  1. There are times when we ALL send bird(s) knowing full well that it doesn't have much of a chance of winning the race, ~I am not talking about unhealthy birds, but birds that are being prepared for other races later in the season, such as a distance race, I personally would be worried if one of my water birds won from 70 miles, as I would be wondering if it had peaked too soon I would nevee send an unhealthy bird and anyone that does should be banned - any wonder we have so many losses ??)
  2. Not necessarily Ben, the lofts can be wonderfully dry, but if the birds are put under stress the Cocci count can rise (and the canker count for that matter).
  3. I'd go with that Wiley - could be an number of thingsm better to be safe than sorry than just blind treating for something that may not be there in the first place............
  4. We're going tomorrow - got club agm today
  5. We tend to pair all our birds up ourselves, we have quite an inbred family and I wouldn't want to get too close - we breed off some of the race birds but the others sit for the stock birds - If I was just racing I would let them pair themselves.
  6. With the old birds we race widowhood (Cocks & Hens) right from 73 - 527 miles. With the young birds we race them on the darkness and keep the sexes together - next year though we are going to race the young birds on widowhood also
  7. Were going Sunday, looking forward to it and meeting up with a few pals.
  8. We're going to make a few minor tweaks - as we always do every season (irrespective as to whether we have had a good season or a bad one). If you don't move on every year - you will fall behind
  9. Top book's the Flying Vet and also Fit to Win. I must have read both about 5 times - really informative and straight to the point
  10. We mainly use Malt Vinegar now, but occasionally potassium permaganate....
  11. Me and my dad are - can't wait. We go on Thursday evening and com,e bacl Tuesday morning
  12. Think I would go with that. Possibly one of the best fliers that has ever existed.
  13. Cider Vinegar - all year round Hormoform - when racing and breeding Gemthepax - when rearing Johnsons Tonic - once per week all year round
  14. We give a good moulting mix, and plenty of linseed - plenty of rest, and baths when they want them. We are on allotments, so lighting is out of the question, but I wouldn't use them either, I would have thought that would slow the moult down. Ours always have a good moult and I don't think we have ever had them hold flights into the following year
  15. We pair everything up the monday after the Blackpool Show. The youngsters are put on the darkness when the clocks go forward, they are taken off aobut 1st June, which is about 9 weeks or so I think. Never have problems with the moult either.
  16. A lovely gesture JakJak - and well done to the lucky person who has now got him.
  17. Quality pigeons - If I were looking for stock I would snatch your hand off at that price - a real credit to you mate

No problem mate I Know there is a show at Dortmund, that I have been told is equally as good as the Kassel one - is that the one in November? I know the Olympiad is also in Germany in January 2009 - I stand corrected, but I think that is also in Dortmund.

Think you will find its the 8th & 9th November mate - the Dortmund show is completely different show. - The Kassel show is always around the same time every year.
  20. John Ward of Sheffield knows alot about this strain. (i know he used to have them). He is on here as J V Ward - PM him, I am sure he will give you the information you need.

Yep me and me dad are going this will be 8th time we've been, only missed 2006 die to my daugher being born. Absolute fabulous show, can't get the bargains like you used too though, although stuff is still cheaper than here.
  23. It depends on how many pigeons you were putting in it. I would say if you put 5 - 6 pairs maximum with good ventilation.
  24. Well said Dazza - All the best with them mate, I am sure you will sell them all.
  25. You don't know unless you try them ;)
