    Pigeon Shows

The shows held at clarkston in the big hut are excellant shows and very friendly.
  2. Dont u think the plastic fronts sometimes go brittle on the hard frosty nights. Theres a chance one or two might break. Are wooden fronts no good to u m8 ?
  3. Sorry to hear that m8. Rip Russell.
  4. Lol
  5. Hope it all turns out a success m8!
  6. In modern times i would say Busschaerts and at the present time would have to say Vandenabeeles. For the distance in the last 10- 20 years the Jan Ardens or Arden based have been outstanding birds
  7. A few other strains that were very successful in there time were the old Barkers by god they have done some winning and were very tough birds. Still some fancers winning today with them in the base of their lofts. As were the Osmans and Marriots. Would also have to say Vandeveldes who at one time were prolific plus the Bricoux and sions.
  8. Forgot to say that the 1,000ml club pigeons were convoyed by the British Barcelaona Club a very friendly a successful National club. Another couple of names just spring to mind namely Eddie Newcombe who aent at least once and several times my old mentor Dennis Dall!
  9. Some other names that sent with the 1,000ml Club along with Henry Mair were Alan Raeside from Ayrshire, quite a few around Ayrshire used to send also Dave Smith from Dunning John Ellis, Bert Stewart Carnoustie then the Crieff loft of Hunter Gauld & Saunders. There was a well known loft in Gorebridge who did well, names on the tip of my tongue. I will get some of the other names in time when i remember. There were other guys from Fife, Dundee and Angus and of course even guys from the North sect Abbie Bruce was one that springs to mind also wilson Noble Fraserburgh who also sent and im sure recorded a pigeon from Rome some 12 hundred odd mls i think. Stand corrected on the latter part of this post tho.
  10. Correct Lewis wee Dennis called thum the Dally Mixtures. He was a strong believer in good long distance pigeons on the UK scene. Cant think of anyone else in the modern era who's birds had such an impact in other lofts particularly in the long races. They seemed to do well where ever they went. A great cross they could be found in lots of National winning lofts, sect winners Gold Awards fed toppers galore. One of the very best and most genuine uk long distance fanciers i have ever met and one of the best of all time! It was an honour for me to be able to contact him several times a week and an even bigger honour to know him as a friend.I realy miss him a great deal but his legand will live on.
  11. Was just about to say that Froog lol. Then again they were a Belgian strain. Not sure what was meant by the first post. Would say Kirpatrick at one time were also a very successful British or Scottish strain.
  12. Well done yous two guys.
  13. Forgot to say Wellbank Endurance was 1St and 2nd sect E two years on the trot from there and his best position was 27th Open beating birds flying 300- 400 ml further than birds that beat him in the British Barcelona Club. Also to keep the nostalga going the years were 1972 & 1973 if my memory is correct.
  14. Jim Biss also had in his loft at one time the well known Red Pied cock Wellbank Endurance raced by my old friend John Elli. John told me he later bought the pigeon back From FWS Hall at his famous Enfields London Auctions. Something John told me he never regretted.Fantastic pigeon twice Palamos 1044 mls and sire gsire gg grand sire to many winners.
  15. I think ur right theres not as many go into other lofts as we think. Maybe it depends on where peoples loft are situated. Some get a few in and some none at all.
  16. Good point m8 think their given out far too easily to some that are already in a fortunate position.
  17. One of the best but more like in the 80's i think.
  18. There was m8 the scottish 1000 ml club. Dunno if Vend and Turban go back to Lionheart. If they did then it was a long way back and quite a few years between thum too.
  19. Heart breaking big fella i know but dunno what else you coulda done if their all wingstamped. Sure beggars belief.
  20. Nothin queerer than pigeon men pal.
  21. Yup both true. Honest and straight to the point. Like them very much.
  22. A good old fashioned common sense post there m8. A lot of truth in it.
  23. Lol.
  24. Aye a ken they dont make thum like they used too!
