  1. Yer hopefully right Frank. Some of our doos have had more time on the wing the last three weeks than they had over the course of the first 6 races last year. Got 11 picked out to try and get ready for Alencon and they'll not see a race basket again until then. If all goes to plan of course
  2. I spoke to a friend down there around an hour and a half ago, he was just back from the transporters as he likes watching the libs when the North road guys are there. They were still holding on then. He said it was dull with a northerly wind and there had been showers coming and going for most of the morning. They were still awaiting news on their own birds getting up at Rivenhall with the UNC.
  3. I'll be sure to have the spotter plane on patrol and the snipers in position in case ye try to venture up this way The forecast is looking decent enough, fingers crossed it's a good race
  4. It's definitely possible, but it will depend on a few things-mainly how many Billy Bilsland fancies for the comeback race, Eh... I mean Newbury national Best of luck and I hope yous extend your great record in this race Fingers crossed it's a good race for all who enter and an improvement on last year.
  5. Who's loft are ye jinxing this weekend Davie?
  6. I've my fingers crossed Midland will have the Northwest fed to keep them company down the West next season, but as with most things in pigeon racing there are mixed views on the matter.
  7. I've always fancied a crack at North road, but the weekends clash with our two furthest fed races. Would really want to be sending something worthwhile to the Lerwick one and not just goin for the sake of it. Read about some of the past NFC Pau winners that have been raced out of Scotland 4 or 5 weeks beforehand. These are the doos Will have a think about it and talk to the boss over the weekend.
  8. Maybe need to be careful with them?? A few types of beans can be poisonous raw, not sure if these could be given to the doos straight from the packet or whether you'd be safer toasting them ?
  9. All depends on the where the lib sites are but it looks as if it's just over 300 miles from Lerwick to Avonbridge and around 15 miles short of 150 from Fraserburgh.
  10. You can get 250g packs of adzuki beans in Holland and Barrett for 99p They also sell grapeseed oil or extract in capsule form A dear way to buy it if you want it in bulk, would really depend how much of it you are after for it to be worthwhile
  11. Well done the John's and all the PB winners
  12. Had a hen out last night that's flown the channel three times, was glad to see her back this afternoon. Still got a yearling cock that I liked amiss and the bird that took 13 months to come home from Clermont
  13. well done Tam in a league of your own and a well done to Martin on winning the South section
  14. Happy Birthday Derek Hope its a good wan
  15. Everyone likes a tame pigeon, I've a blue hen here that sits on my head. At times though I can't be bothered with people, it stands to reason pigeons will be the same.
  16. The best pigeon in our loft is a grunter. I darkened her nest box two years ago and she has scored from France twice since. Amazing in as much as if you have a hamper full of pigeons(Unless you purposely try to catch her) she will always be the last pigeon you take from the basket. Another odd thing about this pigeon is the only bird she has ever shown any affection towards is her nestmate. They baffle you at times, but since this pigeon I have darkened all the nest boxes whether the occupants are wild or not and I think they prefer it
  17. Thank you all who have replied. Interesting posts
  18. Cheers to yourself and Mike for the replies. Interesting to hear about Dynamo and no doubt she is exceptional
  19. You've kept doos a lot longer than me Stevie It's something I've thought about for a wee while. I'm kinnae weary of using a lot of red band , hemp etc early in the year with doos intended for the nationals, but I once heard a top fancier saying the only things that will effect your doo's moult are nest cycle and the hours of darkness. Was after some views and experiences on it
  20. What are members experiences with the use of small seeds, oil seeds, conditioning mixes etc and the pigeon's moult? Heard some say their use can accelerate the moult and others say its nonsense. What's your thoughts ?
  21. yet another outstanding performance Well done Tommy !! Congratulations also to my clubmate Hughie Menzies on winning the South Section
  22. Been trying yearlings across the water the last two years. Only managed one on a SNFC result that was Clermont 2011 Will keep trying but found so far they won't beat any of the older birds we send. On the other hand getting themselves home in decent time maybe sets them up well for the following year as all our first birds from Alencon, Ypres and Clermont in 2012 were 2010 bred pigeons that flew Belgium or France in 2011. Will never know if they'd have still been the first birds to the loft if they'd flown to the coast instead as yearlings.
