  1. We had a vaccinator who did all the birds but he can no longer do them all birds are supposed to be witnessed and certificates signed accordingly, so now club needs volunteers to vaccinate! I'm asking for advice on technique and if it matters where bird is vaccinated, some birds were killed last year because birds were vaccinated incorrectly I obviously want to avoid that scenario!
  2. I had a few 'lessons' last year but was not very happy about where I was shown/expected to vaccinate birds. I vaccinated my own birds - but nobody elses last year - and vaccinated in a bit of loose skin by the side of the neck picking it up and jabbing in there, as the vaccination is 'subcutaneous' that means just under the skin, I wasn't happy doing the birds down the back of the neck ? What do you do? Does the position of the needle matter? (I also did them indoors sat on a chair well - you have to be comfortable don't you?)
  3. A bit early for some AGM's, ours won't be until around 22nd January - and there will be a few proposals - and no doubt many complaints! A few new members and a couple of resignations
  4. Having recently bought a duck feather and down duvet............. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-50485043
  5. Best in Show and Best opposite sex NEHU 2019
  6. The fliers own clock and the club mates Base - it can and was done
  7. The Base - he hadn't charged the car battery up, it also messed up the print off of both parties (but that's another story....)
  8. It was the next garden on the allotment - less than 10 yards!
  9. It's 2019! No! Not with modern clocking systems!
  10. I agree Tony
  11. Recently on Facebook a fancier reported a Sunderland pigeon, it was in Denmark though! The Danish fancier made a suggestion and a solution was found - he took this bird to the Kassel show in Germany and Ian Snaith from Middlesbrough collected it and brought it back to the UK! Well done to them both!
  12. I suppose I didn't 'set the scene' properly, you would have had to run in the path of the landing bird in order to put in the other persons clock - and bird would have had to have gone over the pad thereby putting off the other bird from landing, he waited and clocked his own in first, followed by the other fancier
  13. It wasn't to win, this was for 4th & 5th club
  14. This is the scenario - it happened in my own club Club mate gets a bird from 430 miles but the battery has gone on his ETS system and won't clock the bird in He comes to you to use your system - at which there is a bird above ready to drop for you...........
  15. If animals as big as pine Martins can get in the loft, it's going to be over run with vermin causing illness in your birds, you need 1/4" mesh everywhere, behind vents and covering any gaps for ventilation - and use the brushvdraught excluders on the sides of outer sliding doors if you have them
  16. We have 4 cups to come this year from two wins, surprisingly, one of the races in itself does not get a cup (otherwise it would have been more!) We won Huntingdon and topped the federation with a velocity of 2011ypm - winning the cup for the highest velocity of the season. We also won the last channel race from Burbure with a yearling and were also 3rd & 4th winning the Cup for the last channel race, the yearling Cup for that race, and the cup for the best average for the two shortest channel races. One member in our club has 14 cups to come this year! One of our club cups - for Bourges, has not been won since the club topped the combine in 2015, we have not had a member time in in race time since then. Anybody got any presentation evenings this year?
  17. We have 3 new applications so far and one member leaving the club this coming year, one partnership is from another club - moving loft location and two are new members (with one of them being in his 80's new to the area) Anyone else had an increase in membership?
  18. I use quite a few supplements all year round, some liquid and some powder, I've always kept them in the kitchen but have room to house in the shed now, with a cold winter forecast I don't want anything freezing. Of those of you who use supplements, where do you store them over winter? I use them all year round so will continue to use over the winter (Gemthepax, oregano based herban liquid, quill boost-a liquid acidifier, to name a few that I use)
  19. It's basketing today for the final young bird race of the season for most of the Up North Combine, our federation chose a midweek race earlier in the season instead but was only one of two Federations who took that option (a previously cancelled early race)
  20. Just enjoy your holiday, you will get home one way or another, don't worry about it
  21. I think maybe it was because they were all away last week - at 245 miles and this week it was a quick 54 minutes. Lost 2 minutes but was still (possibly) 9th fed with one club yet to submit results
  22. Some people had a young bird race today - I was one of them! It was the last race of the season and the first race that the b#ggers wouldn't trap!
  23. Not going abroad, 5 days in Cornwall and further 5 days in Somerset beginning of October, taking the OH and the dog!
  24. 1st Woodroffe Bros 1693.46 2nd J Richardson & son 1692.98 3rd Woodroffe Bros 1692.35
  25. Re-read my post! I did point it out that leading velocities were 1700. Nobody guessed above 1620 so b.massey was the nearest velocity as it was the highest velocity guessed!
