timbarra,, if you read my post i didnt say i used this theory,in fact i said i found this to be of no advantage,,but i allways proove things for myself b4 i comment,on them youll see this on my last post on this subject its really just a discusion on theories ,,,some right , some wrong,,,some downright crazy ,this is really the gist of the thread

yes , so do i ,,the weather here today has been dismal,to say the least, weve had a full day of mist ,rain and very cold n,e, winds,,,,,,, so lets hope the sunshines in face it with a grin, smilers never lose , and frowners never win ;D ;D ;D ;D nearly burst in to song their ;D ;D ;D

congrats on your results thunderboult,,,,i think the point i was trying to make was that the pigeon doesnt know the distance your going to send it , this feeding may well be fine ,and suiting you , but i beleive in the further you send the bird the more you have to feed for the race,,i.e. the high protein races are the 5 to 600 mile races , the high carboheydrate races are basicly sprint, adjusting the feeding from say 100 miles to 350 miles, and you do find individual pigeons prefering individual grains , which may not be beneficial, as i said , as the bird doesnt know how far your going to send it , but your results have been very well ,so the old saying goes,,,never change a winning system

my own opinion on this ,, there is a vast differance from a bird flying round the loft for an hour enjoying itself than a bird flying an ardious race .at speed this bird is using body reserves which need to be replaced asap ,, birds comming home after a fairly hard flight and using stress up abnormally in basketing and traveling,, allways have loose droppings ,, loose droppings usually indicate that there are toxins in the body, [for whatever the reason] i have found that giving them ordinary milk [half milk half water ] helps enormously to get these droppings back to normal [off course there are other ways too] really it only needs tried on half the returning birds to see the differance,, as one of the last poster says that blue flesh is as symtom of respiratory , this could be answered as a yes and a no , as blue flesh could could mean many things ,, one thing , the birds not in the best condition,,,,,,we all have differant fads and fancies ,but my own opinion is that milk or , glucose or honey, or even , sugar , all aid to a quicker recovery. p,s the white top on the droppings is there p

i agree with wiley, in sprint races if the birds were hopper fed , they would only eat the grains they wanted , i would prefer to feed handfull by handfull to make sure their eating the full mix i wanted them to eat,,, differant for distance
-
for sprint or early races would prefer a loft facing east [with windows] early morning sun without the east wind blowing in the front,.. for distance racing would prefer an open loft colder and facing west , for birds to come in to condition later as the season warms up :-/ [sometimes ;D]

if you look at the ratio of white birds sent to a race in the uk compared to other colours ,,the odds are against them ,purely because their out numbered by most other colours, but there have been a few good white racing pigeons,, white ones , not my cup of tea, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder
-
my opinion would be to hold them back [and hope :-/ we can get a bit sun b4 next thurs. ]

we all know that a pigeon has 12 tail feathers ,,when the tail is closed , one feather is usually showing [there cant be a middle ],,,but why is it that some have the left feather on the tail showing as the top feather, and some have the right feather showing as the top feather ???

i like the idea of a dog whistle ,ive never tried it, but im sure the birds get used to yourself and your voice [even the tone of your voice] and the old feed tin there was a chap i remember, used an old brass, hand school bell , it worked fine, but it woke the neighbourhood up , the neighbours didnt complain about the birds ,, but they did the bell ;D ;D true

tovo universal food [low iron ] i think is danish? its mostly for fruit eating birds , i think your better sticking to ordinary pigeon vits
-
could be many things ,,as little as a bit of grain stuck in the roof of the mouth or in the throat [lentils bad for this or linseed etc] if its coughing and not sneezing [sneezing a sign of respiratory] at worst it could be canker or aspergilliosis or there could be more reasons , i would ask an experienced fancier or seek vets advice
-
i dont think theres such a person as an expert pigeon racer, ,,there are better than others, thats for sure , , you say is it looking after them right , i would say its finding out if your looking after them right ,,,,feeding them correctly,, again its finding out through experience [as theres as much differant feeding, as differant races,]training them well ,again what is training them well? do we know? luck on the day ,,this counts ,but the birds have to be right good stockmanship yes plays an important part, [youll notice farmers are good at this,i,e sanderson a ,farmer, twice winner of longest national over 600 miles second as well, among many more through the years] i think thats what makes pigeons so interesting ,searching for a system and birds that will win ,and breed winners,,,,,not quite so easy best of luck in your search
-
yes, very well done indeed ladies ,,,a great effort for a deserved charity
-
yes, white pigeons can be just as competative ,,if you get the right winning blood lines to begin with
-
i dont think pigeons need their claws cut,, unless older stock birds that maybe dont do enough excercise,,,,,some pigeons naturaly have longer claws , but it doesnt say they need cut.
-
have raced darkness yb,s in the past ,,same time as natural yb,s ,,,,,fearing this to be true,, nat yb,s[ cocks]stopped at 150 miles ,the rest went on to the bitter end,,,as yearlings and older birds found no differance whatsoever,, [only i had more cocks ]

itll all depend on the circumstances ,,, but illegal .. remember a chap putting ml instead of f bird was disqualified ,, but member able to race ok
