    Vitamin B12

You might change your mind after reading this..! PERNICIOUS ANAEMIA Pernicious anaemia is the result of a vitamin B12 deficiency that develops if the blood cannot properly absorb vitamin B12 from the intestinal tract. It is called a 'megaloblastic' anaemia, and occurs when the early, immature red blood cells are abnormal (a megaloblast is one type of early red blood cell with a specific abnormality). Most healthy people (except strict vegetarians) have a 3-5 year reserve in their livers of vitamin B12, which is easily absorbed from meats. Vitamin B12 deficiency occurs when the stomach does not secrete a vital substance called 'intrinsic factor', which is required for vitamin B12 absorption in the ileum (part of the small intestine). It can also result after surgical removal of the stomach or ileum. Pernicious anaemia often causes symptoms such as decreased appetite, weight loss, constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, swollen or painful tongue, tingling in the hands and feet, and lack of balance and coordination. Treatment usually starts with repeated injections of vitamin B12 into a muscle. As vitamin B12 reserves accumulate, injections are needed less often. Eventually, levels of vitamin B12 are maintained by an injection once a month, but need to be continued for the rest of the patient´s life. Occasional blood tests will make sure that all is well.

    Help Amtrak

You have obviously got access to the internet - make use of it. Directory enquiries are free, www.bt.com amtrak have their own website, but the service is sub-contracted out in my area to a company called Gemini ? My local office is Thornaby 01642 763676, I phone them up, tell them I want x no. of pigeons picking up from such and such an address - with post code, and generally they'll say, we'll do that this afternoon, and I'll say I'll pick them up from the Thornaby office in the morning, and I usually pick them up at 8.00am the following morning. They have NEVER let me down.
  9. I'm in Group 6, its a SW wind and am flying just shy of 130 miles - Mealy bar is a few miles longer and I'm never sure which lib they go with - are you Group 6 as well Mealybar ?

  13. I was trying every method, first the flotation method, then a sample mixed with water and couldn't find anything - in the end I took the pigeons to a vet and they didn't have any worms, cocci or canker for that matter, so there wasn't anything to see...........
  14. It is devastating - but we have lost more off the loft than we have due to racing - presumably to hawks - c'est la vie.
  15. No Steve, not sending to Bourges, Lillers was the first time over the channel for 4 cocks we had and we are sending 3 of those to Clermont. We don't as yet feel we have the birds to do that sort of distance - or have the experience to do it (them and us..!!) The weather reports have changed every day this week, we will be sending to Melton Mowbray - but it worries me that we will have a repeat of the same race from last year when we lost so many birds ( and the Bourges birds were held over )
  16. THE UNC ARE RACING FROM BOURGES ON FRIDAY (530 - 600+ MILES)- DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER OF COURSE AND MELTON MOWBRAY ON SATURDAY

    Master plan!

You're all putting me off training my young birds...! They have yet to have their first toss Weather awful today here anyway, tomorrow supposedly a south west wind, my idea is to let them out to range, they usually do 1 to 2 hours, trap them with a little seed, then basket them, take them 8 miles inland, let them out in 2 batches of 14, 5 minutes apart - and keep everything crossed ;D ;D ;D Please tell me if you think it a bad idea
