  3. yes i agree ,, they havea lot on their plate, and can be a thankless job , as no matter what decision is made ,, it wont please everyone, ,,,, only one thing, i would rather be a race controller today ,,than, say 30 years ago,, [more modern technology now, to try and get things right]
  4. congrats rick,,,lets hope your up there in the fed as well ,,,well done
  5. well done daran great flying,, also good luck to all who competed in todays racing ,, and hope any sunday libs are successfull
  6. congrats to the winners and prize winners ,,looks to have been a good race
  7. yes ,,amazing to watch . some camera shots
  8. who knows jordan ,,,your parents may change their mind b4 next year and let you keep racers only,, but in the meantime do as they say [maybe in a years time youll change your mind ] i hope not,, and all goes well,,,. if you have two sections only, you could keep the 5 tumblers along with the racers, for your first year, in fact they could be" used" to single rear a racer ,letting the racing pair single rear a yb therefore taking less out of themselves,i,e for racing but, as a young lad your first year will be great experience for you, and youll pick up a lot from there,, best of luck and hope things work out for you
  9. congratulations ,,,humble ;D youve did it again ,, really well done, 4 races 4 firsts 1 2 3 last week ,,,1 2 3 this week, some going mate [will you still speak to me now ;D ;D ;D]
  10. ;D ;D ;D weather is that changable, can now see the base of the pentlands, but very low cloud and still raining,, it seems to have been ok at thirsk with a s w wind so in my opinion if they get a good start theyll go through anything ,,the pentland race controllers are very wise indeed with plenty experience
  11. still very bad in the lothians , misty , wet, and lt east wind ,,[still cant see pentlands] 11am
  12. back on this side of the forth,,,,,,,,,,LOUSY rain ,, mist ,e wind,,,,the pentland hills are just at the back of me ]one mile] cant see them
  13. ;D ;D ;D another one i forgot was , i hired a car to drive down to a top flier in new ollerton ;D ;D ;D[many yearsago , when i had a wife ;D ;D[ we stayed for a few days , and on the day we were to go home , he kindly gave me the eggs off his best stock birds ,, marked all the eggs, then packed them in a loaf of bread [ i had plenty doh in those days ;D ;D ;D],,put the bread loaf in the glove compartment, travelled home with the wife , drove straight to the car hire firm as my hire time was near up,, handed in car then got a taxi home with the wife,, left the flippin half loaf in the glove compartment ;D ;D ;D when i got homei immediately phoned the firm , instructed them to take a loaf of bread out the glove compartment,,[and be carefull cause theres pigeons eggs in it ;D ;D ;D]i got a taxi back to get the loaf ,, and never could forget the receptionists face ;D ;D ;D saying, weve had some odd things left in cars , but never this ;D ;D ;D very true ;D ;D ;D [actually churned out a lot of winners out that half loaf ;D ;D ;D] my secrets comming out now ;D ;D ;D
  14. another dead true story, there wasa brand new partership in the club , one had kept pigeond b4 the other hadnt , both worked for same bakers shop driving , ,,differant shifts ,,when one finished his shift [the one who never had birds b4 ] was told by the other ,,to take the ybs to portobello beach [as he was going there] ,,,,,,,,,well he did take the yb,s , ;D ;D ;D,,,,,,,out the nest pans ;D ;D threw them up on the beach ,they just came back down on he sand , so he brought them back home , saying to his parter ,,"they would never had have made it" ;D ;D ;D quite seriously ;D ;D ;D
  15. i woundnt train on a friday [usualy ] but with widowhood cocks would excercise them round the loft , early morning , ive found that if i could get them into the bath ,they sit in the boxes and rest better during the day,,i had a monitor tv in the kitchen and could watch these cocks sitting at peace all day , until they saw their hens b4 basketing
  16. the bhw vet[ deceased] advocated one half to one cubic metre air space per bird ,,,,depending on ventilation
  17. had a friend hand in droppings to me last night for testing ,, put poly bag in a brown envelope ,,,marked VET ;D put my repeat prescription for doctors in brown envelope ,, marked DOC ;D,,, swithered where to go first,, decided docs,, put the wrong envelope[the drppings ;D] in the post box for repeat prescripts. inside the docs surgery ;D ;D ;D had to ask the receptionist [she didnt know what was in the envelope,,good job ;D ;D ;D at least it was all well sealed ;D] to retreave this envelope for me ,,,,,,,when i told the vet ,, he nearly had my prescription he just phsl ;D ;D ;D
  18. hi ,, the" term" we use as racing the natural system , is usualy racing with pigeons flying naturaly, mated etc ,,,opposed to widower hood [separated] or roundabout system[ separated cocks and hens]

this would be great to see on video,, i should imagine it would be some sight ,, :) ,,hope all goes well, but weather a bit iffy
  20. old fashioned term used " going light" by pigeon men,, not such a disease. and covers a multitude of ailments,,,, but most common causes are cocci, or worms or canker ,,or the dreaded e, coli , yb sickness , usually when they get to that stage they suffer from secondry infections also,, this can be common in the odd yb when they are just building up their immunity,, and have never found any yb that has been "cured" of a set back,, to be of any good .only my opinion.
  21. i should think , sue, that an open loft would be ok, as long as theres plenty room, the young birds will not be long in getting out the other birds way , a few extra perches for the yb,s and theyll soon "book" their own perch , i would leave the boxes open [the mated ob,s will stay mated ], and let the ob,s sit on dummy eggs ,, the problem would be that , when the ybs are a bit older theyll try and mate themselves , and look for a nesting place, any ob,s not mated [ie spare cock or hen ] would eventualy mate with a yb [when old enough ] you would just have to play it by ear and keep your eye on things,,good luck :)
  22. this is an injection ,, jordan,, there are many places you can but this, one of the main ones are,,,pigeon pharmacy...... 0870 225 4777 e, mail sales@pigeonpharmacy.co.uk www.hyperdrug.com
  23. ;D ;D ;D best answer yet ;D ;D ;D must have got a tip from the embassy ;D ;D ;D good lad tony,, nice to smile a bit [ nearly fell of my seat pmsl ;D] i have actualy found this to work , it can make the bird hold a flight just a bit longer , but never really found this to be of any advantage to the bird at all.
  24. a pigeon is not fully mature untill its two years old,, to win at the distance they should be honed carefully untill their that age , which ever way you choose to do this, thats if you want to win at the distance ,, sprint races differant entirely
  25. no, your not the worst fancier at all ,, your honest,, i really feel for you mate,, i agree a car is handy,, and you need time,, [valuable time] but do not fall in to the trap of 100 birds , for whatever reason you had with these losses , you would have had the same reason[ worse] with a hundred ,, its obviosly your on a right downer, and no wonder , but stick it out my freind , never give up, keep tying ,, trying to remember the old printed card" dont quit",,,success is failure turned round about,,, and we would have won if wede have stuck it out,, i really wish you the best of luck , put this down to experience [ this has happened to a lot of fanciers , that wouldnt admit that ] pick yourself up,,dust youself down , and start again ,,but never quit really wish you better luck mate , im sure youll make it in the end
