Kyleakin Lofts Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 Geo, as I said, the SNFC subsidised people to bring north, south and outlying fanciers birds to the central marking station before without any problem whatsoever. Its about benefitting yer doos, nothing else. This way, ye wont be travelling at all.Yer doos will be taken for ye. Derek, you are talking about a form of double handling. Pigeons being brought from outlying areas to a central marking area. The only difference would be they would not be in sealed crates whilst being transported to the central marking. I understand your concerns and I understand that one station would give a true National result, but I must concur with George that it is impracticable in todays society. Most organisations are attempting to make themselves easier to send with by increasing the availability of their marking stations. I think one marking station would be the death knell for any race where this was adopted. Due to population spread, it would have to be Central Scotland and this would mean outlying areas would dwindle and disappear. What do the North fanciers think?
dkj Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 this years ancenis race no marking station in the north section, no one came down to bo'ness from there, no pigeons from the the north section went to the race,i would leave well alone with the marking stations as they are,
DJL Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 There are very few from Dundee & Angus go to the gold cup now. And if there was central marking it would be even less. I wouldn't have a problem with it but there are many who would. There is a simple solution to getting a Wednesday marking for the gold cup but it won't happen. Move the marking time forward 4 hours and they could leave Gretna by 7.00 pm. Like I say it won't happen

Double handling? Your taking someones basket and sheet to the marking station for them, whats hard about that? As I said before, it was done before with great success and it benefitted the fanciers, the pigeons and the result. This should be done for the GOLD CUP, the main race of the year.

1967 Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 What is the budget set aside for marking stations who decides what marking stations are used what was the cost of hiring the halls for each section as I've said in previous postsWhy was section B Basketing on a farm A Bowling club and community hall all to be arranged around previous bookings or crops being harvested all with poor to no facilities to cater for the SNFC never mind the clock checking. As ive said before they had a hall booked that's been used by the SHU SNFC,Federations on previous occasions without complaint Adequate car parkHall seats 240Bar facilitiesKitchenToiletsHot cold running waterHall made available free even on event of hold overs or races brought forwardPanniers sprayed and set upMarking tables St up2.5 miles from A683.5 miles from A1Two Chinese and a chip shop within 100 yards Clock setters and helpersAll at a fixed price of £700 Or a average cost of less than 13.1/2p per pigeon per raceThe SNFC made a average of £3.20 per bird going through section B marking station this year and they can't or wont use 13.1/2p per pigeon for . In the SNFC secretary and Jim! Words a perfectly adequate venue This is 2016 not 1916S is not because this venue was on my doorstep I was asked by SNFC to arrange the Booking and there is NO other halls in the Midlothian East Lithuania or Scottish Borders that could or would cater for the SNFC with these facilities available how many venues are jumping forward to cater for pigeon men in this day and age!

The club/marking station gets £40 a race and the convenor £40 a race to buy food and drink for the workers. It may have changed since I was convenor but thats what happened a few years ago. Mike MacPherson Posted December 18, 2016 Report Posted December 18, 2016 birdage entries getting less and less each year, we shouldn't be placing obstacles in front of members, we should be trying to encourage extra birdage, securuty procedures should be adhered to in all marking stations, run properly, problem solved
