Goshawk I have a very good, and A full life. I know a couple in our club that also had both... they have both moved over to the BOP. So you may or may not be as you say. My verdict is out! Personally I have a open mind.... 60% to 40% tells me, that you have more interest in BOP than rollers. Also I suggest you don't be insulting me as to get a life. I spout what I believe. Right or wrong. You could / should have just spouted the same.
-
He won't answer that... have a sneaky suspicion that with a name like that he just want to test and make his BOP happy.

Welcome. Every single word is truth regards the distances and time span they did in it. Would have only kept the one though if I hadn't lost them the following season. That would have been the hen that won the Scottish averages 2 -3 times on her own (two different clubs, and no duplications). Her daughters :-/ Well actually do have one in tow, an 02 bird and she looks well, so will posibly put up out onto the rd for a couple of longer races... But no! Needed a new influx etc.
-
If you get a rifle, use a ferret - tied up of course - as bait. They will hove over and swoop, land close and attack it even. Always plenty of chances of a good clear shot.

Good post for him Dave.

Very true. Lost a Thurso Card taking hen this season ... 18 miles, was on youngsters too :-/ But to be fair, I'd rather lose them earlier than later. Costs a lot of time and effort to keep culls, indeed as much as a good pigeon! But I fear it is part and partial of honing a good family that you can sit square with. I know for the next two / three years I shall only be doing just that! May have a touch here and there, who knows, but one swallow doesn't make a summer. Down to 14 yearlings and old birds now, and haven't got them to their first race ever yet :-/ But they are walking the walk, if they fall off the plank, .... well saves food bill. I have some stock birds of have high hopes off. And bought the odd youngster in ... best when the wallet alllowed lol. So hopefully will have a few expierenced yearling next season. But I am now in the stage of re - learning and remembering when, and what it was like when I first started off. Twice in fact! How quickly a decent family you know well allows useful habbits to slip aside eh!

Read some like this.... may cheer you up a mite... Perspective One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?' 'It was great, Dad.' 'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked. 'Oh yeah,' said the son. 'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father. The son answered: 'I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the20stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them. The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.' Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! Pass this on to family, friends and acquaintances and help them refresh their perspective and appreciation.. 'Life is too short and friends are too few Funniest Banking Joke! We all need a few laughs in this time of financial turmoil. I was at my bank today; there was a short line; just one lady in front of me, an Asian lady who was trying to exchange yen for dollars. It was obvious she was a little irritated. She asked the teller, 'Why it change? Yesterday, I get two hunat dolla fo yen. Today I only get hunat eighty? Why it change?' The teller shrugged his shoulders and said, 'Fluctuations.' The Asian lady says, 'Fluc you white people too!' He said to me . . . I don't know why you wear a bra; you've got nothing to put in it. I said to him . . . You wear pants don't you? He said to me ... Shall we try swapping positions tonight? She said, That's a good idea - you stand by the ironing board while I sit on the sofa and fart! He said to me. ... What have you been doing with all the grocery money I gave you? I said to him . .....Turn sideways and look in the mirror! He said to me. ..... Why don't women blink during foreplay? I said to him .. . They don't have time He said to me. . How many men does it take to change a roll of toilet paper? I said to him .. . We don't know; it has never happened. He said to me . .. . Why are married women heavier than single women? I said to him . . . Single women come home, see what's in the fridge and go to bed. Married women come home, see what's in bed and go to the fridge. SEND THIS TO A SMART WOMAN WHO NEEDS A LAUGH AND TO THE GUYS YOU THINK CAN HANDLE IT!

No cards, but they also did a Frazerborough and another Bergerac. All within 6 -7 weeks. Always made my birds do at least 2 of the longest N. Roaders. But would say that the art now is defining and learning - in time with patience, losses and heart ache - just waht your birds capabilities are. Then the need need to trial them is well gone by :-/ Only send FRESH birds to win.
-
Whether you have a couple not is irrelevant. Agree with Swilcox in regards sending them.... some stay at home, and first difficult race are lost.... That one that always seems to be there, the one you some reason never care for keeps racing... Then one day one wakes up and sees - Suprise suprise - it is one of their best! :-/ Could it be that it was sent regardless. Your best birds are the ones A. Sent, and B. still in your loft... Simple that :-/ I believe too many whims / likes and dislikes means too much corn is wasted by birds sitting on the perch / roof etc. because they are liked for whatever reason. Be prepared to lose some, only way forward, and yes like Swilcox says, to compete in worthwhile races, acheiving decent merit means quite simply send your best!
-
Well the North Rd is generally harder than the South Rd. However any decent pigeons does it obviously. I send mine either way. One week may be Bergerac, a fortnight Later Thurso etc. etc. Doesn't affect them at all. I train where ever I may be going.... or any one else ;) and have no problems. But again it is a learning curve for you. YOU have to get to know the birds and their capabilities.
-
Why? :-/ Could it be a case of 'He who dares...'. Agreed takes a little time to formulate a family with the right charaistics, constitution and ability. First step would be surely to get back to basics and forget Inbreeding I'd say.

Tapeworms :-/ I thought Pigs had them :-/ :-/ Flying pigs now are we lol ;D ;D ;D

About time fanciers lived upto the reality of pigeons capabilities and stopped molley cuddling them! Yearlings fly the 1000 miles plus. Y//bs have and do fly the 500 miles plus. Strangely, it is the 'Voters that would never send, that propose and second and vote out these races / Trials :-/ :-/ Simple really is If you don't want to, wouldn't, then tey should have butted out and let those that wanted to to do so! Gosh birds bred in September / October may well be best left to do a couple of tosses and then just a race or two of 100miles or so... But I have won the Scottish averages with such birds on their own Next season, way less than a yearling in reality. fanciers have just train y/b's a couple of times, and furst race has been 650 mile or more to Pau etc. and had great results! But one has to have a tried and tested loft set up with birds honed to do as such. I am on a new learning curve, having forgot a few home truths. The most important, which also applies here - which I'd took liberties with - is Know your birds.

Thought he'd s**t himself.... but was only a wet fart lol. ;D ;D
-
Absolutely brill.... look and.... :-/ Well in reality everything one would expect from Chrissy, they do you proud.
-
Asha, think in reality if one has cause to complain, can't get a immediate response, answer, or feel agrieved in any way shape of form, then I think that they should use them two words lol ;D ;D
-
Ditto. And am already worried for next season with the strength of their squad and the youngsters ready to come through and shine.
-
Yeah hear tale he was well 'Hung' lol ;D Just put a defamatory post up and he'll be up and about in a jiffy lol ;D ;D
-
Can't, I had the Cock year in 1947 Lol.... ;) ;D ;D ;D Well an elastic band.... Went to the doctors once and asked him 'Missis keeps having kids, what causes it' :-/ He said 'Pay the Milkmen' ;D ;D

Yep, as long as the rain if any isn't too heavy and they have to swim for it.... Me :-/ I like my birds to have every chance of being on their perches come night fall regardless of who wins, and who just wants to race. So if they are up, and great losses occur, gosh then the Race controller will be in for some crude calling I guess. Send birds knowing that Stuff can hit the fans, but for me personally, and foremost it is them having the chance of getting them home.
-
And so ended another thread.... :-/ Any way the Race controller is the first in line for the fanciers excuse. Nothing more, nothing less ... One they are able to actually vent the disappointment at in losing birds. In the main these Race Controllers are also Pigeon fanciers, and want the best for their birds same as any and everyone else. They spend time effort and money, get up real early and phone up and down the line of flight, and or any flight it may be. Then often have to sit for hours aside a phone for any updates, and pass on the info to All concerned. Then cause Jack Splott has about as much realism as a chocolate tea pot, and relies on a 'Whim and Prayer' believe as every one else sent it must be ok, the race controller has choice word uttered at him, which are in the main incorrect and out of order. Be far better to discover how and why pigeons home for starters I guess :-/ Certainly not because of a bad race does one automatically spout that the 'Race controller should and even DID know better. These very same ones are the very ones that often had spouted that they aren’t capable, don't know enough, and haven't the time etc. and had far far better things to do on a Saturday morning brigade- and turn down the chance to do it. Indeed they often spout what a great and marvellous Race Controller *expletive removed* would make when trying to persuade *expletive removed* to take the job on The turn like jackals upon the '*expletive removed*' first time a bad race comes up. I say 'Shame on you, and shame on them' that spout at him. And no I, nor we in the main want to hear sorry sordid details of what happen Once upon a time Leave that to Jack Anorry! JMO and those of realistic abd fair minded sportsmen.
-
Near lol... But after esperation and growling they will stomp out of the room and sulk. I WAS WRONG! They can't answer that one mucker lol :-/ :o Then the one when caught with your Pants down! Well what do you expect :-/ I'm only a man lol ;D ;D ;D Now that really peeves them off.... especially after them spout such like to all and sundry for so long lol

Well we'll number them as such for any comments. 1. Birds are not fed properly. 2. Birds are over trained. 3. Birds are not medicated properly. 4. Birds are not educated. 5. Birds are overcrowded in flying loft. Here are my thoughts and views for what they are worth. 1. If you mean for the task in hand I'd agree somewhat.... though one must remember that Birds throughout the 30's onwards to the ( Feeding tok hold in the 90's really) 90's flew the distances and hard races, and many in comparison with far better velocities than today! 2. Yes definately, was a benefit that in yesteryear one wasn't able to afford, so that was better for the pigeons I guess :-/ 3. Disagree, over medicated today, and certainly in two respects A. Willy Nilly because they hear so and so, and such and such ... and reality know not what harm they do. And B. Is harming the birds natural constitution. 4. Codswallop. How can any one teach any creature any thing.... especially when no one has in reality the first notion as to how pigeons home. Theories and conjecture at best. Have here over 240 pages of tests and educating pigeons... All the tests etc. over the lat 69 years.... only one conclusion.... Still know nowt, and haven't a clue. 5. Well the bad managerment lame crutch. Absolute coswallap. Is against the very nature, and what makes pigeon thrive, and eager to get home. Indeed is a natural inbuilt 'Jealousy Motivation'. But then again we have exhausted that lame duck I guess. JMO
