I recently had a visit from The Firearms Officer for Central Scotland Police regarding renewal of my Shotgun Certificate and the subject of legislating Air Guns was approached by myself. According to the officer this legislation for an Air Gun Certificate will be in force this year and will require all Air Gun holders the opportunity of an amnesty or applying for the equivelant of a Shotgun Certificate. For those who do not realise what this means the following will apply according to him. Compensation for an existing legal Air Gun is being discussed at The Scottish Parliament now. After the end of the amnesty period any person in possesion of an Air Gun will be charged with having a firearm illegally. Pellets will be subjected to the same procedure and will require presentation of a Licenced Air Gun Certificate. No person with a criminal record will be issued with an Air Gun Certificate. At present Police forces throughout Scotland endeavour to avoid issuing Certificates.

Perhaps fool was used in the wrong context by myself and perhaps "if you will allow me" to replace it with "foolish in my opinion". Yes I am stuck in the 80s when there was 5 times the number of fanciers and 5 times the number of birds sent and I could more than hold my own. I was never able to understand why fanciers decided the darkness system was superior to natural young bird racing as I have proved on countless occasions that it is not. The cost in winter rearing must be astronomical in lighting and feeding say 30 young birds for 3 months of the year when you dont have to equates to 96Kgs of feed plus the cost of dimmer switches and electricity. Now for me I would be foolish to even contemplate such an expensive system that produces nothing. I will not go down the line where losses are allegedly greater with darkness nor quality of racing allegedly diminishes with old birds.

By the looks of all the replies fanciers dont do that system any more and have forgoten how it used to be now that darkness young birds are the done thing, However I will educate you on racing natural young birds. Can you elaborate a little as regards have you paired up yet as only fools breed at this time of year. TIC..

John when you are running a meeting and people will not allow debate then its not a meeting for discussion and listening to other peoples views. A rabble comes to mind. Certain persons perhaps including yourself had your own agenda and disruption was the name of the game. I have been to many a union meeting where voices are stragetically placed to cause as much havoc as possible and in my opinion this was carried out. I accepted the fact regarding the regions and voted for change due to the unfairness and by the way I am in the West section sorry Region.

Thats very true but did John and Gareth tell them all that they would still have to pay their SNFC subscriptions for 2013 and if they decided not to then they would have been debt suspended and would not be racing pigeons anywhere ? I think not..Donkeys years ago if you did not pay your subscription by a certain date you were deemed to have resigned from the SNFC however it has been registered with the SHU that resignations must be in the hands of the Secretary PRIOR to the SNFC AGM !! Noo thats a different baw game.

Aye John and what concerned me was the fact the doc allowed you from the start to spout the garbage about losing hundreds of members and therefore uttering fear and discontent to the members present. Democracy works all ways and Phil is entitled as an individual member of our club to legitamately propose any competent motion as you or I do. Regarding your negativity and of your cohorts I personaly found it quite appalling.
