  1. Widowhood is the art of flying the Hens. Widowerhood is for flying the Cock birds. Australia is the same... but there they main only fly y/b's / yearlings and are after the long haul races. As you have no Evening light, I guess any distance race has to be a two - three day race is and when attested. I'd plumb for the lack of sunlight hours personally.
  2. Wouldn't bother personally. Many a good fncier around doing the honours with many different strains. So I for one can't for the life of me believe, let alone understand, why the bird at Blackpool is 50% dearer. I'd wager that because they are bought there it doesn't make them fly faster, and certainly won't make them 50% and more better. So I'd buy some Equipment / troughs Et's or anything what have you that is seen to be a lot cheaper and worth the effort of carrying it all the way home. Good maybe... Pigeons? :-/ :o Never! And that includes the only decent bargains that will be going Louella's. Bet they are some belters and including those not sold will be a blumming lot cheaper on a sunday morning at his stud farm!
  3. Yep I did. But it was call barr, so I / we lost out. Seems her son is interested in wild life too... So who knows might have a budding fancier there too lol
  4. For their part in retrieving a pigeon . I was contacted via a Vet a couple of days ago regards a pigeon handed in via a member of the public. For one reason or another I was unable to get there. rest assured I most certainly would. Would have done at the death so to speak for the sake of our 'Fanciers Name'. I contacted Bakes as I knew he was i the region of... Whom forwarded Stan the Man's name. Also Mr Arnold's who lives in the sam. But he wasn't on line and I couldn't find his member name to P.m him .... came on just after actually lol. Any way Stan the Man came back to me. He'd arranged for a work mate to pick it up, take to his loft for safe keeping. Which I am most grateful and indebted to them both. I got the Vets to ask the lady to phone me, as I wanted to say thanks and send her some flowers. She disd and we had a great chat etc. We didn't exchange her number as I thought 1947 would retrieve... it didn't. But I will be taking her some flowers when I fetch my bird. Thanks again to all concerned. Most appreciated.
  5. Didnt no you can pair 2 hens together, :-/ Of course you can, and even slip a couple of eggs or youngstes under them lol. Just won't be the proper parents of course ;D ;D ;D Some good ones there though,
  6. You know, have toyed so often with having Tumbles/ Tipplers / Rollers etc. If had the room I most certainly would. If I ever do actually decide to stop racing I would have them. No two ways about it. Lovely colours and marks. Great to see them flying etc. Used to have them also as a youngster. Dad frowned and chuntered lol, and they had to be moved on. Gave them all away. Was sad really, but the garden was very small, Mother was a moaner regards pigeons etc. etc. If I ever get back into the countryside they will gotten. Be about a year on, after I'd made sure there were not Sparrow hawks etc. to harm them Lol
  7. Lovely bird that .... what one has come to expect from Chris and Tammy of course.
  8. I'd say yes 1005.... but have to be clocked also within 5 -10 minutes via rubber too.
  9. I love grizzles.... been very unlucky in keeping them. Still have a good grizzle hen from Safos and am hopeful there like.
  10. I agree with that 1005. you either have it in abundance, or very little, or none at all lol.
  11. Lol, That was Richard the .... Shakespears... Never mind lol, but he did have the end of the Templars Knights. Even if Bacon supposedly actually wrote the plays etc. that Shakespear nicked.... needed a better knight of honour I guess lol
  12. Yep, the true English are Welsh so I've always been led to believe. Mind around the time of him and his 'Round Table' they weren't no knight as is so often dispicted. Think they came about 200 years later eh! :-/ Still as long as us so - called English mongels beat them in this next Rugby Seris who cares lol. Mind we certainly had a lot of room and respect for the Archers in Agincourt eh. So Paul it was the English Archers that did so much damage after all with their long bows lol.
  13. Well if the Bussearts are good enough for Ronnie Williamson, then who am I to argue, let alone say different lol. And remember any and everyone wants him to try their birds.... yet they go and the Bussearts seemingly remain.
  14. Had a great looking Red Chequer like that. 4 days to do 40 miles. When I mentioned this at club meetings I was ribbed cronic, 'A lead wanter' - Wanted a bit put n it's ear with a 4 10'. Never homed on the day hardly from a training toss. Only ever had one night away in 8 years as a racers, a Bad Thurso. Used to ask why that 'Lead Wanter' had beaten theirs yet again lol. Bred.... Nowt.
  15. Yep Greenlands, I only ever hear good reports of it. Meant to get some, but will do soone than later.
  16. Yes sorry had a senior moment and was thinking of Sambucol... http://www.google.co.uk/products?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUK338&q=Elderberry&cr=countryUK%7CcountryGB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=cW9LS6-JINK54gb9qfH3Ag&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CCMQrQQwAg
  17. Yearlings out crosses produce the most winners by far. Fact that. Now the problem arises 'Which to which' Answer good stock sence. Some a geniouses lis Busseart Masserella etc. others quite good / fair or most are useless. Breed incest birds to race is foolhardy, and uncalled for. Any and every time one goes against nature she turns and kicks you in the teeth. Incets breeding for an Out cross is a different matter altogether, though against mosts ideals. There is a wide golf of diffenrence in 'Line Breeding' and 'incenst' and one should know the difference even before ever applying incest. Now Strappper has it totally right. And so called duds breed great. Also - unfortunately - it is very often the missed generation of duds followed by the throw backs I.e Grandchildren that shine as both either Racers breeders. So one has to build an outcross family to get to know what will throw what. hence whilst there are very few in real terms Greats.
  18. Was a Tesco Manager, them a welder. then started up my flooring and fitting. Have always been into Entertainments one way or another. - Musical side etc. Started up http://www.rosscoleyevents.co.uk/ in 1993. Retired 18 months ago. But only go when really nessecary.
  19. I stand corrected thanks. Elderberry extract is similer spelt.
  20. Is the extract od Elderberry. Just found out after a while what and where to get. Has great properties and I hear good results, so am going to try some myself.
  21. Well the one thats been tried and tested and wins from 60 miles and flies the 1000 milers is Bussearts. End of re3ally.

    The Fox

    Why? :-/
  23. Nothing much! Think a little more than 30 years though. It was rented out afterwards. Had a few take it over and fly from there. John lawless was the last one I believe late 80's early 90's. I / my son relaid the floor for his office / watch tower there. After his desise two others tried afterwards. Was rented out with the house, but hear tell they never paid up much and ruined it. Appaarently a bit of a rogue moved in next door and then after they were got shot of, it got squatters in the house. Think the house was eventually sold on in a mess. Shame really, for it was certainly nice in it's time. The pond was wrecked and broken up etc. etc. of course long ago.

    The Fox

Looks in great fettle. Shouild have a vixe in tow too. Best left alone I believe as if can't get at yours then no harm. If could, then that would be a different proposition I guess. The 'Townie Foxes' soon look like Ferals. Skinny and poor coatings etc.
  25. Agree 100%! If incest breeding - in any form from man to animals - has proven anything it is in the long run, and very often the very short one, is that you shouldn't do it. From madness to wierdness and very poor healthy. I, like many others, believe that incest breeding is a major reason why the birds ae / or don't have a very good immune system, and further, m a very detrimental behavior in their homing instinct. Most are soon filling up roof tops and buildings etc. As I often quip, unfortunately most don't know why, let alone how to do incest breeding. Further to say Owen's point of Breeding anything together TO get better results. That is very poor stockmanship for starters. And regardless 'Winner to Winner' breeding means mostly one is quickly breeding loser to loser. Like 'Best to Best' means you are very soon breeding worst to worst! Or not breeding anything. Show me a loft that has 8 great winners. Yes of course there are some. Show me a loft that has a ratio of 20 to one, 30 to one or even 50 - 1 losers to winners... Yes there are scores, 70% to 80% I'd reckon easierly.
