  1. That is fantastic to hear. Well done on such a great result and also well done to Kirky for getting a new start off to a flying start (pun intended) haha.
  2. Good looking birds especially like the look of old bluey.
  3. I don't think Southmapton will struggle to bring in quality players. Tadic is a good player and Grizaino Pelle scored 55 goals in 66 matches for Feyenoord when playing under the new Southampton Manager. Old Koeman seems to be well connected and has managed some top quality clubs, no doubt he is tapping up a lot of people to bring in real quality under the radar. Gotta be honest, if LLANANNA, SHAW & CHAMBERS weren't British we all know they wouldn't be worth half of what they have sold for. You might be right they'd be better holding on to a lot of the money they recoup though cos their youth development system seems to be working wonders producing walcott, bale and oxlade chamberlain, shaw, llannana etc. Seems they are producing the golden generation like West Ham & Man United did in the 90's. Good to see a little club punching above it's weight and long may it continue.
  4. Great result and well deserved by Andy & the team.
  5. I would say Man City have done the best business economically. Three top class players (Fernando, Sagna, Caballero) for 18m. Chelsea have probably brought in the best players but must have spent about 80m+ Not convinced at all by Liverpools buys as they are decent players but not world class and stinks of, "doing a Tottenham" when they sold their Golden boy and replaced with quantity rather then quality. Newcastle have done some great business and as ever punching above their weight being very ambitious and buying the right people at the right prices (no doubt they will be out the door in 12-24 months for a much inflated fee). Southampton are the team of interest for me at the moment. Ok they have been robbed off the bulk of their good players (but have got top dollar for each of them) so have a lot of funds and look to be ready to re-invest and rebuild. Should be a fantastic season either way. Myself I am an Arsenal fan and think we will finish top 4 (at best).
  6. Wow what a fantastic clip. Never seen a lib before with that many birds so exciting to see. Any idea how many birds were there?
  7. Best of luck Andy. Thoughts will be with you fella.

  13. Happy belated birthday and thanks for keeping this wonderful site going. ATB, Pete
  14. I picked up some razor wire on amazon not long ago. Great stuff and once some plants/shrubs grow around it not visible to the eye
  15. Does anybody race celibacy? Not paired up and just racing to the perch etc? I know to win it's all about motivating the birds to the maximum, but with widowhood it seems they can be over motivated (especially the yearlings) and do crazy things which could see more lost throughout the season. Also with natural racing (paired up, eggs, yb's etc) it seems you have to be careful about when to send, eg not when they are about to lay (hens) and can also only send the cock or the hen (not both) generally... So as a new starter, looking to compete and race but more interested in getting them home and establishing a team then winning and setting the world on fire. Is celibacy/racing to the perch a good option?
  16. About 150 miles for Tony I think.

    Cats...

Cheers, I will have a look into it certainly sounds like it is worth a go. I get (and follow) your logic there 100%, that is my concern though. Being a new starter if I get my first batch of YB's(babies) out flitting about in the garden they will be vulnerable and if he is about and hassles them early it could really do me a lot of damage to a small team. If i can get them out and flying and back in etc then I won't be too worried. But the first few times out the loft when they are still unwise is a scary thought. Jesus, 30 or so birds! I couldn't deal with that, it would literally drive me bonkers and it would be more then curiosity killing the cat. I know people say keep the birds hungry so they don't play about outside the loft more then required, but when they are "young" youngbirds it is a really scary prospect knowing that they are such east targets.

    Cats...

Ah didn't even know such devices existed till I just Googled em. So do you have the hose pipe connected and turned on 24/7? Can you adjust how far the water fires? Haha agreed but I would have to catch the fur ball first.
  19. I am new to keeping bird myself so no experience to offer but the idea of soaping a birds wings up scares me as it might make them able to fly enough to get into trouble but not enough to get out of trouble, cats etc. I am a paranoid guy though

    Cats...

So both my neighbours have cats. One on the left side is no drama I think the sound/smell of my dog has kept her at bay. The cat on the right side however (a Tom) is causing me a lot of drama. He is always looking into my garden and we have a shared flat/low level roof that the birds will certainly land on and the cat is often up there. I have squirted the *expletive removed* with water a few times, also bought one of those cat detterent things (give out high pitched noises) but the bugger takes no notice of it. I am very worried about him harrassing the hell out of my YB's when they are very young. Anyone got any suggestions apart from catching him and shipping him off to no mans land? I can have my dog out in the garden 24/7 so it's not the actual floor/surface I'm worried about. It's mainly this shared roof that I am very worried about as it is the place YB's will certainly land on and flit back and forth to the loft from.

    For Sale

Come on guys not long left to go on these. Current price is VERY cheap.
  22. Should be ok now Walter
  23. Whatever variety/species you go for, go for young birds. If you go for old birds more drama and more sections required etc. Rollers are very entertaining for a bit of fun and relatively low maintenance. If you aren't planning to race competitively but want to keep a few birds for fun, you could keep an assortment of birds for example a few rollers and a few homers/racers and see what you enjoy more and which paths it leads down. There is no harm in keeping a loft of a few different breeds.
  24. If so do let me know. Cheers, Pete
