W.D. Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Saw that the Irish and Munster Fed were libbed from Thurso this morning. Just wondered what line they take going down through Scotland? Will they go down the A9 past Perth or dog-leg down the East coast before cutting across the Central Belt to Ayrshire?Whichever way they take it must be a tough bird to face it?!!!
greenbar Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 it will be,brisk west wind, here in the central belt, scotland,
Novice Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 I believe Mauchline is one of their race points so they may cross the water in the South Ayrshire area. Visibility about lunch time over the water was poor but hopefully cleared for them.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 I have been told when we first raced Thurso, we went with the Irish lads and we were hammered. Their pigeons head for a line down the West coast or through the Great Glen. Very tough route. They race Mauchline, then Hamilton prior to jumping into Thurso, but a better line for them would probably be Fraserburgh. We are now conveyed to Thurso by the NRCC, but we are liberated separately. Unlike the NRCC pigeons which cross the water from Wick to Fraserburgh, ours tend to cross the Moray Firth further South and therefore hug the East coast before following the North coast to Fraserburgh.

Very interesting reading . And seriously not being funny but how do you know where they cross ? Or is it a pro guess .
greenbar Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 just like, how does a salmon, find it,s way back to the stream or burn where it was born 4 years earlier,
Kyleakin Lofts Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Very interesting reading . And seriously not being funny but how do you know where they cross ? Or is it a pro guess . Just repeating what I've been told, but no reason to doubt the fanciers telling me. Apparently the NRCC conveyer knows the way their pigeons cross and ours are taking a different route. I don't know how they have verified this, so it may just be a presumption.I've Google Distance calculated the coast route and it sort of ties in with the time taken at NRCC velocities, albeit being a further distance than the race distance our velocities drop quite a lot on this race compared to the others. Might just be they are slower from this race point.
johnwatters Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Your right about mauchline race point Robert they head straight for the coast they literate in the football park which looks straight in front of the Carrick hills

Novice Posted July 13, 2015 Report Posted July 13, 2015 no day birds nt heard if any made it today That's bad. We were in Troon and visibility was very variable all the time we were there. I could well imagine birds trying to cross then being shrouded in mist.
tommy bhoys Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 any updates from this race?no birds in race time one bird made it yesterday in roscrea county tipperary only bird tae home so far
paddymac Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 looks like a lot of birds are being reported around the north of Ireland.
b.massey Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 Am fairly confident a batch of these birds came over my house about lunchtime, around 100 birds racing heading for the side of pentlands and towards biggar they'd have crossed the forth and heading South West as they crossed me
tommy bhoys Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 Many birds were sent to the race?180 birds i think
W.D. Posted July 17, 2015 Author Report Posted July 17, 2015 Have there been any reported? Might give an idea where they ended up?
