just goes to show that pigeons never cease to amaze you i had one with one eye , this bird off course never raced but flew out with the rest , bred winners and lived to a ripe old age

very interesting topic on silvers etc i often wonder how louela selectively breed these yellows , in there hundreds , makes one wonder that by selective breeding [ie going by genes etc] you must not only be able to breed selective colours but also selective traits i,e in racing pigeons , very very interesting indeed also love the pics of glassfeathers , some weird and wonderfull breeds and really stunning pictures

just looking through the posts , this may well be true , as there wasnt a pigeon to be seen their today , ill be travelling that same road quite often now , so it will be interesting to see when and if these pigeons return ,allthough they were ferals , there were many different colours , so i would imagine there would be racing pigeons among them [if i had been younger and fitter i would have searched these fields ] -

yes i do remember your post ch pd , this was something similar , these perigrines looked like the were def on the job , like acrobats and like lightening , i had never actually saw a hawk swooping up the way , they were going all ways , and really looked as though they meant bussiness, yes i remember your post well [it should still be on, way back, can you remember roughly when you posted it? -

ryan , i dont dispute what you say , but not all birds will hold these flights, this pigeon im talking about had won exceptionaly well up to 300 miles , was well pooled for the 350 miles , came home late throwing its second and last flight in each wing at the same time ,,, in the basket [3 days] homed with 8 flights on either side , the bird that did come held its last flight but moulted its second flight , so its worth the watching , beleive me , [and my pocket ;D] -

i also have been having bother with my computer, [im no expert atall on these ] but i made a deal with tiscali, involving stepping up the mps ? supposed to be faster it now keeps cutting off the internet intermitently, when it cuts off , i pull the usb? lead out the modem [black box marked "sagem"?] then after a bit plug it back in and it goes ok for sometime? would i be better buying a new lead and a more modern modem? -

many are like this just now , buttermilk, baths will help speed up the moult of the last few flights with lights on for an hour or so, but racing them whilst yearlings , when holding on to their last nest flight , i have found to my great disadvantage,,, not good , an exceptional yearling cock holding his last flight threw this last flight , same time as his second flight [back late , carrying 8 flights on each wing ] really unfair on this bird , in my experience it is better to have them fully moulted , if not very lightly raced till the end of may. -
cant see any rule to stop it [as long as its healthy] its merely maimed , mind you , i couldnt see one winning a national worth reading the story and poem of cher ami,, the war pigeon, its on the racing pigeon board under" sticky" a great poem about this bird with one leg saving many lives

marvelous to see this great side of the sport,, the pigeons in these pics are stunning ,, well done to all involved

most treat for cocci , canker and worms ,,and recently, and more common now for paratyphoid , i think the reasons would be obvious ,, to hatch and rear robust healthy yb,s

i shall be passing the same way today,, it will be interesting to see if theres pigeons there , as theres been hundreds there every day -
i should use boarding first , i once had pigeons in a metal roofed loft , the water dripped off it [condensation] and was really unsatisfactory , i bored holes all the way round the top of the loft, vented all round the bottom , put in two towel rails , this helped reduce any condensation , but was never satisfied with this loft [which was actually an old coal shed], i had other lofts at the time with good ventilation , and used this one as a spare

travelling over to old mums through a country road [langloan rd , for any in this district] with fields on each side , i allways have seen many, many pigeons scouting these fields , well over 500 , on this occasion all were flying in one batch , then , split , then went unusualy high ,,,,,,,,then i saw the perigrines , two of them , these hawks were just playing with these pigeons , some were grabbed in mid air ,then let go, [only to drop to the ground] this pair of perigrines must have killed about 5 pigeons ,the pigeons were all over the place ,yet didnt go away, some flew in to some trees , some down to a house in the feild , they then went to the feild on the other side of the road , then the same was happenning there , the perigrines were catching them then letting them go , some were killed others managed to fly off again , all this happened in about 15 mins , if this were a fed liberation , i wouldnt have thought many would have got home , i cant say ive seen anything quite like it , not one of the perigrines ate one bird on the ground, they just drifted away into the distance . leaving the odd little batches flying off , does anyone know of this type of behaviour in these type of hawks??

watched a cd last night [or rather bits of it ;D] on yb racing , frank tasker and many others mostly belgians ,, i noticed that no one mentioned treating for cocci?
-
as i mentioned b4 roland ,i also beleive this ,but in saying that, only the odd lice, [its normally ailing birds that are covered in them ] i beleive a lot in nature , and my thoughts are that the odd lice on a pigeon [which you will allways find if you look hard enough] prompts the pigeon to preen itself, i,e prompting it to use the oil gland on its back , therefore keeping the oil gland producing plenty good natural oil, and in turn making for better feathering ,,,and more waterproofing its the mite that are the killers of condition i beleive ,that even after using these smoke bombs , you will still find the odd lice on the birds , but these bombs seems to kill most other nasties i.e. mites .moths, etc

i think this post has been well put,,,,lessons can be learned and should be , this usually solves problems without aggro. we can only put problems right on this site , we have nothing to do with other sites

aha,, secrets comming out now ;D yes ive did this with success ;D even a yb,s under a w,hood cock 2 days b4 the race , never seeing his hen for 4 weeks , if the old cock takes to the youngsters [3day old] when let in to his nest pan side of the box , their never that far away in a distance race , but you have to keep changing the yb,s as the cock wont have" milk" but hell try his darndest to try ;D

dont think the odd lice will do much harm really [youll allways find them on the birds if you really look, or bring them into the heat, ] but the mite , their the big problem , especialy in the heat of the summer well summer time anyway ;D ;D,,,,,,,,the old adage about seeing spiders webs in the loft is actualy true,, these kill the mite and prooves your loft is dry ;D,,,,,,,,but i think the smoke bombs would be a little quicker
