i think we can be to" exact " on the qualities of maize ,,or indeed any other grains,, it often changes from harvest to harvest,, i,e content ,, moisture content etc

very very sad,, may he rest in peace

i found it shocking for kenny ,, the man has won well, been good hearted,, tried his utmost for the sport ,, only to be ripped to bits ,,,,,,,,and the outcome , another good pigeon fancier lost
-
well done mick

there are black lumps and black lumps,, some can be "protein lumps" as they are called,,, why i dont know,, as all the birds in the loft usually have the same amount of protein fed to them :-/,, the other lumps can be od varying types [i would get my birds tested for paratypoid just to rule it out]

dont pack in,, as said b4 the ups and downs of pigeon keeping,, but a happening b4 was a freind of mine ex-kelso[ and ex game keeper] had family of weasels come through a missing notch in the wood at the back of his loft , took the heads of and killed umpteen pigeons ,, he fixed the loft and the problem

as far as barley goes,, the malting barley is best,,, but personally would not give this , at least on its own,,untill the last flight is completely grown,,, in my experience, barley can produce dry feathering whilst moulting [depending off course what you mix in with it]] but for me,, plenty good protein feeding untill the last flight is grown

most things in pigeons, are often decided with a few die hards on either sides,, it is definately up to the members to decide on this , and in my opinion , the members should think for themselves ,,,and really that means , be counted ,, and vote at any meetings ,,,in my opinion .........................,rpra/snfc opens up old wounds , this should be sorted out first ,, as this is simply loosing fanciers on either side ,their , just simply packing up :-/, [fanciers that have kept pigeons for years] due to the aggro, that can often go on , so, in my opinion,, any organisation loosing members ,, should be resonsible for the pigeon fancy,, and its future,, as in the main ,,, no fanciers - no organisations ,,so, in my opinion pigeon fanciers should be attracted to the sport in general, rather than be frightened off by arguement ,, which is happening , if members of the snfc/rpra could manage any compromise , in my opinion would help a dying sport

in many years of keeping and breeding pigeons , i have noted that a lot of the lofts that have suffered from paratyphoid , in the past ,,,,have been using floor dressing or lime ,, can this be dis-advantages,, in the worry of contracting this dreaded desease ?? or am i just being over critical,, but noted some time ago , a very top flier loosing most of his birds [ well over 100 ] to this desease ,used this lime floor dressing ,, but have noted more since then, using this dressing, have cotracted the same ,,, can this be a factor by any chance?

would i be right in saying the product for humans [easily purchased from chemists] called LACTULOSE which is the treatment for constipation is is a product derived from LACTOSE ??

please remember that pigeon basics is" aimed at a wide range of audience ",as per rules,, this off course includes kids etc [have a great time at blackpool ]

i have had pigeon dropings tested quite cheaply from a doctor [vet ] from the s.a.c.c which over the course of time got to know him very well,, a gentleman and a top government avian vet, who will spend time and talk and answer questions ,,free ;D
-
i usually steep them in the pigeon bath,, with jeyes fluid [not with birds out ] then tip the remains over the slabs near the loft doors and all around , ive often used a watering can with jeyes fluid all round the loft outside ,, i find that most fanciers keep their lofts clean but forget about the outside loft vicinity,, where most of the cocci oocysts are and worm eggs etc ,, think we all tend to forget this ,,,,,,,,,,i have recently done this with virkon,s on a regular bases

since that someone knocked on my door,, prev post ,, in fact brought bad news of family illness , so just trying now to catch up on this thread ,,, first of all out of larries post ,, lactose [even allthough in yogurt ], will produce loose droppings in fact its lactose that is given to humans to releive constipation , and as larry says " the sugars in yogurt can be counterproductive [i would go as far as saying ,,,would be ] if a problem with e coli exists , as these bacterias feed of the sugars" e,coli, possibly could be secondry infection to many illnesses in pigeons , where immune system is lowered, and this in itself causes severe problems , as far as the post on vets ,, rubbish in my opinion,, like all "jobs" some are good at their jobs ,, some are not ,, some in it for the money, some not ,, a good avian vet,, like a good doctor , cares deeply and thoughtfully . will catch up more with this thread as its very interesting indeed ,, maybe just a point for vic,,this thread will be far better on this topical posting,, as on the main board it would dissapear , very quickly with the amount of post being posted on the main board , so maybe better on "sticky" as its there for keeps ,,,as paratyphoid seems to be here for keeps
