    Eagle Owls

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld199798/ldhansrd/vo970731/text/70731-01.htm Looks like thee was some thought about reintroducing them a wee while back.
  2. got this of Maclaughlin lofts web site, "I hear all the time that it is better to let a hen mature before breeding her. This is nonsense. Nature will tell you when a pigeon is old enough to breed. If a hen mates and lays she is mature enough to breed. Breeding young hens or cocks is not detrimental to the pigeons in anyway. The first two eggs a young hen lays are pure gold. If she is ever going to raise a one in a million champion it will probably be from one of the first two eggs she lays in her life." Ive got some latebreds from Frank that are going in the stock loft for next year, any thoughts on the above article?
  3. Don't ask we'll never know right enough Andy
  4. I can see he is well fed up with RSPB but there is nothing to suggest he would have any support for us. Unless ive missed something?
  5. my father had a wind generator on his roof when I moved the loft to the plot behind his house, lost two doos that flew into it. Cut the poor things in half. It wasn't a great success anyway so we took it down. It certainly spun a lot faster than the big ones though. I took a walk up to a wind farm not far from here and had a wander about looking for dead birds but never saw any signs, also spoke to a pal that works on them and asked about birds but he had never seen any signs of dead ones either.
  6. I suppose im trying the same here Owen. I have in my stock end now 3 birds that were my most successful for 3 years into Oban getting on the score sheet, and their parents. Just need to find a few more like them and hopefully things will improve for me The proof it works is one was bred by another after I stocked her.
  7. Ive some cracking new additions to the stock loft for next year from the mother of Franks national winner Lexi and from a daughter of her too.
  8. Never caught it last time Andy. Just shows how easy to mess things up right enough.
  9. Remembered seeing this on TV a while ago, thought it was really interesting how quickly selective breeding can make such huge changes.
  10. Lot 2 160 Done thanks
  11. Lot 9 £40 Done thanks
  12. Can we really make a difference to the humidity with dehumidifiers etc when lofts are so well ventilated?
  13. Chris one thing for sure, try and visit a few lofts before you start building your own. I didn't and ended up changing it again and again. Your welcome to pop in here any time. Al.
  14. No probs Chris. Whos your family in Appin, my daughters boyfriend is an Appin lad. Ruaridh Black.
  15. It will be real hard getting doos to fly into there Chris. I am moving a few pairs out the stock loft that you are welcome to. Thing is I am moving them out because they haven't bred me anything that survived trying to fly into Oban so its not likely they would for you. But if its just to breed some young birds to have a bit of fun there would be 2 pairs your welcome to.
  16. Have you got a loft sorted Chris? Where exactly are you? I was passing your way a couple of weeks ago comimg back from camping on Skye.
  17. Hi Chris. Im afraid its not easy flying into the north west. I am in Oban and fly with The Alexandria club which is a 75 mile drive each way for me. There is no club any further North that Im aware of. Its a hard game getting doos to fly into Oban, will be even harder for you Im afraid. Im still enjoying trying though and I have a few birds that have raced to me and Im trying to build a team around them now. If I can be any help feel free to give me a bell 07733017776 Al.
  18. Hi Jim. Crikey, I thought I had it bad. Theres no clubs up this way im afraid, I fly with Alexandria which is a 75 mile drive to the south for me. There are no clubs north of me on the west. He would probably need to go east for a club. Where exactly is he?
  19. Plot is all cleared of whins now. got our planning and building warrant for house (on the top of the hill). We need to cross a 12" asbestos water main to get to plot though and weve been 18 months trying to deal with Scottish water. They are a disgrace!!!!!!!!! we will get there though.
  20. Messing about on google earth and found loft with some of my doos flying, taken 3 years ago I think.
  21. It was a lovely service Frank for a very special person. You and Graham really did him proud. It is an honour to have known him and to have had him as a friend. Rest in piece Frank. You will always be in our hearts xxxx

    Woody

What a cracker, would be interested to hear his breeding too. Al.
  23. We were so glad to see you on Saturday Frank, all of you. My race days just wont be the same without talking to you, telling you about my doos that haven't arrived yet!! Wee Frank will need to take over!! I was looking at some pictures last night from the SNRPC presentation we were at and thinking about you wearing the carpet out trailing backwards and forwards collecting all your prizes, I lost count how many times you were up . Will never forget your support Frank, and I don't just mean with the doos!!!! I think I knew when I first bought a YB you had put into a sale that you would be someone I could get on with and by *expletive removed* that turned out to be so true. Our thoughts are with you and we are always here for you, Carol and the boys. Your big daft pal. XXX
  24. My Sabina and I had a few hours with Frank yesterday when I was picking up some Ybs from him. We were made as welcome as ever and watched as his and young Franks youngbirds arrived back from Otterburn to get 2nd club. Was great to sit and blether and talk about the doos and we had a few good laughs. 2 of the ybs I came away with were from the mother of his National winner paired to a cock I bred and sent down to him a while ago. These will be going straight to the stock loft and I will fly their young with great pride. Thanks ever so much again Frank. Al.
