  3. cheers gezza will call you later.
  4. thanks for that pigeon_man i see from the website it is owned by the holyhead mongrels.
  5. does anybody know where you report a youngster from the europa one loft race. do you report it to the one loft organiser or to the union from which the ring was issued. i have a welsh rung blue hen which arrived here yesterday with a green ets ring on and a europa security stamp on her wing, must say she is in poor condition no body weight.
  6. i would agree with chris, if you have done your homework and decided that this was the fancier who had the birds you wanted and he gave you the pick of them i would ask him for some help in choosing the probable best breeders or racers depending on what you are after, as he would know his birds better than anyone.
  7. Maybe that is the problem andy, we only talk about a convoyer or controller if we have had a bad race. when have you heard any of your club or fed members say well done or give praise for the good races we get. we all expect a good race regardless of conditions but it does not always work out that way. For as long as we charge unrealistic birdage fees we will not be able to pay decent money to the convoyers. I think you are correct as most controllers do the job for nothing, but there is still no excuse to throw birds out into conditions where they have little chance of making it home. We in our fed here in Glasgow are very lucky to have a good controller who makes a lot of checks and obtains the best info he can before making decisions, to say we are lucky to have him would be an understatement. we had a joint convoy with another federation last weekend and they controlled the race which turned out to be a shocker in terms of returns as the weather on the line of flight was very poor, I for one called the controller for allsorts but would i do his job...............the answer would probably be NO. I know that sounds like I am being a hypocrit but i dont think i could handle the responsibility of the other members birds.
  8. There are one or two organisations up here in scotland who have a similar scheme, where the members pay an agreed amount with their fed fees and this covers them for all their birdage costs for the season. the benefits are the club or fed can then budget as they know exactly how much revenue they will generate for the season. makes the secetary`s job a bit easier also as there will be less cash to handle on marking night. If you fly a good team each week it would work out good value and likewise if you only fly a small team it may work out a little more expensive. still costs less than the cost of a first class stamp to have a bird transported from one end of the country to the other, surely not a realistic price.
  9. to be honest rose the guy does have a good reputation with his liberations but yesterday i think he took leave of his senses. the weather was terrible up here and you would not have put your birds out for a fly in it let alone race in it.
  10. Glad to hear you all have good returns as we got slaughtered yesterday from catterick. we were controlled by the south lanarkshire race controller and he made an a**e of it to be polite. not only did he ignore the advice he was given by our controller he thought he knew more than the weather forecasters. approx 80% of the convoy missing so i hope he sleeps well tonight safe in the knowledge that he has destroyed the plans of many a fancier, me included.

  16. Fully agree that ali is a top flyer but also a top bloke who will help a new start or novice with advice and encouragement and to me that is what makes a top pigeon man.
