I would soap the wings and let them out as much as possible, then let them have a bath, they will ease in to flying again and should not fly to hard untill the are well broke out,

I had pigeons with my mate i was 7 till i was 10, we seen a lads that had birds out and stopped to talk to him, he gave us some strays that got me going but i dont really remember them, the first pigeon i got on my own when i was to 10 was a little unrung red i called red band from a fella called charlie smith, along with a red stray, i let he red out and she dissapered, he then got me a unrung blue, that i called blue band ;D The sad thing is,, My dad would only let me have two birds at the time, so when i got offered a pair of van loons a month later they went, i still have the rings off them, 97 rung Good times

2 years ago i was told to block bottom vent to stop drafts, in winter, i had deep litter down and had problems with res, i put vicks on the top of each box and the gunk that came was out of this world, opened the vents after that, :-/

I do, I like to makesure that my birds are in top form to start with, proberly dont need to and proberly wrong in the long run, :-/ but i like to so i do,

No you will deffo be ok,, i dont do it my self as i dont like it, being a joiner i like to see the wood, I know top flyers that paint all of the box including the floor and they win out of turn, also as andy said, i have worked it the grade one listed building in hamilton square built in 1848 and they inpregnateed the timber with tar so that it didn't rot, and if anything paint would help it last longer, is that not the point of it ?
