After watching many batches of birds racing through Moffat last week some with 100's of birds

Having spoken to a friend he said many batches came back South about an hour later

Also fanciers at marking station tonight commented on this

A lad from town who commutes to London from glasgow each day on the shuttle service took a photo from the window last night as the plane flew over Moffat and just to the north

I counted just on the one photo 70 plus turbines in that small catchment there are many many more

Whilst attending a cousins funeral today at Elvanfoot the vastness covered by the turbines is plain to see

Surely this must also be a major obstacle when birds are flying into a North wind and at there level

Read a report in America how birds were being slaughtered trying to work through them ?

A worked for a company who made the blades in Fife. I was sent to Amsterdam/Germany on many occasions on short break, :emoticon-0167-beer: :emoticon-0167-beer: because we had guys who worked over there installing them. They do make a what I would call it a whishing noise when in motion, they aren't high even when the birds are low. If this does anything to them when flying low, I couldn't tell you, but what I would say, it may be a landmark for the doos at home, and this is only my opinion. :D

dont know much about them but a lot seem to say they do kill lot of birds .

Wind turbines kill around 300,000 birds

they have certainly sprung up in abundance over the last decade. i expect to see a lot more in the near future. when i first heard of them i thought , why not , more UK industry , and green energy too. where we train from , its right next to such a farm . birds dont seem to be bothered by them "can hear Dougies whoosh" as they fly to home. a good landmark , i am sure there are the odd fatality , but hopefully they are few :emoticon-0138-thinking:

looking over the Forth from Leven, on the other side its a line of them on the high ground, surely this means birds would have to be very high to come over them, or will they go round them,

IMO a don't think there is much killed by them even though the countryside is full of them, you know the doos aren't that daft to run into them miles away, even to get blowed into them. ;) whos trying to kid who here. ;)

Can you give me a link to show these figures applying to the UK ?

Many thanks.

There's not a true figure that's for sure, IMO, all made up for the public, statistics are made up for only one reason. ;)

We have wind turbines around us, not a lot, never heard of any birds hitting them, maybe another scam, you will never know will you to be honest. ;)

I know a lad that's a service engineer on them, asked if he ever saw dead birds around and he said no. Took a walk up to a farm with 15 or so, walked round them all and never saw a feather on the ground so don't think they are a real concern. However, when I had to move my loft to a field behind my parents house I lost two doos to my fathers wind turbine. It was just a wee one mounted on his house, spinned a lot faster than the big ones. Fortunately it never did what it was supposed to and is gone now.

Guys,

We know that wind farms aren't the problems we are having with the losses of the birds, lets not turn this into another topic that's going to get removed, ave already said my piece on the forum what is our biggest problem. ;)

And before you say, I haven't had the collar pulled. ;)

Probably wasn't long before you were up Andy, the real scunner turned out it was the nest mate of malkies hen that was cut in two.

maybe not the blades cem ...but the sonic boom they create ...which disrupts the magnetic field...just another pic thrown in :)
