yes they can get it but usually a milder form due to less stress on them.

Why is there less stress? Only time I had it was last year before training had started, latebreds are still under stress as they start moult before they are flying strong,

I get it every year in my ybs normally when there is a bit of stress on them I might have one or two too many in the loft at the time which can add to the stress thing but the one or two latebreds which are normally amongst the depleted old bird team are less likely to get it.

never had it. But then I put garden lime in the drinkers 2 -3 times a week. Has a calm and soothing effect. No I.B. E.coli is not ever a problem as nothing wet or damp stays in the lofty for 24 hours.

Thankfully never seen that, does it have the same potency with them?

Old birds handle it much better which makes it much harder to nip in the bud. Loss of appetite, loss of condition, no desire to exercise are the things to look out for. When handling their crop will feel spongy and the pigeon itself feels warmer in the hand than it usually would (akin to running a fever).

If peeps were to look at y/b/s as the equivalent of us having a bout of the flu they wouldn't be far of the mark, Its not as scary neither if you look at it like this. In the main when we go down with a bout of flu we lose our appetite, have no desire to work, feel like crap, run a fever & maybe vomit. Doctors orders would be to rest........... and that goes the same for our pigeons.

A bit of subject I know but some look at y/b/s as a taboo when there's no need to.

Defiantly my feelings Tony....on a personal note ive found after a bout of young bird sickness generally the big form will hit in the young bird loft....now thats a statement that will throw the cat among the pigeons so to speak.

Its not unknown Ryan that after any illness the only way is up in condition and form.If I could only get a wee illness into my birds 6 weeks before a big race then I think it would pay dividends. 2 weeks to get over it and 4 more to bounce into great health and top form :emoticon-0127-lipssealed::)
