  1. UNC Liberated 13,804 birds from Lille at 9.40am (and 4 of em are mine...)
  2. Redcar - full cloud cover at the moment, has been raining in last half hour. 7.48am
  3. I think they are made to order in Germany ? I have seen the roof rack one - very good but very expensive - over £400 for one holding just 30 pigeons, that particular one was ordered at Blackpool Show and not by me ( so no begging letters please.. ;D) http://www.geraldy-kfz.de/kontakt.html http://www.geraldy-kfz.de/eng/content_dachtransport.html above links might help.
  4. Was he paired up ? He might come down and in if he sees his hen in the garden - thats what happened to us.
  5. ????????? Pardon ? The Queens Cup last year from Clermont ? The UNC took part in it Our club is bloody furious that the UNC could make such a decision without it being put to the members
  6. Just seen the photograph Samantha, they are gorgeous, hope the missing youngster finds its way back home
  7. Thanks for your input guys, expected to be a south or south west wind at weekend - hope its not a blow home, birds do better in northerlies..... glad you put that in shadow, difference of opinion in partnership ( cos they are HIS cocks ), I think its nearer sprint distance than channel racing. The next jump up is to 392 miles - but we won't be sending.... ;D ;D ;D Just looked at weather and weathermen have changed their minds - west at racepoint, north east at home end, at the moment not too strong a wind - there's plenty of time for that to change :X :X
  8. Our longest inland race is 262 miles, the shortest channel race is 318 miles. Would the preparation be different ? If so in what way. The birds have been re-paired and expecting to be sitting eggs on day of basketting. Should anything extra be put in the feed ? Will possibly be sending 2 or 4 birds. All have been to the longest inland race atleast twice for the yearlings, 4 times for the two year olds. None have been over the channel before. 2 marcellis, one Jannsen, one Jannsen/Van Loon. 1 x marcellis scored last year 160 mile race, the others have yet to score, but the two yearlings were 1st and 2nd back last week, at 160 miles, all tend to go over the top in National races.... ;D ;D ;D

  10. Hens lay eggs ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D One method I have read - and used this year is the smiley - frowning bottom theory This can be done when the birds are in the yellow fuzz stage: . 1. FACE THE YOUNG BIRD AWAY FROM YOU AT EYE LEVEL BEING VERY CAREFUL FOR PROPELLANT MATTER. 2. CHECK TO SEE IF THE POOP CHUTE ::::: IS SMILING OR FROWNING. 3. THE COCKS SMILE 4. THE HENS FROWN 5. SIMPLE WITH PRACTICE, KEEP A RECORD OF THEM, TIME WILL TELL...! I have kept a record, but was disappointed initially as I thought method was incorrect, as most of the young birds appeared to be smiling and therefore cocks. I haven't checked back as yet, but judging by the birds as they are in the loft, and the way they are acting, I have 18 cocks and 6 hens with 2 unknowns. VERY disappointing...!!! > >
  11. 10/10 from Huntingdon, but they all came from the North instead of the south... : >
  12. National Flying Club TED report to RPRA 01452 712529 OR report on STRAY part of their website http://www.rpra.org/
  13. I couldn't have put it better myself. Nursed one back to health for two weeks after contacting owner, wasn't able to phone owner to say bird had been liberated, but he phoned to say bird was back and in excellent condition - should bloody think so - it had been on gemthepax, probiotics, mulitvitamins and good corn for a fortnight !! It made the 180 mile journey home in less than 4 hours, with a slight tail wind. Only had one bird reported so far ( but I'm not counting the one I had reported 200 yards down the road - still, was delighted to get her back and collected her )
  14. When we train young birds we start them off close to home, until they gain confidence, a few times at each training point, in 5 mile increments starting about 5 weeks before the first race. 3 or 4 times at 5 miles, same at 10 miles, 15 and then might jump to 25 miles for 2 or 3 chucks. Then once or twice from 40 miles. First race for us is 55 miles. Some fanciers don't bother and throw the poor buggers in at the deep end - sink or swim style
  15. Only got one bird reported all last year, and so far this year have only had one reported, a yearling, all wing stamped except young birds they have yellow telephone number rings on, 10 of them missing off loft, not one reported.
  16. According to the handbook it is North Weald this weekend, but who knows eh,,,? We'll find out from the lib-line when the birds are liberated I daresay. ;D ;D ;D
  17. Thank you Hyacinth :B
  18. We were on at 5.21 (1255 vel), 129 miles 950 yds, believe Homer & Williams topped NY Fed, but not sure of time 5.13 to 5.17 - distance 127m 701 yds
  19. We had our first win of the season today - gobsmacked, thought we were miles behind as it was such a slow race. All birds back within 40 minutes - so very pleased Must have been all your good wishes eh..?

  22. What part of the test kits do you need ? Microscope slides and coverslips e-bay, got mine from gainexpress - Hong Kong on e-bay, very quick. Long cotton buds - http://www.firstaidforfeet.com/Products_Misc.asp they're excellent - tho' not sterile - £3 for 100 incl postage The solution I believe is just a saturated solution of sugar or salt looking on other web-sites, but not 100% was there anything in particular fifer ?
  23. This I think, is the Melton Mowbray race that normally takes place the day of the Bourges race, but not 100% sure :

Northern counties and South East Durham up at 9.00am North West WIND And only sent because I have been ill for the last week and will be at home to clock in. Hull, Scarborough area weather would be nice to know, has the wind dropped like its supposed to ?
  25. The UNC are having a catch up race tomorrow from Melton Mowbray ( 3 races to catch up on I think ) some are being liberated at 9.00 am, others ( mine included ) in the afternoon, any chance of you good people giving a weather report tomorrow, am and pm, especially coastal areas, looks like sunny intervals 10 - 15 mph North winds for much of the day according to the BBC forecast :-/
