  1. Happy birthday.
  2. Really sorry to hear of the passing of great friend hughie martin, racing as MARTIN & KING of SHOTTS they were absolutely fantastic fanciers club fed and especially the national,as I 15 year old boy my mother asked me what to get my dad for his 40 th birthday, my dad had been reading the gazette and a report on the above partnership winning the LSC GOLD CUP 1982 and I said a youngster from these crack fanciers, after a few enquiries the next day we set off in mums wee allegro to 180 shots Kirk rd and were shown across the road to the lofts,Hugh welcomed me into the dookit and I was shown and handled the lofts champions which I can still remember,Hugh only had two latebreds in the loft which were off the hen which would eventually win a SNFC gold award " five times a lady",Hugh wanted to keep them but being the guy he was offered me the pick and I choose a beautiful blue pied hen,Hugh did not want any payment but we eventually agreed a small fee,the hen turned out a cracker and bred us a hen to score at Rennes three times,we would over the years swap youngsters with Hugh and he was always on hand to offer me advice about feeding and preparation,I had not spoken to Hugh for some years until recently where I met him at the race marking at uddingston where we had a smashing chat about the old days! Hugh was a great fancier but more importantly he was a great guy, thoughts are with Hugh's family at this really sad time.rip Hugh. John Hood.
  3. Was at murrayfield to see them beat the English in 2018,but yesterday was a bit special, well done scotland.
  4. So sorry to hear this very sad news, thoughts are with the Murphy family.john hood.
  5. The second one would be my preferred programme.
  6. I am sure people are being vaccinated,I work in a Scottish care home and between staff and residents have nearly all been vaccinated,it was all pretty straight forward, the Louisa Jordan in Glasgow is set up for a really fast turnaround in getting people in and out safely.hope this helps.
  7. Well done mr and mrs Blyth,a very special thing to do.
  8. Not for me,plenty of things require discussion, but hey ho let's hope we are racing next year!!!!!
  9. Happy birthday tommy, cream legbars still laying!!"
  10. I am booked in for next week John.after 28 weeks of having to do the dreaded test, got to have it.
  11. Got to agree with Walter regarding the latebreds, too many fanciers take a couple and forget them all winter and lose them at the first races the next year and say latebreds are a waste of time. A basket full in their own section and out every day and tossed on good days midweek my mum and dad would take them when going for the messages and at the weekend I would take them to the away games when watching the famous partick thistle,we turned out some crackers over the years with birds scoring at club fed and national, had a wee hen win 4 SNFC OPEN POITIONS,a bit of time and work but very well worth it.
  12. Think that's it and I still can see George telling me the story of the mealy cock,he flew with brother Alec into glenboig and the lofts sat in the field near where the gas tanks are now,the brothers fancied the cock and had it all pooled winning over 700 quid!!! The brothers bought a brand new estate car each and then a fortnights holiday in bournmouth with the family and on the return home both mrs fowlers bought new curtains for the houses!!! Some money in those days, had some great times with George who could still time a good Rennes bird well into his 80s,he was the first fancier to lift the phone to me and my dad offering congratulations to ourselves when we were lucky enough to win the section from the gold cup. Can still see George sitting at Jackie herds loft with a cup of tea and his old school shirt and tie on,great memories.
  13. Yes my old pal george fowler was 2nd west sec 7th open rennes in the late 50s beaten for the section by a fancier in Crawford I believe.
  14. Definitely Alf very emotional,
  15. I take them off the darkness first week in June ( usually first inland national weekend) usually 6th or 7th. Darkened 6 pm with a couple of wee boards and taken off before I go to work about 7 am.
  16. Was going through the youngbirds today and very pleased with the ones we are left with, had 26 young birds at the start and by the time racing started we had 5 birds missing,we lost 3 birds at the two kelso races,3 between the two Hexham races and all home sedgefield and the last race ripon,a further youngster was lost exercising around the loft after the season end,we were lucky enough to win 2 firsts,3 seconds and also 3 thirds with our small team and also yb ave. The birds had 12 tosses before the racing from 16 miles and no training after,John mac had them out most afternoons exercising.was lucky to have some excellent incommers in the team from crack fanciers in central Scotland and Essex and timed these birds most weeks, most of the youngsters after race 2 and 3 paired up although they were not encouraged. So a wee summery started racing with 21 birds and ended up with 14 raced and only 3 birds lost over 100 miles, and all home at 140 and 170 miles.so hopefully a few decent yearlings will come through 2021.
