  1. brilliant post roland ;D ;D ;D and so true
  2. ;D ;D ;D you never mentioned that one ,ben ;D ;D very happy birthday ben ,, and think your show was a great birthday presy
  3. this was exactly my point ,, i dont say a bird carrying nest flights as a yearling is no good ,, i am saying , moreso with carrying the last one unmoulted flight, as a yearling can win and win well,[which happened to me, but at any given time when the bird becomes super fit , it can and will [as i have found out to my disadvantage] throw this last flight whilst in a race basket ,often at the same time in throwing its second flight often returning with 8 flights ,,all i am saying is this has to be kept in mind and watched very carefully, as, if this does happen the pigeon in question will be at a great dis-advantage , this usually happens the fitter the bird becomes
  4. bens results [dont get big headed now ben ;D ;D ;D, only kidding ;D]

  6. i have a pair now tractor boy ,,,van whites, whites ;D ;D ;D true
  7. good pigeons come in all sizes shapes and colours , there have been many a white champion pigeons [remembering theres less white pigeons entered than other colours ] did jack adams not have a champ white one,? virgo, a white one ? in my opinion [after what i witnessed last week] if mr hawk wants his dinner , hell have it ] to update you on this , a batch of all coloured pigeons , many whites included i saw the perigrine attack many pigeons knocking them to the ground [see other post] the pigeons that were killed all looked dark pigeons from where i was standing,
  8. yip, i would go along with that it then becomes a personal sale without any undermining interference on the forum i.e, that if the fancier in selling, requests this.
  9. i had two pigeons from stu, and must say , the condition of these birds were fantastic
  10. great to see a young lad putting in the effort you have done ,, and in a most interesting way good luck ben
  11. oh, sorry stu malone ,, meant to say , i had two beautifull pigeons from you , well worth the price i paid , best of luck stu
  12. yes i agree also albear, but also in asking any questions in their real name , as there are many "alias,s" which will spoil things for all concerned [if they simply just want to , for spoiling sake , cant for the love of me see why, but seem to have some sordid sense of humour ,knowing full well their under an "alias",, good luck in your sales albear , even a free ad ;D ;D ;D one of albears pigeons took a good position out of a snfc race , this year same goes for valance lofts,, best of luck [im sure you will agree , we could do without the spoilers ]
  13. very well done ben, and congratulations on doing well in the show and found that a great idea , showing us your video diary , great to see something nice about fancier/pigeons ,, good lad ben , long may this continue
  14. i think its shocking that in this day and age , a dis-abled pigeon fancier, in a wheel chair is being discriminated against by able bodied members about the use of an ets , if any of these so-called members pack in , because of this , i would simply say good riddance to them,,,, ,shocking.
  15. this is the topic
  16. could members please post as per forum rule "members should post in a way that is respectfull to others" please as we will lose posts and spoil thread ,, thanks
  17. yes white logan, its very easy to pick up this in a different veiw, but the above posts by wiley and glassfeather have explained very well , pigeons will have the same amount of feathers , but different texture feathering , it would be very easy to pick up on pigeons need less feathers in a hot country , but this is not the case , the difference is the different type of feathering or different texture of feathering that nature has produced in these , say, exotic pigeons , we now try and , in fact" use nature" to selectively breed types of feathering or feather texture for our own uses , be it showing or racing , it is really a very interesting subject for the likes of us in the uk , as we have so many different weathers here [to say the least ] not just one feather texture would suit us here , even theres a big variation in weather, temp etc from the far north of scotland say, to the far south of england , so even in a small ratio in brittain we would need [or would have ] different textured feathering that would suit the area we live in , but then begs the question our birds would need to race the length of this difference of weather , which is why, i beleive we will get different textured feathered pigeons , that would suit different types of races , again , selectively breeding for exactly that i,e a different type of pigeon that would win ,in a 5 -600 mile race in a warm, dry south blow home wind, than a race where we had the opposite kind of weather , so in a way we need birds with different type feather texture for different type races or with the feather texture to suit the race ,
  18. with prizemoney and pool money this race has prooved a great success for many years now, and a lot of doubters wrong the total pools and prizemoney is staggering , many thousands of pounds , as a matter of interest the temp last xmas race was higher than the first actual fed race in april good luck to all who enter
  19. i would prefer winner to winner, at any chosen type of race , but if a cock will not take to a hen right away , it wont be forced , ive often found in the past that many of my winners have been bred by just love matches , since pigeon racing began , to my knowledge , no one has built a pair of pigeons together knowing for 100pc certainty that they will produce winners , allthough we,d all like to think that in my experience pigeons will win, if its in them to win, providing the management suits the bird and fancier, winners will and often do come in all shapes and sizes , as a young man [last week ;D] i used to love showing birds , racers , i bred these birds to try and produce the perfect speciman , i cleared the boards in all shows ,,,then my racing declined , it was then i decided to breed on performance intuition, and experience and not by looks or handling , i then won many top races with pigeons exactly like myself ,,,ugly ;D ;D i must admit it is very nice to see a good winner handling and good looking , but not all are like that,, for as many years , the farmers have went to a market and tried to buy the chicken that lays the biggest egg, the cow that produces the most milk etc etc , to this day , these good farmers will tell you , they cannot tell this by looks alone [or trying to handle a cow ;D] most winners come from a line of good pigeons irrespective of looks , that is my opinion anyway ;D for what its worth ;D
  20. thanks glassfeather for your reply,, quite fascinating ,, it just goes to show there are as many different type of racing pigeons, as there are races i,e what may suit one bird, may not suit another,,,,great stuff
  21. very well and kindly said roland
  22. this to me is a very fascinating thing about pigeons,, the genetics , trying to breed a pigeon [whether it be show or race] to bring out the trait you want , the other thing glassfeather may know [ill ask anyway ] would certain different colour pigeons have a different feather quality, i remember brian may discussing this in my house , about the" buff " type feathering and the ordinary feathering [as in canaries e,g] he used to call them" silk" feathered or "satin" feathering , the "silk" one repelling the water more than the other??
  23. hopper fed ;D ;D ;D
  24. i think it is very difficult to get the ideal pic of a pigeons eye, really needs the eye sign photographic lads for that but good luck to you ryan , hope you can manage to enter a good show ,,,,and win another sign of the times re, shows , allthough there are still some, most clubs allways held club shows , there was a time up here you could go to a show around the midlothian area allmost every day of the week, not so much now ,, pity as it was a good crack and get together and very seldom any arguements
  25. maybe just co-incidence but the late great jim williams [hard nat tours winner fame etc] had many of these silvers , yet as a lad can never remembering him sending these to races , but they certainly bred for him [i had birds from him which produced the odd silver and chocolates , one bird the" old meally" SU 63, 28228 won many times up till 9 y old at over 500 -600 miles , this bird often bred chocs , none of these chocs won , but they bredwinners?? im quite sure like alf baker , jim williams new his family of birds
