Cracker Alec , but judge has a hard job at clarkston , nearly every bird is in tip top condition , in fact the top guys at this show for the last few years never got a ticket in the hens either , John and Jamie carberry . And boy can they get them right . I Handled a cock last weeks of theirs never got a second look , expletive remove would have won a ticket anywhere IMHO . Correct 100% davie !not the guys fault !and yes they were first class lookers .

Oh I don't disagree with your points about heat etc during a race , which starts when you basket your pigeons in the loft , to me it's about how many birds per basket access to water heat in transporter heat when racing home most will lead to dehydration ,thus losses IMHO . But I've been racing out of Geraldy transport for nearly ten years now and there is one thing I've noticed since the change from old type transporter , is the condition of birds when arriving home , years ago I used to see quite a few green droppings in loft after arrivals usually stopped by Sunday , most prob due to lack of water ,dehydration. And to add a point that davie mentioned is that is not aircon , it a small tube with holes in it pointing over the crates that runs full length of every row to reduce heat also ours have roof vents and the shutters are vented to minimise heat . I've not posted on this thread but have read it from start and although I don't know Owen ,I do know big davie , and have never read anything on here from davie other than positive constructive posts on any thread , but I have noticed with yourself Owen as alf said it seems to be your way or the highway . I' used to get them on my birds 30 odd years ago when I hadn't a clue how to feed properly , back then I fed a high protein mix most of the year , I can remember getting the odd one or two and always during the winter months when they weren't out much and still got the high protein feed . So this stuff about viruses doesn't do it with me. ,just a pour feeding regime that's all .ive spoken to andrew and told him how to rectify it . Ps I have never found one on any of my pigeons for over 30 years . Why because they are fed correctly .at all times of the year .

Your wrong rab they have flight paths , they only change for approach depending on wind direction .

Got to agree with you ,handling pigeons is one of the only ways you will learn ,from being to fat too thin in condition to coming into form ,there is a big change in a pigeon , another is observing them and noticing the change when they come into form. Eye sign. ? It's the very first thing you do when you pick up a bird look at its eye , I like a good strong eye but more importantly looking at the eye for a sign of health.
