  1. Well Stuart, we would definately put something in - good on you for getting someone back into our wonderful sport
  2. Good article Stuart, I totally agree with you. When we are looking for introductions to the loft we like to put something in that is a similar type to ours, as mentioned in the previous psot 'gut' instict comes into as well. I suppose the inly 'fad' I have different is the tail, I like to see a slim feather width tail with plenty of coverage near the rump of the birds, also the tail doesn't move either up or down when in the hand, basically the bird just sits their in comfort.
  3. Providing everything is ok health wise then I think it comes down to how much you value him, if he doesn't fill after the third time, I would be tempted to race him and see how he goes on the road. But, I would definately check his health out first i.e. testing, as soon health problem that you cannot see may be in there which could make him infertile either temporary or forever!
  4. Nice to see a good ending to the problem, everyone happy you can't beat it ;) ;)
  5. Just out of interest Ben, how many pigeons have you got? are they are Racing Pigeons or have you got a mixture?
  6. Bri, I am going to the spring fair at Doncaster new weekend, I will get you some from there if you want. Simeon.
  7. I am, it is only about 30 minutes drive from where I live
  8. If it was me, I would race as many of them as you can, give them a real good test the good ones will come through, then I would pair best to best whatever strains they are, you will then get a basis of a team together, if they are any good you can then start to in breed and line breed to keep the family together.
  9. Try Retford Poultry 01777 703011 - Libby Harrison Without testing the droppings you can only 2nd guess what it is. You can get the droppings in the post Monday and have the results Tuesday - and start treating the next day. What are the birds droppings like? I agree with the articles on here, I would guess either a Calcium difficiency or Paratyphoid. With regards to Baytril, it doesn't strip the birds of all its immunity, it isn't 'Chemotherpy' it is a synthetic, agreed it does strip all the bacteria out of its gut, but you can easily put it back with probiotics or even natural yoghurt. Baytril is good when you want to use it for specifics, ie treating a problem that requires antibiotics to cure. Wouldn't use it for routine precautionary treatments.
  10. Frank does send a fair few, but luck at the class of competition he is in, NRCC, superb, he doesn't get just one on the result he gets loads, top flying by a top man, totally dedicated to the sport
  11. Very true words John. If you don't luck after these people then you are struggling, afterall any club is for everyone not just those who win
  12. If it isn't too late we would like to offer a pair of Janssen based young birds from our stock loft, they should be ready sometime in May. I can assure that whoever buys them will not be disappointed. ;) I will provide further details later, or the successful purchaser can chose their own. We fly as S & J Turner in Sheffield.
  13. In one fed we start at 73 miles, both old and young birds. The other fed this year we are starting at 108 miles, again for both old and young birds.
  14. If I were looking for 600 - 800 milers from this country, I would without a shadow of a doubt go to Louella, for me their Jan Aardens etc are the best in the world, asbsolutely beautiful specimens. - I know they aren't exactly cheap, but the quality is first class.
  15. I'll be right behind you Mr Moore ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  16. If anyone does have any, then make sure you ask for a good price off casbri, with the amount of money he's got ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  17. Great news mate, hope he goes on and does you some good It is times like this that keep you buzzing, the challenge is when things don't go so well, but we hang in there, we have to ;)

    alf barker info

Hi Mate, Try J V Ward on this site. I know John had this strain and knew a hell of alot about Alf Baker. I am sure he will point you in the right direction.
  19. Cracking set up mate and some lovely looking youngsters 8) A credit to you
  20. Quality pigeons there mate - somebody is going to get a proper bargain ;) sorry to hear that another member is leaving the sport ??) ??) ??)
  21. Thanks John, you will have to show me them sometime - I would be interested to see what they are like.
  22. Hey John - Happy New Year to you and Cynthia - all the best for 2008. Robert Stoddart that was the one I was trying to think of, remember when I was a kid my Grandad talking about him - wasn't he the one who had an illness so he couldn't go in daylight?
  23. George Litherland Albert Babbington Geoff Kirkland
  24. That's what I was thinking Sammy, it is also possible for lumps to appear on the neck of pigeons if it is the dreaded Salmonella / P:aratyphoid - I would monitor the pigeon over the next few days and see if it improves - definately don't put it in your loft just in case, and throughly was your hands after handling it - you never know.
  25. We had a couple of our cocks both 1997 birds that hadn't filled in 2005 or 2006. Went to the vet and told them, they gave me some fertility tablets used for poultry, they are called PRO VIRON - you give 1/4 tablet per pigeon from the day you pair up until the 2nd egg is laid - result for us was both cocks filled every egg and produced winners again for us as they used to ;D ;D ;D As for the source of the tablets try Retford Poultry, I think they have an advert in last weeks BHW ;)
