greenlands Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 I'd never have thought it until I seen the results of some fanciers every week with youngsters. Team performances from start to finish, with little variation in the numbers they send. Not sending 80 one week and 12 the next etc. I'm now lead to believe large aviaries go a long way to preventing ybs and speeding up it's recovery. After all it's harder to trap viruses etc. in an aviary than in the loft. Know of fanciers who built huge full length aviaries on their yb lofts and have had minimal yb loses since. These guys know what they are doing otherwise and have class birds but there is maybe something in it.My thoughts as well mate. :emoticon-0137-clapping:
Roland Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 Not sending 80 one week and 12 the next etc. I'm now lead to believe large aviaries go a long way to preventing ybs and speeding up it's recovery. After all it's harder to trap viruses etc. in an aviary than in the loft. Well said. Also proves that no such thing as 'Over Crowding the more the better. Likewise Fly away... Had two in all the years I've had pigeons. Both recently when restarting with new birds and stock birds ... Not enough in the loft. Unsocial event eh! YBS is a virus, for a start nystatin anti-fungal cures it in a couple of days. I don't, didn't know that leslie24williams49 Icon. Which would suggest a yeast infection, or too much in the system. A little canker is of benefit because it will stop the spread and they need 0.3 in their system. NOW I was told via John Bellerby and Frank Tasker that most ailments now are through a deep rooted Canker. A. used too much in cleaning them out and they hence come back stronger etc. B. the use of the same one. There are over 30 different strains. Only cure was a full dose of Baytril and a Full dose on Rondis for 5 full days... In a conversation with the late great Frank Dooman, he stated that Ron (R.P. Scribe) told him the same. So is a canker passed on fro parents? I don't, and seldom have treated for canker as nature takes care of that. I have - again now a 'Over Crowded loft' so stress free and content, with a soothing effect of lime in drinkers oft times. Food for thought that!
philg50 Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 We or you are talking about YBS now why is there something going about now vaccinate yer doos when you are supposed to !!!!!
C WRIGHT Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 ybs is very easy to control and clear up within 2=3 days the biggest problem is if not caught in time then the gate is open so to speak for a fill range of secondary ilnesses to take hold while the immune system is down this is when losses begin imo not from ybs initiallyI M O lot of problems are caused by over feeding especially when birds arent 100%
billt Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 I am Looking for some fanciers who have NOT had YBS to fill in a small questionnaire Not interested in theories or ideas just answers to my questions If interested please PM me for the questions Ian Hi Ian, My youngsters have never had YBS, I am sure of this but I have not club raced since 1986 when I lived in Hampshire, I now live in Wales and only race one lofts so I'm not sure that my input would be of any use but I'm willing to help if possible, Bill
