able to keep them going.” He said there are a few other fundraisers planned in the coming months to make sure there will be enough money for the dinner this year. Smith said the response from the people of Brandon is overwhelming whenever he has a fundraiser in motion. “The businesses and people in Brandon are just awesome,” Smith said. “People have just jumped on board and supported us 110 per cent.” “Brandon is a very giving town,” said Pilchar. “It rallies behind itself and looks after its own pretty well.” He said it is very important to give back to the community through time, money and efforts. “We’re quite happy with the response,” Pilchar said. There are approximately 40 birds being sponsored at $100 each. The pigeons, trained by Emery, will start their journey at 7 a.m. Sunday. Emery expects most will return home after three to five hours and said the birds will average 60 miles per hour. Businesses who sponsor a pigeon get to name it. The Brandon Sun will cheer for its feathered friend, Sunshine. The business with the winning pigeon gets a free private showing of Valiant at the Capitol Theatre for all employees. This of course doesn't apply to the UK, but the film will be here no doubt soon.
  12. As the govement and DAFRA etc. constantly refuse recognise our fancy as a 'Sport' but CLASSFIED usas Poultry keeper, how can we be discriminate to other Poultry keepers? It's a joke, As niel Diamond sang, Money Talks, and the Affluent ones in our so called Poultry keeping were determine to gain any and every ounce for the own betterment. Nothing more and certainly nothing less.
  13. What's all the crap once again about a ‘Name’! Pen name or what ever eh! It is what the 'names' says that counts. If you haven't the balls to state your case because you are 'FRIGHTENED' that the Pen Name may be a well known name, or good flyer, then don't post. If he / she puts across a good point that you can't answer, or feel that in retrospect your point wasn't valid, don't use the silly ole crap scenario of 'Hiding' behind a name, or imply that they’ are frightened to say who they are etc. or make out there must be something to hide, GET over it, 99% of the names I see I don't know, or have ever heard of, so what! Many with the their name showing spout more crap than most and as they use the real name, imply that in that case hey must be right, and above inspection. If you don't like the post, regardless whether you know the name or not, even if it's a pen name, then don't reply or post! But because your nose is put out, give over and grow up, because it would have been put out regardless of the Name that posted it!
  14. Nice deal the Irish game... new Stadium for Rugby, new hands and the English Anthem played... so I suppose the cost was to let the pady's have their day.... just wish it wasn't so blumming painful lol. Seriously well done Ireland you were awesome. And we paid for your silly nap against the French bigtime ... but bot the price of the tripe crown etc. you paid. Been knocking at the 'Great' stage for so long too ...
  15. Well the Majority in the Club says ET's so what! We won't sanction any funds to buy anything that relatess / or is needed in regards ET's. Club will also have a say whether they will allow ET's to be used... Or more simply if all those against ET's form another club and have it as a rule that it will be a Manual Clocking club only.... One has to ponder on I guess.
  16. Vey avf vay of making kim dem VALK faster lol.
  17. Agree Me, and fine.
  18. And what has this to do with Goverment!!!! We aren't even recognised as a sport!!! we are POULTRY keepers full stop. Mind what about that poor swimmer that has now become alergic to water eh! Can't stop his disability, so they moved to Hartlepool hope to use Baths / swimming pools with out water. Now that is fine, as long as no one makes a splash I suppos!
  19. Lol be far better if the pair of you actually read what I said / stated. It was obvious to any one witha 20p worth of common what the jest was. Unlike the flood gate it's open for others. 'Great this equality rights in sports. I hear Gordon Strachen has to fantastic wingers to play for Celtic – in wheel chairs! To level it up the Turbo charge wheel chairs will do 0 – 30 mph in 2.2 seconds. They also have spring loaded rods. They will also have spring loaded 7 .9 high rods with round heads on the end for headed purposes. They have arranged for ALL Scottish grounds to be TARMAC so they aren’t impeded in any way. Was going – well tried in fact for the Goal area to be a sand pit… but as this may clutter up they mechanics this has been overruled. All Goal pos must be rubber in case the chairs bump into them. Oh just realised that Pigeon racing isn’t a sport it is a POULTY concern still under DAFRA, and as such must Employ a certain % of invalids…'
  20. Well he will certainly have more that your two pence worth and that's a fact! Or are you so gullible and dimwitted to say that NO one has a right of reply! Or a right to consult a LEGAL service as to wether a ruling is Law abiding. Are you so far up up own Back side to see anything other that the Brown stuff you squeak! Most will remember Dave Allen taking the RPRA to court and winning ... but that would be above your head. Indeed even beyond any scenario for you.
  21. Now must have words with a solictor as to the actual law in regards that 'Disability law .... Crap I think, but am not perturbs so won't bother. They just knew it wouldn't be voted in, so went in the back door. And lets one have half a season then y/b's to let the Dust settle, yes possibly the best way to get it in. Suppose Clubs will have to vote individually about any handicaps etc. But there won't be any leeway I'd wager, indeed a hot protest about their' right if put up for the next AGM. Any decent and honest flyer with ET would say Agree, knock me 15 seconds off.... If I was o get a pint for every one that will be agreeable to that, I'd wager I won't get nissed as a pewt on them lol.
  22. Have also - again have to agree that the quote below is about as fact as it gets Perhaps the two main reasons hat get up the majority nose are A. The fibbing as to why they are Pro ET and B. Costs in as much yet again those that can afford will benefit yet again and steal a march. Solar Clocking on ET could have come at a fraction of cost ... obviously no money there so, and rightfully, those putting an investment in aren't interested in the small returns. Further now that Micro chipping is nigh available, where your bird will be tracked by you or anyone wit the pass key. So won't it soon be time for the Arguments that 'Should Club / Fed / National or individual clock in. Which will be here as soon as the ET has been squeezed dry money wise I suppose. Like the Video, Was Philips, then 2000, Then Beta, then VHS and the actual reality was the best went first. Now VCD and DVD do the same for less. BUT that is with a colossal market. Sports, hobbies are limited. So for now, those that want them for training purposes get them! Be an investment as just a bit further down the line it will be able to be used race wise. But I wonder if we will have three or more different names allowed, or the back – hander’s mean just 2 ... or even one. Now in this regard I believe that the more competition the better price wise.... But you know what, I doubt very much that that will happen.
  23. Well Ronnie do you mean that having a good and sucessful loft means that you automatically get / have / or it becomes a loft full of god eyesigns? There is obviously much that a eye can't tell you, and of course much that it will ... but as the 'Eye to the Soul' this often flounders too, bird may have an alet bright eye etc. but bill ailing somewhere, or will be very quickly. The 'Big Un' Bob says that the Millenium Star and the 'Village Lad' had very similiar eys sign. Which is interesting as Most have different eyes tat are champions .... But eye Eye sign theory has any foundation, surely there must be common denominators on board. JMO
  24. And as for the Rules... well it is obvious that the RPRA will indeed set them out, and have a stack of info available from the USA / Canada, etc. etc. where they are widely used for instance. Even Belgium, though they Have to be there to manually clock in withing 5 minutes, but LIKE US here already, can use them for training purposes. Yes that must be a good reason why one would want to purchase a ET. But as they can already it is hardly a ponter why it should be legal to use one in racing terms. Golly just how did they ever manage to fly birds years a go amazes me.
  25. Because they also want their cake and eat it Bob I'm afraid. They could have had ET's up and running 7 years ago if they had agreed to the results / findings that the RPRA PAID the Spanish independent company for a fair assessment and good / bad points. Paul Smith and Co with his vested in Nikon etc. couldn't get the pro ET's brigade to even consider it! Same as now, they won't say why they won't accept it... other to spill garbage that 'IF I can then so can others'! They know this is so, and neither care. They also know that ET will be here - Company's will make money so it will be here. REGARDLESS to the cost of members leaving - this may be for several reasons, not least They can't afford, they are on sticky ground on allotments and such, AND THEY feel the more Affluent have enough advantage now, let alone then! Won't be any manual clockers' losing by the fraction of a yard ... ET’s WILL obviously wipe the board with them. Another and more prevalent reason why they won't entertain a 17 sec handicap, it throws in the very face one of the things they hope to achieve.
