  1. Was kinnae thinkin that masel ALF,but we've all got our own ideas a suppose
  2. Linseed oil is good, but its best kept in the fridge after opening and don't use it after 6 weeks
  3. One of the first things I was told when starting up wi the doos is-theres training pigeons and theres straining pigeons I've no got the hampers out yet,but good luck to those that have
  4. It's a lovely part of the country a few days a year
  5. You should try flying doos to the top of a hill in Avonbrig Andy Our loft is metres away from the highest point above sea level in the Falkirk district. When it cold its cold. Always 3-5 °C colder up there than it is in Falkirk town
  6. My '1010' cock is the real mental doo.If hes no on his nest hes usually ootside.Even he has given a few days this week a miss
  7. Ours have the option to go out everyday, but its only the real nutters that venture out in the weather we've had this week
  8. Aye its no been overly pleasant up at ours this week Rab,especially now the bit in front of the lofts is flooded after the JCB was fannying about up there. On the upside I've no had to put a bath out for them at all
  9. Three weeks back I'd a team of champions;gleaming and ye couldnae keep them out the sky. This week it's been a miserable looking bunch that are reluctant to go by the front door for more than ten minutes at a time. Some wind I've fancier friends down in Berwick who have an open race scheduled for next weekend.Have to admit a few weeks back I was a tad envious they were starting soon, but not so much now "Winds out the East, the fish bite least"
  10. Best of luck with the sale.Although I don't think much luck is needed when looking at the donor list Well done all involved and those who have contributed so far.The futures looking bright
  11. very good Enjoy the Corrie's reports a lot,it' s nice to see lofts in and around Lanarkshire get the recogniton their performances and contributions merit
  12. Agree with you wholeheartidly JADE and I regret posting at an ungodly hour when of unsound mind Apologies lads. The site has been ruined a bit for me recently and I hate to think I'd be ruining it for others. Best of luck with your 2013 campaign and I hope yees win the Percy Cameron trophy
  13. This one isn't from a fed lol.Its an independant maverick I maybe just heard what I wanted to hear as I'm not convinced by the Geraldy. Will send though if it's viewed as the most suitable by the commitee
  14. It's good there are options available, but I'm not entirely sure the above mentioned transport in the offer could cope with the birdage from Basingstoke,Maidstone and Leicester so although on the face of it may be the cheaper it in fact may not be lol Anywhoo there is a capable commitee in place and I'm sure they will do whats best by the club and most importantly the pigeons I apoligise in advance if I have misinterpreted the situation
  15. We will see what decision is made.I'm like you guys and would like to see what is best for the club. The cheapest option may not necessarily be the best
  16. Lucky you John.My mum went to see them at the Glasgow SECC two or three years back
  17. From this thread alone it seems as if people's perceptions of good standards are very different
  18. Thank your for the honest reply Derek I'm sorry if I've come across as critical of Geraldy. If people are happy to send in them and believe its best for the welfare of their pigeons then great. Its the crates that put me off. What puts me off even more is the attitude of some fanciers. When a good race is had,its very rare people comment on how good the transporation is.When it's a bad race from the same transporter all of sudden the transportation is un modern and a joke. The race that really got the fanciers backs up was of course Cheltenham(Newbury).I believe the losses/patchy times and the conditions SOME fanciers birds returned in from this race are very simple to account for and it has nothing to do with the transporter the birds were in. I think a lot of members are masking security issues with the birds welfare. What they really want is a different set up than we have now regardless, as they have/had suspicions over certain people.Of course we don't know who as they tend to speak in riddles and come the time when we were all looking forward to hearing the evidence and the solutions(SNFC AGM) this was not so much as even uttered.
  19. I'd like to see the club go with the Catterall spin off offer. I'd rather have our birds in one of them than a Geraldy any day. We are constantly told Geraldys are the best without being told why.To me they are no different when in motion to the traditonal transporter except from perhaps the crates being less comfortable and less 'durable' as far as I'm concerned. I suppose the main difference is in the ventilation systems when the wagon is stationary?? I won't say much more as I've never had birds in a Geraldy but a question to those members who have-Do you notice a difference in the condition of your birds on return compared to traditional tranporters??
  20. A special pigeon in the hands of special fancier. Its a great shame she met her end in front of the loft to a sparrahen. I don't think she was given the oppurtunity to fulfill her potential as a breeder as she was on wi a cock Robert didn't really rate as 'good enough' for her,but she was racing to him.In saying that I'm sure a son of hers bred Robert's 'Supreme'-twice 1st Section D and 7th Open in the Millenium Messac Gold Cup race. The apple doesnae fall far from the tree I'd heard Sam Ovens is still living through in the Clackmannanshire area, but I couldn't say 100%
  21. 1988 Avonbridge had the first bird into the fed that year from Rennes.Andra Lamond of 'Blue Power' fame I'm sure this is when Robert Cormack had his good hen 'Freckles' on the go-18th,12th and 7th open SNFC Rennes in successive seasons
  22. Been a lot of changes in the last 25 years, but looking at some of the information and familiar names you've provided not too many. A year to remember for yourself, lets hope 2013 is another. Thus far I find it hard to believe it will be a "good year weather wise"
