I am just back into this game and all i have seen are old bird losses; young bird losses it has changed i think from 12 years ago so the question i have is 'do i need to race my young birds or can i train them thoroughly the year of there birth and then take my chances with them as yearlings,onlytreating them gently next year distance wise i mean what do the members think eh!

Sorry i got off on a tangent of my own there but,a win in any shape or form is a win.

In my opinion a lot of it comes down to the numbers game someone putting away 40 odd a week to the next flier maybe 10 ,ask the same members to nominate their birds as in a 2 or 3 bird club then i am about sure the results would differ ,but on saying that a win is a win equaly important young or old birds .

It all depends on what distanse you want to race ,but one thing i would say is dont get carried away with the idea the more you spend the better they will be ,all the advert you see offer you birds not guarantee winners .If you have pigeon club lined up go along ,have a chat listen to a lot of tips and advice and then use what suits you because there is a great lot of different ideas all the best to you .

Let out young birds 22 and tried old birds with them 15 ,it was nice morning yesterday old doos came back 2missing then 4 youngsters ,1hour later 9young ones returned then 8, 3/4 of an hour later ,so 1 youngster lost .Hurt old hen came home spent until 3.30 trying to get it of roof ,badly smashed up later on 2nd old hen came back wing feathers missing and nervous as hell .No prizes for answer to this bluddy awful day ,between carion crows trying to take my hurt bird off the roof i, to say the least real pissed off,Oh by the way i lost a bird when i let them out the day before this is all round about my own door.What does other members think is best time to let birds out ,so the hawks have already had there kills.

I am just started with birds again after a good few years but hopefully 2-3years i will maybe get a crack at it,but on saying that i wish you all a good day for it and luck be on your side ,we all need that cheers.

I would say meglaplasmainia seen this in 2 cocks i had when first in the doos i was flying widowhood i treated with terimycin dont know if you can still get this from vet.

Mabey they need minerals if its yer auld doos give them a pick pot one day and a half feed before you let them out the next ,and a good splash o cider vinegar in there drinker,just my thoughts.
