  1. Good name that . No relation .
  2. You are correct Wiley 500 mls is 500 mls my only input is your birds are meeting our terrain at the start of the race when still fit where as in my area they are hitting it when tired and mostly into a prevailing west wind ! I am not taking anything from your excellent pigeons but maybe that is why yo are more likely to get sprinters from that distance than we are . Jmo Walter , I have been 2/3/4/8 in the west sect from the nationals but my best open position is clermont this year 104th so maybe you are correct ! But like yourself will keep trying . One of the best distance men in the west told me to go back to beans as a staple diet ,Dave delea does the same , the idea is to find out if the birds have it in them and when you get them from 500 mls that is the time speed them up with more fats than protein . I love the fact that we all have different idea,s on the subject.
  3. Since I moved to Greengairs my ambition is to win the sect/nat from the gold cup and am making progress so this year I went to the very best performance distance lofts in the uk and have some cracking birds for the future . When obtaining these birds I asked all about management and feeding ! What some of these guys feed is so diverse it is un real they go from Gerry plus /all beans /80%peanuts/80%maize ! Now we have some top distance men on here ie Del/Walter/Dai/ and loads more , I would like just for interest what these guys think makes the perfect feed for getting them on the night from 500/600 mls . I know we have had these things before but am interested on why you feed what .
  4. You sure lol
  5. Before most nationals my birds throw up and most races but they are not ill , my belief is that they know what is coming and are getting rid of excess or are nervous . It may be some are not right but have seen some top blokes birds chuck up in baskets while at marking so not something that worries me .
  6. You guys are the tops having to travel to and fro to lofts in this crap weather I take my hat off to you (don,t were one but you know what I mean )
  7. Racing loft 15ft ,stock in garage 10ft from back door but the distance birds are upstairs in garage and hate having to take the water up there as I,m getting a bit old for the steps lol so don't change it every day as I do others but all my results come from up there so canny be doing them any harm . My dream would be one big 50ft loft .
  8. One of the very very best pigeon men in uk . Rest in peace .
  9. I,m sure you would be welcome in Airdrie or clarkson .
  10. Think you mean 1inch mesh ! A female or juvenile weasel could get through maybe ! But hope not as that's what mine is made of. I take that back just read up on the weasel and if very hungry they can get through gaps as small as 10mm , unbelievably eh.
  11. If you have foxes hanging around they can easily rip open the thin mesh ,double it up at the bottom metre to make sure .
  12. Met the arrogant basteward at ikea in Edinburgh at bird of prey stand and had to be dragged away by my missus as called pigeon fanciers misguided , hate the man and will not watch anything the dik is in on tv .
  13. It's good to read about how doos are prepared for the target races and even better to read about when it comes off, I have been racing in the Lanarkshire area for 5years and have learned more in that time from mistakes and disappointment than all the other years racing with my brother in East Lothian ,(he was the brains) . Like you Walter I have sent very good pigeons to 500 mls never to see a feather but soldier on I did also like Steven says I planned out which birds were going to which nat,s only to go down a few weeks before the race . A.blue cock called young Leb changed all that ! Trained hard for Eastbourne came fresh as paint so left him on open hole and let him do as he wanted sent him to clermont and just knew he would not let me down and timed him on the worst weather I ever seen , He may only have been 4th sect 104th open but when I collected the clermont trophy at Airdrie &District presentation last night that pigeon has changed the way I view my birds as not just pigeons but true athletes that should never be underestimated . My job has just started but now have something to work with . All the best of luck to Walter and everyone who has the same dream Gold Cup winner. Ps my second pigeon was sitting on the trap at 5.15 next morning 2/2 500 mls that will do for me .
  14. Normally it is straight forward but due to rail works there are no trains from Newcastle . Will give it a go next year .
  15. Was ugly grieve there last night ! Good to see old mates bishop and wardhaugh attending , well done all .
  16. Part of journey is by bus and the through trains take almost 5 hours ! I phoned and asked for the quickest route and that's what I was told .
  17. Anyone going to this show the premier inn is good to stay at with plenty food places next to it and a pub next door also only 15 mins walk to race coarse . Would be going but for rail works means no trains direct from Scotland .
  18. Airdrie &dis presentation is this Friday , Like to go along and see what the trophy,s look like lol . When the macs joined Airdrie a lot thought they would clean up ( no affence to the macs great doo men and good workers for the club ) we had 9 different race winners this year so well done to them all.
  19. How does that affect the sol way birds as they only have one race over 500 mls . Scrap that , I just looked properly at the answer.
  20. Probiotic /yogurt for a few days helps if there is anything .
