I think Mary Pryde has done a fantastic job in her time as SNFC secretary and is the best person for the job going forward, but I think this is a mistake. If rule 14 is looked at in conjunction with rule 10 it states:"For clarification only those within 1 in 10 in each section will Qualify for a Gold Award." This clears up Kyleakin's question as to what are considered prize winning miles. If it didn't then there would be no need for the first part of rule 10 to read: "A Gold Award or Diploma will be awarded to a bird which is a Section Diploma Winner (not a Section Position winner as published in result) in five or more SNFC Channel Races," The ruling could do with tidying up a wee bit, but even as it reads now the bird in question has not won a Gold Award.

I'm messing about with a wee write up just now on one of the top pigeons and fanciers in the SNFC at the moment. Should be out and about fairly soon I wouldn't mind seeing a write up on the Gadsons-a couple of the London cracks

Real class looking birds Walter, with performances to match!!

You could do a lot worst than get pigeons from the Wooff Brothers of New Ollerton and Darlington. I got some latebreds last year from Charlie and Russell and can't fault them, three of them in particular were amongst my best yearlings this season. A few different things through their birds but they can still trace some of the birds right back to their Wildermeersch racing machine Clive 76 and the like. Charlie and Russell are into their 80s now and still topping the fed regularly, often taking the first few positions. Real class fanciers. Les is their younger brother and doesn't race anymore, he was a multiple WDA winner before retiring and from what I'm lead to believe still breeds good birds that are winning well for others. Sure Les and his daughter had an advert in the BHW earlier in the year. May be worth checking out.

I agree. This will be the first Gold Award I know of that's been awarded or applied for without 5 or more section prizes. A mistake has been made. It can either be covered up or rectified. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what is the best option for the officials and members of the club going forward.

Think health would be one the biggest factors as well.Be very hard to keep such a big number of doos from such mixed origins healthy.

Looking at page 14 (rule 10)of this year's book it's easy enough to see how it can be interpreted as a Gold Award winner. However Looking at page 15(rule 14) the line that sticks out is For clarification only those within 1 in 10 in each section will qualify for a gold award. definitely room for error

As well as location I think getting birds to the final race would largely depend on the choice of hotspot races and trainers. Saw the figures for the AV fed young bird entries and the entry for the 7th race at roughly 150 miles, was approximately 91% of the number sent to the 1st race and approx 60% of the number sent to the race which had the highest entry(the 5th race). To get plenty in the final and make the race more attractive going forward race program is important. The race program choice was possibly one of the flaws with the Lamberton OLR,geared more at the SNFC YB national than the OLR final itself.

I'd never have thought it until I seen the results of some fanciers every week with youngsters. Team performances from start to finish, with little variation in the numbers they send. Not sending 80 one week and 12 the next etc. I'm now lead to believe large aviaries go a long way to preventing ybs and speeding up it's recovery. After all it's harder to trap viruses etc. in an aviary than in the loft. Know of fanciers who built huge full length aviaries on their yb lofts and have had minimal yb loses since. These guys know what they are doing otherwise and have class birds but there is maybe something in it.

Interesting reading. Some of the points made make me think back to conversations I've had with one of my old clubmates and closest friends in the sport. He has been around pigeon racing since the year dot haha and done it all. He is of the belief YBS isn't a modern phenomena and that symptoms of it were shown decades ago. Particularly the 'going light' kyleakin and delboy have mentioned. One thing he did say,was the cure was a little different in those days lol. Which may link in with Tony C's theory. Losses are another thing we've spoke about, you hear of some of the old fanciers saying they would get 18rings and be left with 17 flown the program. From his experiences this is perhaps a bit of a selective memory,as he can recall not only good seasons, but years when they were left wi 3 youngyins and races when only 4 youngsters made it home into the whole village on the day etc. Is he pulling ma p * isher or is this the truth?

A few birds named Red Baron. One of the more up to date ones I can think of wasn't of Camphius Janssen origin, but belonged to Davy Barron of Ashington. This guy and his partners are something a bit different, some of the results take a bit of believing. The Red Baron of his was a full brother to his 1st Open UNC Chenoise winner' Bant's Choice. It bred something like 12 individual fed toppers and children and grandchildren of these birds are winning all over the northeast of England. Real super pigeons!! -
Some cracking performances. A wee mention for Colin Bain,Jock and Wull Strang with 2 in and the form loft of Rab Hamilton. Super Flying
-
Great to see John Ellis in tonight. A fancier Scotland has been lucky to have.
-
Super flying, with some fantastic team performances. Well done Dougie

They've not sent novo. Haven't raced all season. Would certainly have been up there again under different circumstanes right enough. goat

strange one eh? There was a fake time from Redcar at around 8 as well, but that was shot down quickly. Folk playin at silly buggers somewhere lol
-
aye I just seen that on another site. Apparently it's been confirmed as a hoax . So they are back to no known doos timed.

spoke to a fancier friend from 15 miles or so north of Newark. He said he can see why the birds up at 9 didn't clear well, but it has improved a lot and from around quarter to 10 has been perfect. Never easy making decisions with so many organizations at the same lib site.
