  1. Had a new boiler. I asked the fitter if it would be practical to put in the old one in the pigeon loft lol. He said 'What ever … to store would cost nowt, to fit up a fortune lol Any way I asked if he want it it… to take away. 'Not really' said he. I said no problem, will leave outside on the wall and it will be gone in no time. Which we did. He went back out to his vas 15 minutes later. Came back and said he couldn't believe it … but it had gone. every thing here goes. I put a large flat screen out placed against a wall. A lady knocked about 10 minutes later and asked if it worked. felt LIKE saying of course. But in the way now I've got a new one... but told the truth... has vertical lines.. But have another for that part but the engineer says be better to buy another one as the bother changing it would cost … unless I knew some one etc. says she' Oh ok, thanks for telling me... it is a lot better than my old one. Any 20 minutes later it was gone. So I put out the other … it went before I closed the door lol. Only thought was 'I hope that they don't bring them back lol. Often see 'Free to any one' on stuff. Soon goes.
  2. How's this for a pointer regards the little lady. She ran the first 1500m in 4.01.83, which is faster than her own British indoor record of 4:02.39. Should stand I say as the new British record! Also it is why I believe that with a class act or two to push her further would have broken the world record instead of being 3rd fasted …. mind that scenario could also mean IF she won. Could work against her and have one or two beat her …
  3. Agreed … and she is a winner. Following in a few other Scottish sports person of great tenacity. Sadly the working as a team has often let them down. The great Jock Stein formed a great Celtic side of Scots in a very close proximately. He famously said. Had to, they can only understand each other then' lol. What an Era that was eh! Shortly after, the Scottish footballing sides of 1978 and 1982 were as good as, if not better than any side in the 'World cup'. Indeed were reckoned as the side to beat! The manager then the great Ally McLeod was the manager who told all and sundry that Scotland were going to Argentina to win the World Cup. His magnificent optimism was sadly misplaced though and his team returned home with nothing but egg on their faces. If was so confident that he never bothered to see or take note of the other teams, to his great shame. "You can mark down 25 June 1978 as the day Scottish football conquers the world." So said Scotland manager Ally MacLeod as his team set out for the World Cup finals in Argentina. I would say, until recent times that nigh all great sides in the 70's up to the Premier league at least had a dynamo of a scot in the midfield.
  4. Shame if you did, but that girl Laura Muir showed again the true tenacity of a true a Scot! Demolished a decent field yesterday. Shame there wasn't a force to push her, for Laura wouldn't have just run the 3rd fasted Indoor mile of all time, but odds were that she would have broken another record... The 'World indoor' record I feel. Soon out on her, pace makers faded, Laura started to leave the field standing, winning by over 11 seconds. Yes it needed some one to challenge her and stay with her … But with two laps still to go, the strain, effort started to show and hurt. With her you certainly get what you see. Roll on the Glasgow games.
  5. I see Scotland won't lose at Rugby this week -end!
  6. Environment weather forecasters warned of bad weather and heavy winds etc. They issued a travel warning due to forecasted snowfall and bad road conditions in our area. They suggest that anyone travelling in the current icy conditions should ensure they have the following with them: Shovel Blankets or sleeping bag... Extra clothing including hat and gloves... 24 hours worth of food ...De-Icer ... Rock Salt ... Flashlight with spare batteries ... Road Flares or Reflective Triangles ... Full gas Can ... First Aid Kit .... Booster cables .... I looked like a fricking idiot on the bus this morning.
  7. Could be a good year for Laura. Starting with the Indoor Championship and ending with the World Games. Let's hope so … You know I will be hollering and screaming at the tele … if I don't get tickets.
  8. You would … your Scottish no doubt lol
  9. Don't you just love Lauren Muir. Becoming world class before our very eyes. Great show of controlled strength again in the 3000m last Saturday. Running well within herself. Another club mate Jemma Reekie looks more than ok too.
  10. To many it was the bribe of birds offered. A sorry fact.
  11. When I used to write in the BHW I just told things exactly how they was. REGARDLESS friend or favour. Had many good emails back to me... and a couple wanting to punch my head in … Still that pleased me as I had hit upon a truth that hurt lol.
  12. Time to take it easy. Been there 3- 4 times. Last one was day I got married. You will feel 'Up to It' when little chores to be done niggle you... don't! If in doubt leave it out Andy... when doubt is truly gone, then a little only mate. Best wishes.

    Why?

I am a great believer in the Half a house brick. Also I left one later - when on eggs - aside of the nest box etc. Seems a very easy and simple way of peace and contentment.

You know, though not practical, the law regarding pigeons in an area that is satisfactory regards health and needs is Length x width x height. so 8 x 6 x 7 = 330. They'd have to be in wire cages lol. But seriously how many rooks / pigeons can the top of a tree take to be healthy? Air is free too. Many say if you have say 60 perches than 40 birds would be enough. Gosh I had 20 pairs nesting in a 6 x 5 and all healthy and in great condition. Never yet seen pigeons nest far from one another, and they return every day. Indeed never seen them move on … only the youngsters! But then that is natures way of stopping incest and to close breeding which is hammering the very basic of the pigeons elements that make it what we admire and want. Now that in it's self is the main reason for the vast losses... The homing ability is shot to pieces. Yes incest for the blood... Out cross for the vigour. 90% haven't the foggiest, that for sure and proven. they read about father screwing daughters etc. Then think I must have some of that for my birds! Then they buy some pigeons at the highest prices that they can afford and breed culls. Then mate culls to culls because that paid good money for them... gesese they wonder why Culls are sent each week as fodder to bolster the coffers for better bred and wiser fanciers that fed them the garbage. Every so often they get a card and say … I'm unlucky .. but wait and see. I will come good... Next season they do the same again. After proven results dictate that it's pie in the sky and DOESN'T work … Arrr, but I try it again this season... it must come good because I paid 200 quiddies for them … probably bought from an unscrupulous 'name' sell youngsters whose parents are culls and probably never beat much in their own loft … well a few other culls.

I suppose that's the trouble with one loft races to many birds'... YUK There we go again! The non-sensible ruse that that has no bearing whatsoever. A fallacy and 'Lame crutch'! More or less spouted when a ' there is no reasoning of why! Now overused with glib tongue because it is easy and 'ONE' has heard it so often it must be true. The real myth is how it ever took hold, let alone believed. Pigeon LOVE company. They are gregarious, and it is why to thrive on it. Also, the need for a pecking order that keeps it naturally fit and in good condition. Gregarious mean (of animals) living in flocks or loosely organised communities. "gregarious species forage in flocks from colonies or roosts.' It is sociable · social · company-loving · companionable · convivial · clubbable · outgoing · friendly · affable · amiable · genial · congenial · cordial · hospitable · neighbourly ·
  16. Think, a few years back now Louella 'All Fair' auctions showed the way. Time others and their 'Ghost Bidders' done the same. At Louella auctions, if the bid hasn't been higher in the room than a Phone / price made before hand THEN the name of the winner / bid is announced!
  17. You know for many years y/b's off certain pigeons fetched £25,000 or more. Eggs over £10.000. Very many never even won a car …. them eggs never won oat. Just DNA tested. 500 Miles on the day! that is absolutely nothing! Indeed if a so - called middle distance pigeon couldn't do that, then it doesn't deserve a perch... Good thing is it doesn't get a nest box. Not saying in V/G Velocities, that is down to the management … like preparing the 500 miles is! One thing for sure, regardless of the distance one want to fly ALL GREAT strains are from proven hard day and distance birds! By the way China has the land to try and test the distance. They have remarkable records in that regards. 1000 Miles here is around the most some have flown with success. O.K it means at the later stages the birds crossing water. there it doesn't.

Thanks ovy1255 you are right. Sorry if I misrepresented it. the 'F' in the RPRA is appropriate many here about would deem lol
  19. Thank you. Same to you Fifer and all yours. And all members. Let's hope you all have a good two seasons. No losses! … gosh, talk about being over crowded lol
  20. Might be... but that in it's self is not to be sneezed. I think though it is more 2 and a half percent- to 10% 15%
  21. I think you have misread a little there Georgie Part of the proceeds is donated to charities.

Careful now. As the RFPRA said before last years show at Blackpool. The rings sold there will not be accepted etc. Probably won't work.... but in any case not acceptable... so you've wasted your money hee hee. Things might have changed. Money talks and patterns are enforced so...
  24. Any more on that Mambo?
  25. And me regards most places. Saw a cinema over the road from me taken down... they filled our alcoves with nests... But a factory blown up saw 000's take of and head out … only to arrive back later. Now they looked like they were racing lol. But one thing for sure DJWa is that many 'Late bred' are being tossed for a certainty. Along in many case with Widow hens etc. Testing. A bit unfair too I believe as y/b's tossed with old birds beat them home easily. Which make me smile when fanciers say 'I always send a few old one to help them home'.... LOL. Don't they see the youngsters arrive before the old ones! Now I expect some will disagree....
