Before Scottish Feds moved to East coast racing all our SNFC race points were designed to bring the birds up the Cherburg peninsular in France with reasonable good returns especially from Avranches and Sartilly which was 515 miles into central Scotland. Rennes which was the magical name in racing came in at 550 miles and Nantes 610. All the large English National and Continental clubs are still flying those or extremely close to race points which brings me to the gist of this post. My experience of a pond your size would be to place a fountain within and remove over winter. Your fish will require nothing as they will be going into a state of hibernation once the tempreature drops and will stop feeding and the only tip I can give you is never ever overfeed them.

This has been a most interesting post with Owen and others denigrating the theory of eye sign. However over the thread Brian May was given a mention which churned out memories for me of a splendid night out where he showed his slides to a captive audience. I recall that particular evening as it destroyed my myth of eye sign when he asked the audience members to write down which slide of an eye we would like to take home, Almost all plumped for this terrific looking eye which in fact belonged to a rhode island hen. The point Brian endeavoured to make was, all is not as it seems. I have over many years been aware of an eye that will win races but only when the bird is conditioned for an optimum result once a year.

I wish I had known you had lab pups as my 13 year old retriever / lab has contracted a touch of athritis and am looking for a pup for him to train up.

Black Treacle is only 50% Molasses.

Thanks to the pulling power of "PIGEONBASICS" I picked up the said item virtually new in less than 24hrs from Tam Crow in East Calder who I had not spoken to for almost 36 years or thereabouts when I last visited Pumpherston. It was just as well we had to part company due to him having to basket birds and my good lady getting fed up sitting in the car for a couple of hours.
