Brilliant What a difference in the fed from this time last year. Well done to all involved and best of luck going forward. The biggest fed in the land fulfilling it's potential and on the road to becoming the best -

Pigeon Health Questions For Walter
Rooster J. Cogburn replied to andy Burgess's topic in Ideas & Theories
A bit of a different case Walter, but my dad and I heard news last week that knocked us a bit. The wee boy next door to the pigeon loft used to come over all the time, his mum kept worrying he was bothering us but she was told not to. He's a smashing young lad, very bright for his age and he picked out a pigeon he liked that we called "Robin" after him. Every time he's round he can pick it out the bunch no problem. He used to climb the fence and shout to see if we were about and if he could come over to see the pigeons, he'd sit in our feeding shed and draw pictures of 'pigeons'. Well we hadn't seen or heard from him recently and it was just last week we found out from a neighbour that he has been confined to a wheelchair. He has a problem with his hips, his parents are hopeful it's not going to be for life but it will be for the next few years. Put thing's into perspective a bit, when I see myself getting worked up over the doo's, a transporter or a race programme. -

Scottish One Loft Race , Discussion Thread,
Rooster J. Cogburn replied to blaz's topic in Notice Board
Leicester to me is the least credible race in the entire programme. How a race from such a distance into an area that covers approx. 150 miles top to bottom and approx 120miles wide in parts was even conceived is beyond me. Very rarely the odd bird or two bucks the trend, it's essentially a glorified fed race for members in certain areas. Newbury and Maidstone are a bit better, but again these races are predominantly one sided affairs, dominated by the areas that are hard enough to touch come the French races. Think of a fancier trying to win principle average trophies in the club, they could be hours behind before a ball is even kicked on a level(leveller) playing field-the cross channel races. Unlike you I was faced with a problem last year in as much as I had no other option other than Newbury to give our pigeons more than 3 or 4 hours on the wing that weekend. Fortunately this has been remedied by the fed this season As for popularity the interest is dwindling and as far as I'm concerned that point doesn't wash with me anyway, even if the races were attracting 5000+. Coldstream and Otterburn are more popular in our fed than Newark, Peterborough and Maidstone. Maybe we should make those the open races next year? Anyway I'm just joshing with you Hope you have a good season and enjoy the inland nationals You can say Newbury and Maidstone don't impact the channel race entries all you like. I am 100% certain if they were dropped at 2014's AGM every channel race would have a greater entry than they will get this season. As would practically every federations in the countries last three old bird races. -

Been over this one a few times on here now and I haven't changed my opinion. I think the SNFC inland races are a blight on channel races as well as federation inland races. As for it being selfish I don't believe this to be the case as if they were dropped I think would be of benefit to the vast majority racing in Scotland whether they be interested in inland racing to the coast or cross channel events. Have listened to a lot of the arguments for them and they could equally be described as selfish-some clever fanciers around who have a knack of making out certain things to be for the greater good, when really it suits their own agenda. Newbury was close to being on the way out at this year's AGM and I've a feeling it may be dropped for 2014.We shall see All I can do is stick by my beliefs,be they right or wrong. With this in mind I don't intend to support any of the SNFC inland races this season or in the future. -

Not a supporter of one loft races at all, but wouldn't decry people who like them and of all the ones I have seen I hope this race fulfils it's full potential and demolishes the YB nat and Inland Nat's out the water. It's about time the SNFC was rid of them -
Ye might be right there dms5686,a lot of fanciers in the section who start the racing with 50 or 60 doos and end up sending 1 or 2 to the Gold Cup looking to win a the national. The mind boggles Wouldn't say Jock Reid ,Robert Cormack,Davie Young,Tam Blair and John McNeill suffer fi this syndrome however and all of them have "only" managed 2nd Open-it's not easy to win a national here and as some say-Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live the world they have been given, rather than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It is an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It is a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing
-
Just got to live in hope Derek and try and make yer own luck. I always tell myself one day everything will fall into place for you and yer doos on a given race day. In saying that some of the greatest fanciers of all time have 'only' ever managed 2nd open flying into section D so it's a tall order indeed
-
I've said to my dad in the past whoever's next to win a national into Section D will be 1st and 2nd or Sec D will be 1st and 2nd. Only a theory and we will most likely have a very long wait to find out if it's true or not

A Corrie loft report on this partnership is certainly something I would read

Just realised this has already been mentioned Am away to ma bed

Its not all doom and gloom in today's papers Been told to check out the Times page 25-apparently a great article on man's relationship with pigeon and pigeon's relationship with man through the ages. That's what a lot of these nutters choose to bypass. Fanciers actually like pigeons and get very attached to them. These are birds that have reduced grown men to tears with their efforts.

Nice photo Thats a back you could carry coal on!!

A lot of top birds mentioned

I heard when this bird died it was stuffed and mounted by a taxidermist and kept in a glass case. Not sure if theres any truth in it?
-
Some doos Maybe someone could tell us a wee bit about 'Red Rock'.I was told he scored from four channel races in one year but not got any writing on it Is Greenlaw the place just before you hit Coldstream? Indefatiguable seems a suitable name
-
The prospect of pigeons scoring from two SNFC cross channel races in the same season interests me.The idea of one doing so three times scares me. Lady of Courage-a 1978 blue bar hen bred and raced by the Newcombe Bros,Macmerry 1980 15th June-27th Open SNFC Avranches(3639 birds),505miles in 10 hours 21 minutes 27th June-68th Open SNFC Rennes(7359 birds),543 miles in 15 hours 12 minutes 21st July-160th Open SNFC Avranches(5722 birds),505miles in 13 hours 54 minutes 1981 27th June-29th Open SNFC Rennes(6445 birds),543 miles in 17 hours 4 minutes(timed second day) 1982 12th June-27th open SNFC Sartilly(3926 birds),500miles in 13 hours 38 minutes 27th June-31st Open SNFC Rennes(5983 birds),543 miles in 13 hours 59 minutes 16th July-165th Open SNFC Sartilly(4821 birds),500miles in 13 hours 9 minutes SNFC career winnings £6977.35 I believe Victor Lough's "Rythm" achieved similar feats.Any more you can think of racing in the SNFC??

It's wonderful stuff We recieved the news of Elvis Presley's death last week and it's shaken the village to it's core I've seen a local fancier's pigeons do this and could never really work out why
-
It's also used as a paint binder and in the manufacturing of putty and linoleum

Think you've to be careful with oils in general not just cod liver. Oils do have their benefits and if ye want to use a lot I think theres a good product to use along with them. It's Neal Frazer's Supachol, think its probably very similar to sedochol. Blood purifcation, liver purification and it has a a high B12 content, which will work in conjuction with the minerals in yer linseed oil
