  1. i have found this in the past, even with older birds that" know the game" but have found that these older birds ,if raced celibate , will come good at the distance , when paired

    smoke bombs

i havent used them b4, but reading this post sounds like good sense ,, two jobs for the price of one as getting the ventilation right is just as important as keeping it free from any insects that might have an effect on the birds ,, but liked the other post ;D ;D "remember and tell the neighbours first ;D ;D" i think it would take a wee bit of explaning to the firemen ;D ;D ;D , but sounds good to me
  3. i personally cant see any advantage whatsoever breeding yb,s to race ,, in dec what your ringing [if you manage to get foreign rings ] are really the currant years, late , late breds , most of these go down when trained 6 months later
  4. i also agree with this , yearlings can be scatty mad at times , they definately need paired , and bring up at least one youngster , i think they need this to have a proper bond with box and hen
  5. this looks like it may reach the political thread soon,,,"lanarkshire"
  6. welcome to the forum gail
  7. a great offer from a very kind gentleman
  8. yes these were topping fliers [im not sure if" clive 76" came from clive yates?] i know the wooffs very well, [was speaking to charlie yesterday co-incedence or what and know les and his daughter cheryl,, at about 14 years old she could run of every ring no and every performance of each bird [off course thats a while ago now ;D] quite amazing for a young lass though the whole family are pigeon orientated , even nephews etc but like all these fliers above , could really race pigeons ,,,les, won the car with" bonnie blue" and charlie and russel won the nrcc from frazerburgh with" clive 76 " [this birds fed posititions have to be seen to beleived ] all indeed great fliers in the hottest of competition [porter and richardson included]
  9. still time yet gladdo,, send your entry in
  10. i remember something like that, something about recessive and better for breeding ;D,,,,think its in levis book ,,,, its all in the genes ;D ;D ;D
  11. get your enry in ,,,or rather keirnan im sure he would be in the running its just putting together a good write up for him , how he started , how he works withe the birds , anything at all thats in his favour , remember its just not results but overall effort etc , with keirnan being so young , has to be in the running,,, good luck keirnan [and proud mum ]
  12. please send in your entries , and all the very best to the winner , please read the above , so really there can be a good few entries , lets hope so anyway
  13. had tried w,hood cocks as just celibate cocks , never rearing or sitting ,,big failure ,,,,,,,,,,,,,but when these birds were paired for the first time that year in june , got them well from 5-600 miles dont think tony c :B :B needs much tweeking at the season hes had ;D ;D ;D
  14. quite a few going back to the same breeding birds, main ones to start with were ,," the beer"and "orleanski" , there were many more ,, porter and richardson bred the famous bird" feathers" down from these lines and charlie woof raced the famous "clive 76" again bred down from these lines , bertie fletcher of ireland , bought this original pair from wildemeersch himself
  15. charlie,s brother, les wooff from staindrop,, also fantastic flier [brothers usedto swap their champs for breeding]
  16. a cock at 10 years old really should be filling his eggs, maybe worth a visit to a good avian vet, you have the lighting , that should have helped ,, but after trying most things allready mentioned [try selenium and zinc] , i would tend to think there was something amiss with the bird, vet would be your best bet now
  17. had these pigeons ,,found them exceptional up to 400 miles,, had one win from 505 miles , these birds were from wooff bros , of new ollerton , charlie , allthough getting older now still topping the fed regular as he has done over the last 30 odd years [i think he had the first seven in the fed one week , this year ]
  18. absolutley fantastic ,, a lot of work for ally mac , a very kind gesture , also great to see the good side of many fanciers , look forward to seeing phoebe,s progress. lets hope and pray shes doing well,
  19. my advise would be,, forget about the " breed" try and get birds bred as close as possible to birds that have scored at that distance

  22. happy birthday " auld jeff"
  23. the market is still on,, but as far as bus trips im sure members would advise if you do go have agreat time
  24. bought one for £5 tuned out champ ,,,,,,,,and had a great time ;D
  25. i remember brian may talking about left handed birds and right handed birds [north rd south rd] ;D ;D ;D true,,, 12 feathers in their tail ,, either way you look at it , the middle one has to overlap the other,, if you look at the birds, many are different there cant be a middle tail feather , so either the left one overlaps the right, or visa versa,, ;D ;D ;D i suppose its a matter how you dress ;D ;D ;D
