  2. Small Dark Chequer - it does have a telephone number ring on and I shall keep trying it, just keeps ringing out. Canterbury area if you are looking in....... no race rubber, bare in mind NEHU had race from Broomland near Folkestone today, so may have been caught up in that
  3. 5 more returned - 3 left to come - phew.... :-/
  4. Terrible race for me, only 1 back from 9, clocked at 13.27 -I saw very few going overhead, maybe a hundred or so, don't know whether they were more inland or more out to sea (I live about 400 yards from the North Sea) looking on the bright side, atleast I don't have to bother taking the clock to the club..... forgot to add - about half an hour behind club winner.... but more bothered about missing birds
  5. Sorry Ted, by the time I wrote my post you'd posted, must improve my typing skills, you were a help Ted, cos if it was WDA, they doing 50mph or so, that has helped, rather be ready for them far too early than too late eh?
  6. Haven't got a distance either, Folkestone was 260 miles to me, so similar, can't guess an accurate time, so basing on 60mph 4 hours 20 mins, 10 mph west or sw winds all way up, I'm on my lonesome and having to sort the hens out for this widowhood lark, what a carry on - still, the only two times I have clocked before, we scored.... ( both much shorter distances tho' ) WDA up at 7.00 also, so if you know anyone from there, ask them to phone u, shorter distance by 30 miles, will give you half an hour, Newton Aycliffe in WDA, know anyone from there, or Darlington ?
  7. Ted, that could have been the WDA ( West Durham Amalgamation) I suppose which was liberated at the same time this morning from Maidstone ( tho' a bit to the west....? ) Difference would be 30,000 pigeons from one and 3000 or so for the other
  8. There is a Brookland and a Brooklands, we were told it was about 2 miles from Folkestone, Brooklands is about 68 miles from you, Brookland about 132 by road the latter is the nearest to Folkestone, but at that speed looking the most unlikely....... thanks for replying Ted - much appreciated cheers. :K) will keep you informed
  9. Brookland is a little north of Folkestone, how far are you from Folkestone (do us a velocity check please :K) I'm clocking in (only for the third time ever...!) Guess I have my uses now and again :

Thanks Tammy_1, the forecasts are slightly different and slightly better at race point on the site you suggested, but I can't read the wind speed - its little init ? have only sent 9 birds because of weather, left the less experienced ones at home
  13. Would someone please explain the connection with the beginning of the thread and the end of it and why or how you would come to that conclusion ? Is red mite an all year round problem, only experience I have heard before is in greenhouses in summer to do with plants and is that the same insect ?

Just had a look at the weather forecast for tomorrow and we may get a race if the birds are up early enough, trouble is the weather forecasters (bbc) are not very accurate, time will tell, will the birds be up to it - mine came back half starved from a one day holdover at Folkestone (2) last year Part cloudy at racepoint 7.00 am sunny until mid-afternoon Teesside, westerly winds all the way (8 - 10 mph) - supposedly........ weather today has been shocking up here, its hard going for the working person tho', 2 days holiday for one race, if they go tomorrow, one for basketing, one for clocking, can't put them in all races if this continues, won't have enough holiday days left for a holiday... and I sure am gonna need one

My thoughts don't amount to much, a bit like the racing we have had. The birds should never have been basketed this week, weather forecast being so poor, don't think we will get a race this week as forecast is grotty for another week looking at the long term forecast, so might not even get a race at the weekend. Birds should have been brought back home today in my opinion. The season starts too early, and particularly this year, can't see the point in having so many races from the same race point. There are now too many races to make up. Those who normally fly the long channel races will be bitterly disappointed if there is no channel racing (don't personally have birds that will do those distances) There is nothing the organisation can do about the awful weather we have been having, but they could have more foresight. They have better weather communications than the man on the street. Disappointing so far - worse than last year
  17. Yes bart, but who is going to do the dirty work ? Certainly not me.

I have no idea what the id numbers are - I assume you don't pick them yourselves, and I don't have a nickname for the site, as I said, I have never been on a chat room anywhere and didn't even know what you did, to be honest it was not what I expected. As I said previously, you would have been non the wiser had I not said anything at all, if I was two people I would have kept quiet - but I was not two people, the other person 'h' WAS somebody else, are the ID numbers generated by the site ? If so, tha site has a problem if we did have the same ID number.

You mentioned that in the chat room yesterday, I thought it would be rude to ask why - you usually have them on your teeth.....!

You have got a vivid imagination, I have tried sending a pm to barlbyloft but there is an error message. I was 'whats', had never used a chat room before and said that, I asked Hyacinth what time it was where she lived, and how long she had been in USA, h was from Florida as I recall, Hyacinth had to go wait for her birds. I was talking about roundabout and widowhood, and left the chat room at about 9.30, approx. it was before barlbyloft. I hadn't the experience to advise anybody, said I did more by observing the birds, I don't understand the way of thinking for roundabout and widowhood, thought the birds raced better sitting eggs and feeding young, said that I was not cut out for racing cos I didn't have a heart of stone - we lost a lot of hens (6) first race, and I was gutted (well I didn't say I was gutted, but I was - I'm new to this and they're like pets to me. Does that sound like animal right activists to you ? h seemed as if he was genuine and I don't think he had raced and wanted advice. I said he was more likely to get it from strangers (ie on sites like this) than club members. I found the chat room confusing as you didn't know who was talking to who, and I think I mentioned that in the chat room. The name I used in the chat room wasn't 'whats' but I put a space in and thats what came up. Oh yes, I also asked about the abbreviations used on these sites cos I didn't know what they meant -lol, which I now know, and pmsl which I don't know - but gather it might not be so nice as barlbylofts said he'd get thrown out of the chat room if he said what it was - call me naive - haven't a clue anyway. Sorry this is so long, if I wasn't a genuine person I would have let this pass wouldn't I and you would have been non the wiser.
  22. REDCAR - CLOUDY BUT SUN BREAKING THROUGH AT 7.58 AM
  23. Redcar - at 7.30 has been raining ages, really dismal and bleak, haven't ventured outside yet............
  24. 9 times out of 10 the birds that I get in are fed and watered for a few days, taken 70 miles or so nearer home and released, but all done after speaking to the owner in case its a favourite, stock bird unraced etc or the owner would rather amtrak anyway. The only problem is when birds persistently return, and the owners refuse to amtrak when you want them to !! I have no objections to looking after stray birds for 2 weeks for them to recover or weather to improve, but only have room for 4, and that includes my own for 'sick bay' . Although I am not loaded I would personally amtrak home 9 out of 10 birds I have, or collect if within 70 miles or so
  25. Thanks Jimmy, have never ever had a pigeon reported through NEHU or RPRA (thats in 3 years) and very few of mine reported through wing stamps either. One last year, one so far this year. Its disappointing for me.
