apart from, nest felts,t/stalks,straw,hay,paper etc,i read some where ,about coconut fibre, being used,any-body heard of this, :drinking-coffee-200:

Some of the pigeon suppliers sell coconut fibre nest felts although they are a little more expensive.

Yes you can use it, i have used it before very big in the small bird world such as canaries and finches.

spot my man ,this stuff is about 6inchs long,so is it ok to use despite its short length,

used the coconut nest felts once after using the traditional nest felts but found they did not fit into the shape of the bowl as good,so reverted back with the bowls being wrapped in newspaper then felt and good oat straw scattered to build on top of the nest felt if the birds wan't to,know of a good fancier in my own club that used the black nest felts a few years back(thats all he could get) and lost all his squeakers days after hatching so i've never tried them hence why i always get my nest felts at blackpool

was it some thing in the felts, that killed the babies, : :emoticon-0138-thinking:

dunno what it was, could've been something that bound the fibres together i'm sure that year there were a few that were experiencing problems with the black felts so it just wisnae a one off. He bucketed the felts and got the brown coloured ones that he normally used and got his doos back settled on eggs and reared multiple rounds with no problems

never used them but they are the best according to info.any pests won,t go near them.. :santa-dance:

and they dont smell too bad either . just do as Wiley suggested , dry them out first , easy enough. i can highly recommend them.

I used the traditional felts until about 4 years ago then i went to the coconut felts however last year i had allot of eggs out the nest broken/cracked with the nest felts out as well, after days of trying to figure out in my opinion the birds toe nails were catching in the strand in the felt so i went back to traditional and all was good, i never had this problem in prior years so not sure if it was a bad batch.

Excact same thing happened in my loft with coconut nest felts while my birds were all sitting there first round off eggs a 2 or 3 year back !! came home from work to find all of them off their nests and at one end of the section looking terrified then noticed a nest felt on the floor !!
