  1. The route is over congested and, yes, if one batch turns back for whatever reason 15 minutes are unacceptable. I raced with Glasgow today while a neighbour raced with Ayrshire. At one point when 2 pigeons arrived we had one each from separate liberations. I would never condem a race controller as he has a very difficult job with huge responsibility. With hindsight something complicated what should have been plain sailing today.
  2. If I read this correctly then the pigeon disappeared, entered another loft and returned within 2.5 hours. That suggests the ring thief is close by you.
  3. Beith unfortunately but I will toss the remainder at Eurocentral early then head for yours. If that's inconvenient I'll arrange something else. I can get my birds on the transporter at 9 tomorrow and come through to you from there but it sometimes runs late
  4. Sadly it looks like one of my younger ones. I could come through that way tomorrow early and pick it up if that suits.
  5. Ian I think your post has too much meat on it for general discussion. I think there will be so many points of view that it will be difficult to draw conclusions. It may be better to break it into smaller more specific areas. I do know that the met office will give you a more specialised forecast for a small charge. They measure parameters other than those contained in the public report but we need to be able to tell them what parameters are important to us.
  6. Thanks Chrlie I saw that on fab and a couple in Hull as well time unknown.
  7. Has anyone timed in yet from this race. I see the NRCC boys on Facebook are getting twitchy now

I have kept pigeons since 1968 and very few feelings can equal timing after you yourself have given up hope. Will she take a position? I don't know but I do know that she definitely gave 100% effort.

That is very difficult to predict today and will depend on just how the wind direction changes. Personally I wouldn't even try to make that prediction.

I deliberately didn't use the word correct. I used the word "sound" which is different. I am hoping for a good race for both organisations but I think that each will produce a different type of race.

I have pigeons entered with both organisations so I am hoping that both decisions were sound. Only time will tell.
  12. Well there were 14 pigeons sent from Kilmarnock marking station last night 3 were mine. Disappointed just doesn't go far enough.
  13. That's bad. We were in Troon and visibility was very variable all the time we were there. I could well imagine birds trying to cross then being shrouded in mist.
  14. I believe Mauchline is one of their race points so they may cross the water in the South Ayrshire area. Visibility about lunch time over the water was poor but hopefully cleared for them.

Definitely in section f as I have just spoken with the section f committee guy. Having said that it just has to be the most difficult location in the country to fly into so a very well deserved position indeed.
  16. At one time Louella sold Workman Bakers which were mainly blue pieds. I doubt if they were very closely related to the original Stassarts.
  17. There are a couple of early arrivals on lib line now.

I just need to say well done to Ken Buchannan. For a couple of years he seemed to lose form and he started to regain some momentum last year. It looks as though he is back on form now.

I hope they have a great race!
  20. Most of them have been brainwashed from an early age. There is no point in discussing anything with them on their home territory. This will only lead to frustration. Just work away in the background and do what has to be done!

The above bird arrived with me some time today. It would be good if someone could supply contact details.
  23. I know that Stuart but the legislation does not mention numbers. There are any number of fanciers close to Prestwick Airport
  24. I believe there is a legal radius of about 8 miles around any airport within which you are not allowed to liberate. There are also guidelines for race controllers about notifying airport control rooms. Having said that in addition to pigeons I believe there is also a huge flock of grey geese and Whoopers swans which graze in a field close to Glasgow Airport without problem.
