i have done this procedure a few times Colin . the syringe rarely works well , i found better to "nick" the area . if you need to massage , then do so . also found it best to release the bird back into the loft as the action helps to deflate the area :drinking-coffee-200:

Had similar happen to one of my hens. I used a syringe needle to puncture the crop, then applied slight pressure to deflate. This was yesterday and she appeared OK today, but I will keep an eye on the situation. :)

just a thought m8, I have never done it or had it, but re your syringe needle could you not have the syringe on the needle and suck it out, just a thought,

Tried that as well Archie, but it seemed to give better results by just gently squeezing the crop. :)

Had this problem with 2 cocks colliding mid air a needle is no good

Spoke to Rod Adams regarding the problem

When holding the pigeon with its face looking at you cut it on the right hand side of its sack with a Stanley knife

Problem Solved

Hi Colin

Its just a small cut which will let the air out ,just a wee touch of vasaline over the cut and it will be fine

Have had sometimes a pigeon's crop filled with air.

After reading some on it and remedies, I followed in the main ... just a *expletive removed* and gentle squeeze. You will hear the wheeze as it is coming out. It worked wonders quickly and put to right in no time, and certainly seemingly not any stress regards the bird. I am a Diabetic, and it is no different that than when I *expletive removed* myself and test for my blood count each morning.

Bird is fine now but had to cut his crop several times ,after seeking vetenary advice gave him a respiratory treatment for 2 days and that done the trick . Every day a school day .

If the cock is rousing after you deflate the crop it will just fill up again. Better to put it in a basket for a couple of days to keep it quite and let the damage heal.
