In my location I would never face the loft East as in winter the wind from the East is bitterly cold. A number of years ago I sent to Weymouth a yearling race (June) turned out a cold wet miserable day with an East wind never saw a feather and all had flown the program. Location for loft - as near the house as possible the birds get used to you and others going in and out and are more settled.

i know it's sad to say but with the unusually high fire raising and burning down of lofts there could be a lot more fanciers in the UNC it's a terrible way for a fancier to leave the sport after a lifetimes work wonder how many potentially new fanciers have been put off with these outrages. I sincerely hope the culprits are caught and justice handed out (By the law or whoever :)

Wind over water is stronger than over land as there nothing to break it up probably sucks in everything in it's path. Over land caused basically by heat from the earth rising upwards water tends to be much colder so same type of thermals may not exist.

I took the chance last year to fly over the whole area and it looks ok from the ground but up there it is mountainous the up- currents were terrible chucked us all over the place it will be a hard fly for the birds it's hard enough getting them into the West then you have another 75 miles hoestly best of luck if you decided to try it
