Sad day the sport has lost a good man. I judged up in Wick one year with him and Sandy Mutch. We spent the weekend up there and it was great. My over-riding memory was his dry wit and great turn of phrase. Rest in peace. Paul.

They are everywhere Jimmy I am dreading letting my youngsters out they will be like lambs to the slaughter. Even when you are there watching they are taking birds just feet away from you. Paul.

I have been hit this week as well old birds though. Sparrowhawk took one off the house roof as they came down from excercise and into next door's garden. I had to get over the fence and chase it off. A s i went to pick the bird up the bl**dy thing hit it again right in front off me. I tried to get it but it cleared off the blue cock then took off and the hawk appeared hard on its tail and they took off over the neighbours house and I never saw either of them again. Youngsters to wean this weekend and it will be a nightmare trying to get them out. Paul.

Hi Paul, We get a lot of sightings up here. There is a hybrid cat which is claimed to be a cross between a domestic cat and the Scottish wild cat but they are all black. Some have been found dead, farmers have shot them and some have been caught alive. there was massive hype in the mid to late eighties and they were all over the local papers. One was caught alive and taken to Kingussie wildlife park. There have also been some really good books written on them one partiular written by a woman near to here where she actually had two given too her and they bred in captivity. Really good read pm me for details if you are interested. Paul.

It is now about 25ft. When I raced before it was over 8 miles from my house to the loft/allotment. I dont miss that journey. Paul.

When I originally raced in Forres when I was a boy and still at school ( not that long ago ) the only race point I never won from was Doncaster 299 miles. I then moved to Aberdeen and the first time I flew it I was 2nd club 18th fed which I was delighted with as it was my bogey racepoint. I then went on to win from doncaster ( which was now 260 miles ) 4 years on the trot with the same bird. I quickly started to like the racepoint strangely enough. Paul.

Alec, It will be my first year back racing after 9 years and to be honest the race I am most looking forward to is the first youngbird race. I cannot wait to see birds coming from a race again and getting back into it all again. Anything else will be a bonus. Regards, Paul.

Well done Adrian great gesture. I know it was a wrench parting with some of these. All the best, Paul.

Vic you are off on a tangent. And nobody claimed to be 'super'. All I said is that you can win and not have to kill without cause. Paul. -

Vic the difference is I dont need to tell the world about it but that is maybe down to common-sense and intellegence and not the need to appear tough. . -

I cannot believe in this day and age that so called fanciers would come on a public forum and say it is acceptable to kill perfectly healthy birds in the nest in the interest of winning a race. If you were as good as you claim you would stagger your birds in order to cover races. How many huntsmen do you think now regret there carefree attitude to foxhunting? The politically correct brigade are onto fishing now and how long until they target pigeon racing? Not long with some of the cr*p on here, we all need to make decisions now and again but we dont need to shout about it and turn it into some macho competition! Paul. -

Pot eggs for some youngsters for others ( always single ). Some birds dont race to eggs, some dont race to youngbirds, some race driving ( let the hen sit take eggs away ). I know at 15 i wouldn't have been happy killing youngsters in the nest. Not meaning to be critical but there are many roads that lead to Rome. The most important thing at that age is to enjoy the birds not dread committing some distressing act. Just my humble opinion, Paul.
