  6. if racing pigeons now, i would prefer to buy direct from proven winners or prize winners whether it be studs or racing fanciers ,,, but not the ones that are umpteen generations down from winners [off course you can still be lucky with these , as pigeons is a strange game , there are never any gaurentees that ,you will win with any pigeon , or any so- called breed
  7. "why are the belgians way out in front of the uk",,,, are they?? i firmly beleive that if you put some of the best belgium fanciers , in either scotland or ireland , they would not beat the good fanciers of their respective country, especialy in long distance racing ,,,, these are the places youll get the best distance birds and the best fanciers , to fly them , over their own individual terrain,,, off course the same would be so, the other way round,, so to me,, you cannot compare , it would take a different sort of bird and fancier , to win these 5-600 mile races here , than in belgium only my opinion .
  8. just been looking at one,, secret of champions 111, [young bird racing] very interesting and well filmed
  9. a terrible thing to happen , the p,b fund can help , as with other fancires as well, but a terrible thing to happen to this older chap,, just hope he recovers, and battles on

  12. i think i mentioned this on the another post "true athletes " , the other day ,, great going
  13. just been looking up "the falconry centre" at hagley, west midlands ,, this falconry seems to put vultures and buzzards etc under" birds of prey" if anyone has a tame perigrine with arthritis ;D try one of these tablets on it , about three times a day,, ;D see if it would cure its arthritis ;D ;D
  14. yes, this is true,, but i think there were pigeons flew into scotland from barcelona , well over 1000 miles ,, must have been roughly 1,200 miles , maybe even more,, the brittish barcelona club?,, i remember my brother joining this for me about 40 years ago ;D but at that time , i could hardly fly 300 miles ;D
  15. just been reading about this,,, seemingly 95 p,c, of the vultures in india , have died off , by eating animals that have been treated with this drug [pain killer and anti-inflamatory] [ dont know if a vulture , would come under a bird of prey , i should think it would?? as a buzzard does ] wonder if this drug [diclofenic] would have the same effect on other birds of prey??
  16. i also beleive this , i beleive there are pigeons that are better over a certain terrain ,,,, i,e if i wanted to win in scotland i would much rather buy a bird from a top scottish flyer ,,,,,,,or if i wanted to win in belgium , i would buy off a top belge flier ,,,,as the post says ,,,horses for courses
  17. some age, nearly thirty ,,, i had seen one living at twenty two years old , but i think" old man" will take some beating

  23. hi old yellow i had been advised at one time that this tablet would help an older bird in an arthritic condition ,,,,,,, i wouldnt and didnt try this ,,,,,,,, but he fancier who advised me said he had tried this and in fact it helped the bird, , i just wondered if anyone had any info on this common drug ?? either helping older arthritic birds or how pigeons would cope with this common tablet . it seemingly kills the vultures by attacking the liver [after eating prey, containing , diclofenic]
  24. the non-steroidal anti-inflamitory drug " diclofenic" [which i have been prescribed ,in the past for an arthritic desease i have,, a,s ] seems to have caused a deaths in many countries, of vultures and other birds ,, this has been prescibed to cattle etc for various ailments, and as a pain killer, which have been eaten by these vultures. this "diclofenic" is a commonly prescribed drug in this country for arthritic conditions,,, i just wondered if this drug would have any effect on hawks ,or birds of prey, as vultures could be termed as birds of prey??? any info
