  1. Considering the amount it takes to feed a large dog + vets bills etc keeping pigeons is not so expensive a hobby look at golf, fishing etc ,are you a smoker look what they cost a day ,do you drink 3 pints =bag doos food ,try not to put a cost on it keep as many as you can afford ,this could be something that gives a great deal of pleasure so go on enjoy.
  2. I think postal vote should be accepted as i for one have problems with my health ,because you are disabled due to health problems a member shouldnt have to forfiet his right to cast his vote ,it has nothing to do with democracy its thinking of others not so able as your self ,and remember they pay there dues the same as everyone else.
  3. Can you vaccinate a pigeon in any place other than back of neck as it is just under skin is it not?

    How To?

Is there no one in your club willing to advise or have a look at the bird for you, if not poor show I would have came over but not long out of hospital after a turn again so not on the go yet hope someone helps you out .
  5. Thanks for looking into this ,and can see louella problem just have to shop nearer home and think first £70 spent on birds would be saved on carraige ,once again thanks and my regards .

    Ring To Big

This doo was bred off a Hofken cock x Andre Dieric hen {Louella} The cock is a real big strong bird ,but never any problem with rings try washing birds legs with water and a little disinffectant Its possible the bird struck legs when out flying and the problem could be swelling but thats all i can think .ALso cut back on feed as you should be in control of when they are out and more importantly when you want them in ,all the best Craig.
  7. I was the guy complaining about the charge of £75 pounds delivery ,and yes i agree its the courier doing this but last year i asked who Louella used and the name i got advertise in BHW every week, Delivery to Scotland at £40 so whos benifiting from other £35.I have bought birds in the past from Louella ,and took in a few to get me going since coming back to doos and they certainly look the part, regards.
  8. I am nae long back into the doos so its a long time since i tried any thing across the water ,I know that we all would like to fly doos with out training , but in my opinion you have to bring them on with giving them experience and that is in the basket under race conditions and you cant do this in the back of the car, just my thoughts.

    Rip Off ?

Last year I took up some pigeons from Louela on asking the cost of delivery they quoted £70 well i thought no way so sorted out my own courier that was £40 ,just now asked for quote for delivery and this time they are saying £75 pounds, dont they want to trade in Scotland [Aberdeenshire].
  12. I wouldnt cut feeding back i would increase percentage of Barley with spoon codliver oil mixed in now and again .

    Probiotics

To evaporate the chlorine fill a couple of watering cans the night before and fill up their drinkers next day ,I also use from time to time in water Potasium Permagnate ,I think if you see signs of any bird being of, it saves the infection spreading just enough permagnate to tinge water pale purple ,just my thoughts.
  14. Dull, chilly looks like rain on the way.
  15. Build an extension on to your end of the shed 10x10 and give yourself a chance as it will happen in the long run probably when your hooked and the birds will love you for it .I cant say the the wife will but yet again she might be as good as mine and help you out cleaning etc good luck anyway.
  16. I was 17.49 for 1bag wheat, and 1bagwhole maize the last time i got barley i was 7.50 a bag ,I cant get beans of the farm up here as no one grows them so i envy members who get the chance in the south ,I did see one chap said he was 16pounds for bag of beans from bamfords ,I thought this was a great year for farmers ? so surely this should filter through to us I hope.
  17. I use 4 jugs barley 2jugs wheat 1jug maize 1jug mixture 1jug layers pellets and they are looking grand ,I think barley is a great way of controling strength of feed by upping or lowering the amount in the mix as required ,up here price of feed not coming down a lot yet.
  18. I have advanced copd and heart problems and i know how bad the breathing can be ,i use a paper mask and i use sharp sand on floor my drinkers i have 3 in a 15-16ft x 8ft loft my drinkers are 5ltr so only changed every 3 days,i have 3 sections and weigh my feed according to how many birds in loft i find that cleaning them every10 days or so suits me cleaning a section a day ,my lay out is 3ft corridor and 3sections the 2 end sections are 4x5 and middle section 7 1/2ft x5ft .The end sections, one has 20 box perches the other 16 boxes suitable hopefully for hen boxes ,middle is nest boxes ,some may say i have to many birds but they all get a perch or box .I spend about 10 mins with my birds a day ,i feed them in after exercise if i feel well enough i will handle and spend more time with them ,and i forgot to mention i have 4ft door that is opened everyday as long as bad weather is not blowing in,under this regime the birds look great and they exercise well.
  19. This is a very helpfull and interesting bit of information and i am sure i will give it a go .
  20. I asked very same question a few weeks ago and one of the replies i got was,if the bird has it in it to be a steady pigeon then it will still be there whether it is an unraced yearling going on the road or a young bird i do think they need training in year of birth .Next year 2014 my birds 2013 hatched will be racing for first time 12 latebreds hatched 2012 will also be going .I didnt get raced 2013 through ill health and i just started back in doos 2012 all are trained so here is me living in hope for next year, but i must say they look the part and exersise well so will see.
  21. Och,i will no doubt find it great as well not having to catch and clock doo as with health problems havent the same ease in breathing and heart probs so i suppose handling them once their home i can do that at my own time .
  22. How much should i be expecting to pay for a single sensor pad and ,is unikon and tauris pads interchangeable .I am just back into the doos after about 10years, and am begining to think this companies have got doo men where they want them with their steady income from ets rings, the price of spares ,the cost of new battery when required ,and what for? so as far as i can gather you dont need to be there to clock your doos in if thats not defeating the object of keeping doos what is ,what happened to handling your arrivals as they come one by one and welcoming them home .Well thats me had my rant you can put it down to bad health and age .
  23. Looking just a bit listless unwilling to go out of loft ,would rather sit in quiet corner, all the rest of them just behaving normal, thanks for your reply.
  24. My thoughts as regards the moult is birds should be able to cope with this natural event ,so therefore if one or two birds are seen to be struggling is this taken to be a sign of weakness in that particular bird ,I have mixed feelings but i dont like to see it .What do members think,is it weakness in there overall constitution?
  25. I seem to remember from when i first had birds about 15 yr ago i came upon this and after investigation through various vets etc that if the bluddy lumps were on the joints it could show they were carriers of salomonela ,as someone said before tie themm of with piece of thread to cut of blood supply and they drop off dont breed with them ,thats just something else to put in the possible tray.
