  1. Agree with you Mr Moore (casbri) - we raced natural upto 5 years ago, (and still won on that system) then moved slowly onto widowhood when we felt the pigeons needed to, not as much work needed on widowhood, definately the system for people who are working or their time is limited - I would also race then hens if you can manage to get them out also, we have found that our widowhood hens need plenty of training.
  2. Don't really have a problem with ETS. BUT - wouldn't want to be the only member in the club with it. BUT - If someone wanted to use it in a club that I fly in I wouldn't object, afterall they have to get the birds back first before clocking them ;)
  3. Hall & Horner fly in Sheffield. Good fliers who do well in the National Events.
  4. Hi Dogeon, Not all Janssens are Roland Janssens - The bulk of the Janssen Bros pigeons in this country is what are raced very succesfully by thousands of lofts. Roland Janssen only shares the same surname. I feel you can;t go wrong with a Janssen based pigeon - problably 80% of birds racing today have the Janssen Bros birds in them.
  5. Thanks for the information lads much appreciated ;)
  6. I would always try to keep it as natural wood if possible (the Janssen way) this lets the wood breath. - If I was to paint the loft, I would paint it a shade of red (Red Cedar) this apparantly has a calming influence on the birds (alot of poultry farmers use it to prevent fighting and plucking).
  7. Can anyone tell me the dosage for Flagyl Liquid 200mg in the water. I have use this many times but my mind as gone blank re the dosage :B :B Thanks in anticipation
  8. Just thought I would give an update re the pigeon. Jimmy Bulger picked it up this morning and rang me to say the youngster is flown out and got a small injury, but should be fine and ready for travelling (by courier) in 3 or 4 days. :) I phoned the lady who reported it and she is made up that the bird should be ok. Thanks very much again Jimmy - I owe you one. Simeon
  9. Hi Guys, Many thanks to you both. You are a credit to the sport. Cheers, Simeon.
  10. Hi Jimmy, Thanks mate your a gent. I will get the ladies address and PM you the details. I will also put my phone number on. Many thanks, Simeon.
  11. I was wandering if anyone could help me On Tuesday I lost 4 latebred young birds off my loft in Sheffield - I have had one reported today by a non-fancier in Litherland, she found the poor little bugger floating on a piece of wood in the canal She has taken the bird home with her and put it in box with some water and rice/lentils etc. She thinks the bird is injured as it couldn't fly Is there anyone in that area that would be prepared to collect the bird from her, so we can at least give it a chance and also show the non flying public we do care. I will reinburse any costs incurred. Please contact me either on the site or by PM if you would be prepared to help me out. Many thanks in anticipation. Simeon Turner
  12. I would say that you can't really go wrong with any Janssen type pigeons or Staf Van Reets upto 200 miles. I agree that most breeds will race upto 200 miles with no problem depending how you feed them, but I don't think you can go wrong with the strains I mentioned, provided you go to the right source of course.
  13. Having a guess your friend may have a problem with paramyxo or parathyphoid. (can be similar symptoms depending on strain). As he had the pigeons tested yet, if not I suggest he gets the droppings tested, throat swabs and blood tests from a renowned vet, look in the BHW you will see a poultry vet in Retford, Notts. I have used them before, very quick and cheap service. In the meantime, isolate the birds from the others and keep the diet light, with electrolight in the water.
  14. I agree with SAMMY, get the droppings tested before you do anything - do not just treat blindly for this, that and the other, get them tested to tell you what the real problem is and what you should treat with..... In the long run you will save money doing it this way and elimate the problem that is there, not something that may or may not exist... The pigeon weeklys have a number who advertise and will get the results to you the next day.
