  1. gareth is kirkintilloch near aberfoyle or callander? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  2. got to agree with you delboy, politics not an issue john felt at only 43 it is time for his young family to get his full attention, 4 years at the helm during one of the worst periods in time for the shu could have broken lesser men! john has certainly steadied the ship, maybe through time john will come back as the sport in scotland has much need for sensible leaders. :( :(
  3. john barlow stepped down today as shu president, the new president being ian noble of ayrshire.

    snfc

more to the point anyone know the distance from ypres to west central scotland? :)
  5. must agree wholeheartidly, although the big problem being the lack of birds going to the 500-600ml events in scotland and having the above programme would put a 500ml race before the gold cup, great in the halycon days of 70s and 80s but not so sure today. :) :)
  6. i think the surprise was more the fact that the mealy cock had taken two top section and open prizes in scotlands blue riband race from rennes 540mls,and with all probability still fertile i think you would agree tammy the bird was undervalued ,and as i said in an earlier post if the bird had scored for other possibly more prominent fanciers would have sold for considerabley more money.
  7. very surprised and disapointed to hear of the clearance sale of john hunter of airdrie, john had a smashing record at the distance in recent years, handled the mealy cock a few years ago certainly a quality bird and a snip for the lucky buyer,as seems to be quite common with todays fanciers john did not get the recognition he deserved maybe winning with so called unfashionable birds the reason thus maybe why the low prices! :( :-/ :-/
  8. "winkie the pigeon that won the vc" read this in one of the boys annuals, think it might have been "tiger & scorcher" great story of a bomber going down in the sea and all the crew saved thanks too "winkie". think "winkie" was a dundonian? :) :)
  9. would be more adventageous i think to send your yearlings to falaise lanark fed & snfc with a strong entry from the west section, probably less birds from the west at arras snrpc. :)
  10. nearly all my yearlings fly to the coast 380 mls, and have had some smashing results with yearling hens in particular, john bosworth of elphinstone will send his to the last 500ml snfc race if fit and well and more often than not will time them! :)
  11. good call lanarkshire fed, should have happened years ago. :)
  12. have used oyster shell grit for 30 years, good enough for the great eddie newcombe good enough for me!
  13. nantes 618 mls 4 sent timed 3 on the shift in just over an hour. magic :)
  14. carl have fed 60% barley for years starting november till pairing up mid feb, cocks & hens exercised alternate days flying 2 hours at a time handle great, winning some top prizes showing at the big shows around c/mas time.
  15. following this forum for quite some time and recently becoming a member i cant believe the nasty attacks between members of this site, particulary snfc & snrpc, have listened to the propaganda about how wonderfully well the snrpc are doing and how poorly the snfc are, surely today people can exist in their chosen organisation without the need for ridicule,it does look like scotland can sustain two nationals so whats the prob? :( :(

  17. :(well said gareth, you use the word replaced is this the case or has joe stepped down either way he will be a hard act to follow, not so sure about scott gibson when maybe scott could do more by doing less, not the correct decision i fear at the present time.
  18. :-/cricketer the joint convoying i think is only for the 600ml race, the rest of the countries in the uk find room for more than 1 distance club why should scotland be any different, yes i agree with some of your other points regarding politics etc but we in scotland have made our bed and must lie in it.
  19. johno what about my points regarding an upturn in more fanciers competing at national level and also joint convoying, still reckon you cannot compare both sets of figures,ie payout of prize money etc. :) ;)

    WEATHER

at last a lovely day here in the west, had a wee walk up the campsie hills then paired up the birds this afternoon, daylight at 5.30pm. :) :) 8) 8)
  21. johno have noticed in my area west central scotland more fanciers competing at national level than ever before be it snfc or snrpc, irrespective of previous form or experience, i think the split between fanciers in scotland however strange this may sound has had a positive effect on national racing.your facts regarding the financial affairs of each organisation are a wee bit one sided, apples for apples not the case here,a massive difference between both organisations wouldnt you agree, as for joint convoying why not if it suits all parties and reduces costs for the fancy in scotland. :) :)
  22. im afraid amalgamation is a no no with current trends, fanciers seem all too happy to form smaller feds with the first signs of any probs, maybe with lanarkshire and midland going the same route starting in the dreaded solway we could join up sharing the costs?
  23. wings o4 u mention an east coast club, what is the format and where is the hq? :)
