    Super Moon

Was wondering if anyone has an opinion on what this so called "super moon" will affect, and whether it will be a help or hindrance to the birds navigation home. ?? Do you live by the sea or where you see the tides rising, are they any different from other days?? Noticed the Sun and Moon in the sky together on Friday evening too, will we get a double whammy this week?? Or any other affects you might have noticed. Just curious
  3. Until recently i had both Max and his Daughter Abbie but my brother has the pup now. She was digging ma Mam's garden and she wanted her out so off she went. Canny faw oot way yer mam ower a dug. So Max has the place to himself again, surprisingly he seems happier too
  4. I would have lost a months wage that they were Rotties, but they are beautiful Jack's none the less, and a still want updates on her progress
  5. Hi Lewis. The very first time we got a doo on the shift from Rennes, the hen's last race had been Lancaster (128mls) about 6 weeks earlier. Races are won in the loft not necessarily by hours on the wing. IMO an Ounce of Motivation is worth a Kilo of fitness. Am no saying an Unfit bird motivated will beat a Fitter pigeon, but a Fit pigeon Motivated will beat a Super Fit bird who is not Motivated to get home. Ps. It was 1980, the Dark Cheq hen 78 L 10223 hit a wire on her last toss before going back in '81 and she was probably much better that year than the year she scored. Lessons were learned that day, but in saying that we done it 10 years later again with a Black Ck, 91 L 26262 lost from a toss on the day of basketing for the Fed's longest inland race, pool sheet was written out too with him being our All pools bird.
  6. Aye looks much better for tomorrow, though the forecast i seen made it look possible with a Lib around 11am with the north clearing about 7pm. As much as i hate Hold Overs and am working tomorrow, i'd be happy for them to wait and give them a clear run up the road tomorrow with an early Lib.
  7. Nice healthy litter Stevie, we had a Rotty for 9 years and she was a great dog. Never showed an iota of aggression all her days, mind you ma Da was the gaffer and he kept her placid. atb with your choice, (did you take a Dod or a B**ch?). John. Ps. Keep posting picks of it so we can see it develop.
  8. Clouds are breaking up here in Lanarkshire now, think i'll head off with some trainers to kill a bit of time. The forecast for the Maidstone area disnae look clever for today but tomorrow looks much better. Would say there's no more than a 50/50 chance of getting a race today.
  9. I'm not on the SNFC Committee now Andy, have far too much to do in Lanarkshire at the moment. I would like to become involved again in the not too distant future but for this season and maybe next i simply don't have the time. I support the present officials 100% in this though and to a man they have done their level best with what was an unprecedented situation.
  10. A was lookin for a guy in a Hawaii shirt tae sook in way and let him jump the queue but he wisnae there, well the fetching shirt wisnae so he had tae wait with aw the rest lmao. I'll gee ye preferential the next time Peter
  11. I spoke with Phil Lynch and Andrew Garven yesterday, AFTER the vet had visited the transporters and examined the birds in those baskets. The Vet could not have been more complimentary about the condition of the birds and was satisfied that whatever substance the FEW!! birds ingested had done no harm to them. They were bright eyed, showing no signs of "hanging", vomiting or any other indication that the birds were less than healthy and fit to race. A written report will be sent from this vet and will be available for fanciers to read on the SNFC website, probably by the middle of the week. You can argue all you like about what YOU think should have happened but offering birds back to fanciers who were back in the house was clearly NOT an option. Be assured if i had wanted to withdraw my birds they would have been identified and taken out of the baskets whether sealed or otherwise. Their MY doos and it was MY decision to leave them there, the same option was available to everyone still present but Tam was correct when stating NOT ONE fancier asked for their birds to be removed from these baskets. IMO the SNFC committee have acted in an exemplary fashion in this difficult situation and have taken ALL reasonable and available measures to them to ensure the birds are ok. I have just re read this entire thread and the most significant thing i notice is that those who are most Critical weren't even present, that however is typical of Fanciers everywhere, they ALL know better than the men who have to take decisions and would be more decisive, correct in every decision they made and above the very Criticism they so willingly dish out at every opportunity. Mind you they never put their hands up to take on a position where they could actually have an input to the running of the sport, however that's no surprise either!!!
  12. Very well done Ken, put him away now until next year then get yer mortgage on him putting in an even better performance. atvb with him. John.
  13. Many happy returns Tom, hope you have a great day, a good time out of Maidstone when they get up as a wee prezzie would be nice too. atvb John.
  14. As far as i am aware all birds are registered with the SHU to the one loft??? If so what's the problem?? Ye only need 1 to beat them.
  15. A man with an eye for Detail

    Major Hutton

Ohhhh!! that's another spanner in the works now Showman. Was it him who used to write in to the BHW regularly in the eighties and probably a long time before and after that!! Maybe ALL of these men named had been successful enough to become "names" in our world, but WHICH one had the Stichlebauts???

    Major Hutton

Both the names Claude and Nielston Hutton ring bells with me. George Brownlee used Stichlbauts with Van Hee's crossed. There must be a link to some of this Major guys writings somewhere because he liked his Pen!!
  20. Well i got both ends of the stick. My first 2 over the ets pad went through no probs and are in the baskets, my 3rd doo's ets ring didnae register so was held back until i could arrange for my Benzing clock to be brought over. John Lawrie very very kindly went to the trouble of getting it and brought it over. That doo was not in the earlier baskets so ave 2 well oiled and wan runnin dry I should say at this point, you'd be well advised NOT to criticise this fancier in many circles within the Fed, because he and the gent who helped him have the UTMOST Respect across the federation and indeed a Lot further afield. I will say no more on this matter, except to wish everyone good returns and with some luck maybe a few quid to boot. Cheers John.
  21. I canny decide how many to send, have 15 to choose from for this week, the Gold Cup next week, then Ypres and Tours the next again week. If it looks like a hold over until Monday, as has been suggested to me, i will send 4, 2xCk's and 2xHen's that are paired together, to avoid one or other abandoning ship whilst the other is away. Next week i hope to send another 4 to Alencon then 4 to Ypres and 2 to Tours the following week. If there is anything shouting at me after this round of races they might get sent to Clermont, but will bide my time with that one. Atvb to Pb members sending.
  22. Robert Cormack from Winchburgh? was a terrific distance fancier in SNFC racing, he still breeds birds for friends and charity sales etc, though no longer races. I believe Robert raced good Scottish birds, blended together to create his own family. Sorry i cannot be of more help with a telephone number or the like, but i'm sure if you wanted his phone number i could source it for you. R Telfer & Son have not raced for some years now, perhaps 7 or 8. Initially Douglas Telfer (the Son) kept his stock birds with another fancier i think but i could not tell you whether he still has them or not. Back in the 70's and early 80's the Telfer's had a team of Blacks, known locally as "Telfer's Black Jets" which were almost unbeatable at sprint racing. The birds he owned latterly before taking a sabbatical i have no knowledge of at all, Douglas is a Perfect Gentleman and is still a member of the Federation, i am certain if you caught him when he was not busy he would furnish you with all the info you need about the Families of birds he has housed over the years.......If you would like a direct number for Douglas i can PM it to you. Atvb John.
  23. Cheers guys will get the requests in.
