remember,,,auld reekie ,, probably one of the best nat birds in the uk at the mo. 1 nat 2 nat and so on ,, winning a lot of cash on the way [thousands , w, kinnear and son have refused mega bucks for this bird ,,,,,,,,never raced as yearling??
-
its a long season,,,,,,,theres a differance in the way you treat yearlings , if you want them to win at 5 to 600 miles as 2, 3 yearold and upwards,, and rolands quite right in my opinion ,, pigeons hate east winds,, [ you have to think of the future, not the saturday comming,,,,and yearlings are better with the sun on their back ,, i have found this to be true in my experience , but every one to his or her own way :)
-
that says it for me ,, you can learn more about the birds themselves , that way ,, then decide later ,, a few years from now,, what sysem you would want to do , what races you would like to best at etc , but patience is the game :)

;D ;D ;D some really amusing posts , difficult to pick any better than he other ;D ;D,, still cant help smiling at vics [just the thought of the knickers on the line ;D ;D ;D] i remember as a lad , splitting the tenis ball and putting the rubber in, throwing as hard as i could throw, it landed in the most unkept garden of the neighbourhood [a jungle ;D] never found the ball or rubber to this day ;D ;D ;D and got my blessings for rummaging in the mans garden ;D not as good as vics but never the less true ;D ;D [you got a minute a mile running time,,roger bannister hadnt even broken this record at that time ;D ;D ;D]

congrats to tammy on winning his club [flying well ;D] and same to wiley ,, good result
-
absolutely topping flying ;D ;D ;D as per usual ,, makes you think of the old one, " is it man or pigeon" i think youll agree its both,, one without the other is not good enough,, and must admit theres not many that can win from 60 miles to near 600 miles,, which you have repeatedly done,,, top class flying , would match anyone in the uk :)

good lad fifer,, all back weather here at the moment is bucketing with rain and blownig a gale ,, so it says a lot for the bird getting through that

in my opinion, many many differant ways,, first of all if the bird not in tip top condition its a nogo,, every bird is an individual , some fly better to one way,, some another ,, there are differant race factors , i,e long races , short races, , in some cases ive shown the hen on the thursday , and not on the friday,,[ sent them calm ] but if i wanted to win the" first few races" and forget about the rest of the season , i would train well , friday, would show hens leave half hour, lib them one by one from the garden , each one straight in to loft , then basket them again leave again for half hour then take them a 3 to 4 mile toss , single each bird up [they would be used to this b4 first race] there would be a bee line home[no circling] [the necklace system ] as soon as you see the tail of the one youve let off, let another off and so forth, these birds actualy race each other as they see the one in front , in the sky,, let them in to the hens on return,, basket them for club, AFTER putting black cover over basket to settle them again for half hour [5 grains of hemp in box thurs, same friday,, have used this method with 4 cocks won 4 races, then stopped them, [till the next year ] this , then allowed me to start my main w,hood team, treated in an entirely differant way??starting in may

as wiley says ,, how do you know its not hurt, could be lack of calcium, [but doubt it] cant see lack of water doing this , bird would drink b4 this stage, could be bumble foot could be paratyphoid could be paramyxo needs a vet to look at it good luck

youll probably find it is the ulna bone which is broken on the pigeons wing, allthough repairable to a certain extent ,unforunately, the pigeon would not be able to race and win again

this happened to a forum member a few years ago,,,,,but the bush estate is a massive estate covering many differant vets and differant complexes [including the dick vet, which is the dearest] the vet im talking about is the scottish agricultural college [s,a,c,] dr bryn tennant[ of the s,a,c,] is an expert in the avian feild and gives honest free advice and help ,, a droppings test is £16 and a complete post portem is £27

do the members think they should be vaccinated every year ,,,,,or would a half dose do the job as ob,s ???? my thoughts are that theres big money in this,,, yes they need vaccinated as ybs but not so sure a full dosage as older birds is needed
